¶ This is the chronicle of all the kings names ●hat have been in England: and how many years they reigned/ and how many saints & martyrs have been in this land: and showeth the hole sum/ from the making of the world till the coming of Brute: the which is four M.lxxvii. years/ and fro the coming of Brute to the Incarnation of Christ is M.C.xxii. years: & fro the Incarnation to the xxiiii year of king Henry the vi is. M. CCCC.xlvi. years.

THis is the chronicle of all the kings names and how many years they reigned and how many saints & martyrs have been in this land.  

¶ Brute came after the making of the world into the land of albion/ in the time that Ely the priest of the law was in the land of Israel four M.lxxvii. years.  
¶ New Troy (that now is called London) was founded by the making of Brute/ after the making of the world four M.C.xxiiii. year.  
¶ Rome was was founded by Remus & Romulus iiii. M.iiii. C.lxxxiiii. year.  
¶ jesus Christ was conceived by the holy ghost in the maiden Marie on a friday: in the time of king Kamelyn was king of britain: the xu day of March: after the making of the world .v. M. C.lxxxxix. year.  
¶ jesus Christ was borne/ when his mother was xiiii. year old on a sunday/ the xxv day of December/ in the same year: after the making of the world v. M. C.lxxxxix. year.

Next king richard reigned his brother john  
After soon entered into France

The which Edward was never crowned  
Who readeth the chronicle shall see the same

Whom his enemies dread both far & near

Departed this world by divine ordinance.
