Q. I less suspect your knowledge in the rest, what is Baptism? A. Washing with water in the Name of the Father, Mat. 28.19. Son, and Holy Ghost. Q. What is the Lords Supper? A. It's according to Christ's institution, bread broken and eaten, wine. poured forth and drunk, Mat. 26.26, 27, 28. 1 Cor. 11.24, 25. in remembrance of Christ, whose body was broken for us, and blood shed for the remission of sin. Q. How is this useful to provoke you to newness of life? A. While the evil of sin, and the love of Christ crucified is herein set before my eyes, I am constrained to live to him who died for me. Q. I pray God whensoever you receive this Sacrament, you may. But do all receive this benefit? A. No, 1 Cor. 11.21, etc. they cannot who understand not the ends of Christ's death, nor they who desire not to enjoy them. Q. What if you neglect these means and quench the spirit? A. I show that I undervalue all that Christ hath done and suffered, John 3.18, 19 Heb. 2.3. Chap. 10.29. Chap. 12.25. and provoke God to bring on me a greater measure of his wrath, for this my contempt, than if I had never heard of a Saviour. Q. Do you believe God will bring this wrath on you, if you thus behave yourself? A. Yes, Acts 17.31. 2 Cor. 5.10. I believe God hath appointed a day wherein he will judge the world in righteousness, and render to every man according to what he hath done in the flesh, whether it be good or bad. Q. What shall be the condition of all men after the day of Judgement? A. To them who by patiented continuance in well-doing, Rom. 2.7, 8, 9 Mat. 25.31. etc. seek for glory God will give eternal life, but to them that obey not the truth, and live in unrighteousness, tribulation, and anguish, indignation and wrath, the portion of every soul that doth evil. Q. Seeing we profess to believe these things, what manner of persons ought we to be? A. We ought to live in all holy conversation and godliness, 2 Pet. 3.11, 14.18. being diligent that we may be found of God in peace, without spot, and blameless; growing in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Ghrist: to whom be glory both now and for ever. Amen. THE CREED. I Believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, which was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified dead and buried, he descended into Hell. The third day he arose from the dead. He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth on at the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. The LORDS PRAYER. OUR Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy Name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven, Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen. The X. COMMANDMENTS. GOD spoke all these words, saying, I am the LORD thy God, which hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 1 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 2 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing, that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: For I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the Fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me: and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my Commandments. 3 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless, that taketh his name in vain. 4 Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy: Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God, in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy , nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. 5 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 6 Thou shalt not kill. 7 Thou shalt not commit adultery. 8 Thou shall not steal. 9 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. 10 Thou shalt not cover thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not cover thy neighbours wise, nor his manservant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbours.
