THe queens most excellent majesty having ordered that acertaine number of Souldiers shall bee forthwith levied and pressed to repair into the low Countreyes, there to be employed in her Highnesse service and pay: The charge of levying, presting, mustering, arming and transporting of which Souldiers, her majesty hath by her special Commission, committed to sir John Norris Knight, and to such Officers, and other persons whom he shall by writing under his hand deputy in this behalf: Doth straightly charge and command, that all such persons, who haue already, or shall receive any prest money of the said sir John Norris, or of such his abovesaid Officers, for this service now committed unto him, and wherein they are to be used, shall duly observe and keep such order as shall be given and limited unto them, for the day and time of their repair to any place, whereunto they shall be by the said sir John Norris, or his abovesaid Officers appointed for their meeting, shipping, and transportation. And if any such person or persons shall to the contrary offend, or directly or indirectly withdraw themselves after the prest money by them received: Her majesty doth hereby notify, that every such person so offending, and the offence duly proved, shall be punished with death by Marshall Lawe. For which purpose, and for the better execution hereof, to the furderance of this her majesties service, Her Highnesse hath been pleased to appoint peter Crisp gentleman, to be the provost Marshall: unto whom, in this service, her majesty doth will and command all Iustices, Maiors, Sheriffes, bailiffs, Constables, headboroughs, and all other her Officers, Ministers and elects, to be aiding, assisting, and furdering, as they and every of them will answer for the contrary at their uttermost perils. given at her majesties Mannor of S. james, the fourth day of October. 1588 In the xxx. year of her majesties reign.
