RULES FOR THE Genders of NOU●●  

RULE I.  
MEn's proper Names with hic 〈◇〉  
Women's with haec to be decl●●●●  
What Words the Sexes both embrace,  
We in the common Gender place.   

RULE II.  
BE sure that you do always give  
Three Genders to an Adjective  
But yet in a different Fashion,  
As it varieth Termination.   

RULE III.  
AS and his Compounds all 〈…〉 re  
The Masc●●●●● 〈…〉   

RULE IV.  
WInds Names are always Masculines;  
Rivers and Hills scarce Feminines.   

RULE V.  
TOwns, Provinces, Feminines make;  
Ships, Isles, then seldom you'll mistake.   

RULE VI.  
TRees Names we scarcely do decline  
Without the Gender Feminine;  
●●●●pt those that in ster do end,  
whom the Masculine we lend;  
〈◇〉 we do to spinus, dumus.  
●nd likewise say hic or haec rubus;  
Rober and acer must be Neuter,  
As all in um, and siler, suber.   

RULE VII.  
ALL Indeclinables are Neuters,  
●s manna, pondo, fas and others.   

RULE VIII.  
I In the Plural's Masculine,  
AE diphthong is the Feminine,  
A. E. all Neuters we decline.   

RULE IX.  
A And E in the first Declension  
To haec always make pretention;  
Save planeta, and cometa  
Masculines, and Neuter pascha:  
But of the Third Declension all  
In A or E, we Neuters call.   

RULE X.  

O Demands hic; but in do, go,  
If Syllables more than two they show,  
All will have haec, but harpago:   

And haec doth caro, grando guide,  
jo of Verb or Noun derived  
Unio, pugio laid aside.    

RULE XI.  
C, L, and T, are Neuters all,  
E But sal thats hic or hoc, hic sol.   

RULE XII.  
ALL Nouns in um the Neuter hold,  
As pomum, solum, aurum gold.   

RULE XIII.  
MOst Words in N are Masculines,  
Save icon, sindon Feminines,  
And all in men, which hoc declines.  
Inguen, unguen, gluten Glue  
The Neuter likewise do pursue.   

RULE XIV.  
AR and ur also Neuter is,  
Except hic furfur furfuris.   

RULE XV.  
ER takes hic, yet say haec linter,  
Hoc iter, cadaver, spinter;  
And uber, ver, with Fruits and Plants,  
But tuber ne're a Gender wants.   

RULE XVI.  
OR takes hic, except haec arbour,  
Hoc cor, ador, marmor, aequor.   

RULE XVII.  
AS in the first Declension takes  
Hic, in the third haec ne're forsakes:  
Except only hoc vas vasis,  
And hic those that make as antis.   

RULE XVIII.  
ES with the Feminine agrees,  
Dies is doubtful, Neuter aes:  
Masculines are poples, limbs,  
Stipes, paries, pes, foams.  
palms, gurges, trames a Path,  
Cespes, terms hic each hath:  
And most Greekish Nouns, as magnets,  
Tapes, lebes, and sorites.   

RULE XIX.  
IS points out Nouns Feminines,  
Yet those in nis are Masculines:  
As be pulvis, caulis, collis,  
Axis, orbis, callis follis,  
Fustis a Club, lapis, vepris,  
Mensis a Month, saints, torris:  
Add cucumis, polis, sanguis,  
Vectis a Bar, fascis, unguis,  
Aqualis a Water-Pot, and cassis,  
Ensis a Sword, to which join postis.   

RULE XX.  
PLace in the doubtful Gender finis,  
Scrobis, torquis, with them clunis.   

RULE XXI.  
as takes hic, yet say haec cos, does:  
Hoc epos, oris, ossis, as.   

RULE XXII.  
THe Second and Fourth Declension  
In us, the Masculine put on:  
Except some Greekish Feminines,  
With whom sometimes the Latin joins:  
As in haec alvus, colus, acus,  
Manus a Hand, and idus, tribus,  
Porticus, ficus, and humus,  
Vannus, carbasus, and domus:  
Specus, penus, grossus we call,  
And phaselus doubtful withal:  
Neuters make virus, pelagus,  
But you may say hic or hoc vulgus.   

RULE XXIII.  
THe third Declension to each Word  
In us, the Neuter doth afford:  
Save those making utis, udis,  
For say, haec incus incudis:  
To which tellus telluris join  
But pus podis is Masculine.   

RULE XXIV.  
TO S after a Consonant,  
And to laus, fraus haec we do grant.   

RULE XXV.  
MAsculines call dens, chalybs, mons,  
And hydrops, rudens, with fons, pons:  
But scrobs, and adeps doubtful are,  
And to them stirps we may compare.   

RULE XXVI.  
MOst Words in X, are Feminines,  
Save calix, fornix Masculines;  
With spadix, varix, urpix, grex,  
And most dissyllables in ax or ex:  
But fornax, halex do incline  
And forfex, to the Feminine.  
Doubtful we call tradux, silex,  
Likewise cortex, pumex, imbrex,  
And calx, tho' rather Masculines;  
But sandix, onyx Feminines.   

RULE XXVII.  
THe Terminations do direct  
What Gender Epicenes expect:  
Yet say hic phoenix, glis, turtur,  
Hic bombyx, oryx & vulture:  
join here vermis, piscis, lepus,  
Salar, delphis, mugil, & mus.  
The Feminine give to alcyon,  
And to lagopus, aedon.  
Limax, cenchris doubtful we have;  
Anguis, palumbes hic do crave:  
Haec give unto serpens, talpa,  
Grus, perdix, lynx, likewise dama.
