❧ By the queen. WHereas the queens most excellent majesty, vpon information heretofore given unto the same, of the great and excessive prices that Wines transported hither out of france, were grown unto, much to the impoueryshing of this her realm, did( for the preventing of the inconvenience that was like to increase & ensue therof) by her majesties Proclamation, bearing date the xv day of july, in the xvii. year of her reign, notify and publish virto such her majesties subiectes, as did and do use the trade of bryngying in those kinds of wines, that they should forbear to bring into any parte of this realm the said wines, unless they might utter & vent them after the rate of ten pounds the tun, with al maner of extraordinary charges, vpon such pain as in the said Proclamation is contained. And although her majesties good and gracious meaning therein, by the indirect and covetous practices of some persons that brought in the said Wines, took not so good effect as her expectation was it should haue done: Yet her majesty and her privy Counsel, finding by good experience, that it is both necessary & profitable to her subiectes, to continue the order of the said former Proclamation, not onely for such wines as shal be hereafter brought into this realm, out of the country aforesaid, but also honourable to her majesty, to cause the same Proclamation to be duly executed for those that haue been brought in since the publishing therof, and remain yes vnsolde by the merchant. Therefore her majesty, with the aduise of her Counsel, straightly willeth, chargeth, and commandeth al her elects, and others, that shall bring those wines into this realm, duly to observe the same rate and price of ten pounds the tun, with all maner of ordinary and extraordinary charges, vpon pain of imprisonment, and of such further penalty and punishment, as by any maner of Statute Lawe, or prerogative, may be indicted upon the transgressors and contemners thereof: Wherein her majesties intention is, and so the publisheth by these presentes, to all her said elects, that no favour, toleration, or qualification, shalbe used unto them, in respect of the great benefit that is like to redound to this realm, by the due observation thereof. And whereas by the said last Proclamation, no order was set down for the restraynyng of the excessyue prices of retailers and Vtterers of the said wines, of late yeeres exacted: Her majesty now by the advice aforesaid, straightly commandeth and chargeth, that none of the said retailers or Vtterers of the said ●ynes, shall sell any wines, already by them bought, and not uttered, or hereafter to be bought and retailed, 〈◇〉 above xvi. d. the Gallon: and so rateably and proportionably for other measures under the same, vpon pain of imprisonment and such further penalties as may be any Statute heretofore in this behalf provided, be imposed or said vpon them, and as they will avoyde her highness indignation and displeasure. given at her majesties palace of Westminster, the xxvii. day of july. 1576. In the xviii. year of her highness most prosperous reign. God save the queen. ❧ Imprinted at London by richard jug, Printer to the queens majesty. Cum privilegio Regiae Maiestatis.
