A LIST OF THE CLERGY of HAMPSHIRE; OR A Brief Catalogue Of the LEARNED, GRAVE, RELIGIOUS, AND painful MINISTERS OF HAMPSHIRE. Who have been Imprisoned, Plundered, and barbarously used, deprived of all livelihood, for themselves and their Families, in the Late REBELLION; for their Constancy in the Protestant Religion, and their Loyalty to their KING, under that Grand PRESBYIERIAN Tyranny. Gen. 49.7. Cursed be their Wrath for it was fierce, and their Rage for it was cruel; I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel. LONDON, Printed to show the World the stubbornness and Cruelty of the Presbyters. 1662. SIR, I Met here by chance with a seasonable sheet called a Bill of Mortality, being a List of the ejected Orthodox and Loyal Divines in the City of London, under the late Presbyterian Tyranny. And another Catalogue of certain Preachers of the same City, whose mo●ths the law hath lately stopped, which last doth cause a great clamour abroad. Now to undeceive the ignorant seduced People of the Nation, being a great expedient to advance the peace of the Church and State, I cannot but commend his love to both, that hath begun so good a work, as to publish the names of both the ejected parties, that the very People who have been so long misled, may judge which side have most reason to cry out of persecution, whether the former, who were all ejected, and plundered, most sequestered, and many Imprisoned, and Murdered, some by the pretended Sword of Justice, others starved and poisoned, and all this done contrary to Law by Rebells and Traytors; or the latter( who are not a quarter of the number of the former) who, first, for not comforming to the Government of the same Church which gave most of them their Orders, and is established by the Ancient Fundamental Laws of the Land, and secondly, because they may not be permitted to live in a perpetual freedom to alter the Government of Church and State whe●soever they have opportunity: They are only e●ected out of th●se Livings which most of the● enjoyed by Rapine, and permitted to keep those great Riches which they got by preaching Rebellion. Now, Friend, being very sensible what a right understanding this may work in the good People of this Land. I have clubbed my mite towards it and have sent you a perfect List of the sequestered Divines in our County, and if every one that loves their own Posterity and the peace of Sion would do as much, I hope that by Gods blessing the happiness of this Nation would be settled upon a sure and lasting Foundation, which shall be the constant Prayer of The Churches Son and your Servant T.
