Whether the Seventh, or last day of the week, in the weekly Revolutions, and Returns of it, formerly was, now is, and till Heaven and Earth pass away, will be, the Divine Will, and Pleasure of Jehovah Elohim, to be Observed, and Celebrated, as a weekly Sabbath-day, according to the Prescription of infinite Wisdom; by virtue of his holy Command, as the Duty of all Mankind, to their real and true benefit, and advantage, if observed, and to their deplorable misery if neglected. Isa. 66.2. For all those things hath mine hand made, and all tho●e things that hath been saith the LORD; but to thi● man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. Whether the ten words, commonly called the Moral Law, or D●calogue, formerly were, now are, and until Heaven and Earth do pass away, shall be, a Rule of Obedience, or not? Answ, Isa. 8.20. To the Law and to the Testimony, if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. M●●. 5.17. Think not that I am come to destroy the Law; I am not come to destroy but to fulfil. Ver. 18. For verily I say unto you, till Heaven and Earth pass, one jott or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the Law till all be fulfilled. Ver. 19. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least Commandments, and shall teach men so he shall be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whosoever shall do and teach them the same shall be called great in he Kingdom of Heaven. Luke 16.17. And it is easier for Heaven and Faith to pass, then one tittle of the Law to fail. Jam. 2.8. If ye fulfil the Royal Law according to the Scripture— ye do well. Ver. 10. Whosoever shall keep the whole Law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. Ver. 11. For he that said, do not commit Adultery said also do not kill; Now if thou commit no adultery yet if thou kill thou art become a Transgressor of the Law. Ver. 26. Faith without works is dead. Rom. 3.31. Do we then make voided the Law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the Law. Rom. 7.7. Is the Law sin? God forbid nay, I had not known sin but by th● Law: for I had not known l●st, except the Law had said thou shalt not covet. Ver. 12. Wherefore the Law is holy and the Commandment holy, and just and good, Ver. 14. The Law is spiritual. 16. I consent unto the Law that it is good. 22. For I delight in the Law of God, after the inward man. 25. So then with my mind I myself serve the Law of God. Pro. 28 4. They that forsake the Law praise the wicked: but such as keep the Law, contend with them. Psal, 19.7. The Law of the Lord is perfect. Eccl. 12.13. Let us hear the Conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep his Commandments, for this is the whole Duty of man. 14. Theratning to Neglecters, or upon any other occasion whatsoever. Answ. The Seventh day is the Sabbath of Jehovah, Exod. 20.10. The Seventh-day is the Sabbath of Jehovah Elohiicha. Deut. 5.14. In the Seventh day is a Sabbath of Rest, holy to Jehovah. Exod. 31.15. The Seventh-day which is the Sabbath, Exod. 16.26 Jehovah hath said, tomorrow is the Rest of the holy Sabbath, ver. 23. Today is a Sabbath unto Jehovah, v. 25. The seventh day is a Sabbath of Rest, an holy Convocation, it is the Sabbath of Jehovah in all your dwellings, Lev. 23.3. Whether the seventh or last day of the week be required, and commanded, by Jehovah Elohim, to be observed celebrated, and kept holy, as weekly Sabbath-day, in the Hebdomadal or weekly Revolutions and Returns of it? Answ. See the Answer to the second Question, for Exod. 28 9, 10, 11. Keep the Sabbath day to sanctify it, as Jehovah Elohiicha commanded thee, Deut. 5.12, 13, 14. The Seventh-day is the Sabbath of Jehovah Elohiicha, in it thou shalt not do any work, ver. 14. Ye shall keep the Sabbath therefore, for it is holy unto, you, Exod. 31.14. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their Generations for a perpetual Covenant, it is a Sign between me and the children of Israel for ever, for in six days Jehovah made Heaven and Earth and on the seventh day he restend and was refreshed. Exod. 31.16, 17. On the seventh day in ear-ring time and in Harvest thou shalt rest. Exod. 34 21. And it came to pass, that there went ou● some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none; And Jehovah said, How long do ye refuse to keep my Commandments, and my Laws? See for that Jehovah bath given the Sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days, abide ye every man in his place let no man go out of his place on the seventh day, Exod. 16, 27, 28, 29. And Moses said, these are the words that Jehovah hath commanded that ye should do them. On the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a Sabbath of Rest to Jehovah, Exod. 35.1, 2. The seventh day is a Sabbath of Rest ye shall do no work therein, Levlt. 23.3. Jehovah Elohiicha commanded thee to keep the Sabbath day, Deut. 5 15. Ye shall keep the Sabbath therefore, for it is holy unto you: every one that ●●efileth it shall surely be put to death, 〈◇〉. 31.14. On the seventh day thou shalt rest, Exod. 23.12. Thus saith Jehovah, Hallow the Sabbath-day, Jer. 7.21, 22. And the Women which came with him from Galilee, &c. restend the Sabbath-day according to the Commandment, Lake 23.55, 56. Quest. 5. Whether the Reasons produced for the Observation of the seventh or last day of the we●● front the Creation of the world, as a weekly Sabbath day, do as firmly and naturally oblige and require the observation of it from all Gentit● Believers, as from the Israelitish Nation. Answ. And on the seventh-day Elohim had ended his work which he had made, and he restend on the seventh-day from all his work which he had made. And Elohim blessed the seventh day and san●●fied it because that in it he had restend from 〈◇〉 his work, which Elohim created and 〈◇〉 de, Gen. 2.2, 3. For in six days Jehovah made Heaven and ●●rth, the Sea and all that in them is, and rest 〈◇〉 the seventh-day, wherefore Jehovah bles●●d the Sabbath-day and hallowed it, Exod. ●● 11. 〈◇〉 is a sign between me and the children of 〈◇〉 for ever; for in six days Jehovah made ●●●aven and Earth, and on the seventh day he ●●sted, and was refreshed Exod 31.17. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh 〈◇〉 in this wise and God did rest the seventh 〈◇〉 from all his works. Heb. 4.4. Quest. 6. Whether the seventh or last day of the week; were given and appointed, blessed and sanctified, to be a weekly Sabbath-day, from the Creation;( required and commanded by Jehovah Elohim, on Mount S●nai● audibly spoken, by his Finger engraven, and for the benefit of 〈◇〉 in an Ark of Shirtim word preserv●d●) Whether this be for all people universally extended, o● for the Israelites only? is inquired? Answ. Remember the Sabbath-day to keep it holy, the seventh day is the Sabbath, in it thou shalt not do an work, not thy son, nor thy daughtet thy man-servant nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates, Exod. 28 10. In it thou shalt not do any work, thou nor thy on, nor thy daughter, not thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thine ox, not thin● A● nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates, that thy man servant and thy maid servant may rest 2; well a tho, 〈◇〉 5.14. 〈…〉 that doth this, and the son of A●am that laveth hold on it; that keepeth th● Sabbath 〈…〉 56.2. Also the sons of the stranger that join themselves to Jehovah, to and his servants, EVERY ONE that keepeth the Sabbath from polluting it, ver. 6. Even them will I bring to my holy mountain and make them joyful in my House of Prayer— for min● House shall be called an Horse of Prayer for all people, ver. 7. And it shall come to pass, that from one Sabbath to another shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith Jehovah, Isa. 66.23. The Sabbath was made for man, Mark 2.27, Gen. 2.1, 2, 3. Exod. 16. Quest. 7. What are the Encouraging Promises, and inducing Rewards which the seventh any Sabbath observers may lay claim to; and act saith in, as a token from the Lord of his Divine Pleasure and Complacency in the due Observationana Celebration of the seventh-day Sabbath; to their benefit and delight? Answ. Blessed is the man that doth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it, that keepeth the Sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hands from doing any evil, Isa. 50. ●. 〈…〉 away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight the holy, fo Jehovah, honourable and shall honour him, not doing thin● own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure. nor speaking thine own word Isa. 58.13. Then shalt thou delight thyself in Jehovah, and I will cause th●e to ●ide upon the high places of the Earth and 〈…〉 with the heritage of 〈…〉 for the Mouth of Jehovah hath 〈…〉 14 For thus saith Jehovah ●nto the Enn●chs that keep my Sabbaths Isa 50 4. Even unto th●m will I 〈…〉 house, and within my 〈◇〉, a 〈…〉 then of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be out off 〈◇〉. 6. Also the sons of the 〈◇〉 that join themselve to Jehovah to serve him, Every one that keepeth the Sabbath-day from Polluting it v. 0. Even them will I bring to my holy Mountain, and make them joyful in my house of Prayer; their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine alter, ver. 7. See for that Jehovah hath given you the Sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two dayes, Exod. 16.29. And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, ver. 22. And they laid it up till the Morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein, ver. 24. And God blessed the seventh-day and sanstified it, Gen. 2.3. Exod 20.11. It is a sign between me and you,— that ye may know that I am Jehovah that doth sanctify you, Exod. 31.13. And it shall come to pass, if ye diligently harken unto me, saith Jehovah, to bring in no burden through the Gates of this City on the Sabbath-day, but hallow the Sabbath-day to do no work therein. The shall there enter into the gates of this City, Kings, and Princes, sitting upon the Throne of David, riding in Chariots and on Horses, they and their Princes, the men of Judah and the Inhabitants of Jerusalem, and this City shall remain for ever. And they shall come from the Cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and from the Land of Benjamin, and from the Plain and from the Mountains, and from the South, bringing burnt-offerings and sacrifices, and Meat-offerings, and Incense, 〈◇〉 bringing Sacrifices of Praise unto the Hou● of Jehovah, Jer. 17.24 25, 26. The Sabbath was made for man, and 〈◇〉 man for the Sabbath, Mark 2.27. Quest. 8. What threatenings of condign Punishment hath the Lord, for the terro● and destruction of the obstinate, and rebellious, denounced against, and commanded to be inflicted on, and execute up on, the wilfully disobedient, and refractory Profaners; and Polluters o● the seventh or last day of the week, in th● weekly Revolutions and Returns of it, a● a Proclamation of his Divine wrath an● Displeasure therewith? Answ. The seventh-day is the Sabbath,— whosoever doth any work in the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death, Exod 31.15. On the seventh day shall be a Sabbath, who soever doth work therein shall be put t● death, Exod. 35.2. Ye shall keep the Sabbath therefore, ●o it is holy unto you; Everyone that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doth any work therein that soul shall be cut off from amongst his people, Exod. 31.14. And them that escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon, until the Land had enjoyed her Sabbaths; for as long as she lay desolate, she kept Sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years, 2 Chron. 36.20, 21. Did not your Fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon This City? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel, by profaning the Sabbath Nehem. 13.18. But if ye will not harken unto me, to 〈◇〉 the Sabbath-day and not to bear a burden,— then will I kindle a fire in the Gates thereof, and it shall devour the Palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched. Jer. 17.27. Hear this ye that swallow up the needy, saying when will the New Moon be gone, &c. And the Sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, Amos 8.4, 5. Behold the days come saith the Lord Jehovah, that I will sand a famine in the Land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of Jehovah, ver. 11. And they shall wander from sea to sea, 〈◇〉 from the North even to the East they 〈◇〉 run to and fro to seek the Word of Jehovah and shall not find it, ver. 12, 13. And they found a man that gathered stick● upon the Sabbath-day &c. Numb. 15.32, 33, 34. And Jehovah said unto Moses, the man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall ston him with stones without the camp. ver. 35. Quest. 9. Whether the practise of the Lords Magistrates and people, as an evidence of the contrariety of their Natures to the workers of iniquity; in an endeavour after the utter abolition, and extirpation of Malefactors, hath been exerted and put forth in a zealous performance, and execution of the penal Law of God, upon profaners of the seventh, or last day of the week as a weekly Sabbath-day? Answ. And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the Sabbath-day. And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all th●… congregation. And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done unto him, And Jehovah said unto Moses, the man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall ston him with stones without the camp. And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died as Jehovah commanded Moses, Numb. 15.32 33, 35, 36. Secondly, the Magistrates practise. And if the people of the Land bring ware, or any Victuals on the Sabbath-day to sell, that we would not buy it of them on the Sabbath, Nehem. 10.31. In those days saw I in Judah some treading Wine-Presses on the Sabbath, and bringing in Sheaves, and leading Asses, as also Wine, Grapes, and Figs, and all manner of burden, which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath-day; And I testified against them in the day wherein they sold Victuals, Jer. 13.15. There dwelled men of T●r●, also-which brought Fish, and all manner of Ware, and sold on the Sabbath unto the children of Judah. and in Jerusalem, ver. 16. Then I contended with the Nobles of Judah, and said unto them, that evil thing is this, that ye do and profane the Sabbath-day? ver. 17. Did not your Fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us. and upon this City? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel, by profaning the Sabbath, ver. 18. see v. 19. So the Merchants, and Sellers of all kind of ware, lodged without Jerusalem once or twice, ver. 20. Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if you do so again, I will lay hands on you; from that time forth came they no more on the Sabbath, ver. 21, 22. Qu. 10. Hath the seventh or last day of the week, ●een observed as a weekly Sabbath day, in the weekly Revolutions, and Returns of it, by the Lords People, under the Old Testament-Administration of Grace; by Christ himself, whose stop we are to follow, by his Disciples, before his Ascension, and by his Apostle and Gentile-Believers after his Ascension, under the New-Testament-dispensation of Grace, or not? So the people restend on the seventh-day, &c. Exod. 16.30. Moses of old time hath in every City them ●at preach him, being red in the Synagogue, ●ery Sabbath-day, Acts 15.21. And he( viz. Jesus) came to Nazareth, ●here and had been brought up, and as his cu●om was, he went into the Synagogue on the ●●bbath-day, and stood up for to red, Luke ●. 10. And he was teaching in one of the Synagogues on the Sabbath, Luke 13.10. And the Women-which came with him from Galilee, &c. Returned, and prepared spices, and ointments, and restend the Sabbath-day according to the Commandment, Luke 23.55, 56. But when they departed from Per●●, they ●ame to Anti●ch in Pisi●li● and went into the Synagogue on the Sabbath-day, and 〈◇〉 down. And after the reading of the Law and the Prophers, &c. Then Paul stood up and said, ye that sea God give audience, Acts 13.14, 15, 16. And when the Jews were gone out of th● Synagogue the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the nex● Sabbath ver. 42. The Proph●t are red every Sabbath day, ver. 27. And on the Sabbath we went out of the city by the River 〈◇〉, where Prayer was wont to be made, and we spake to the Women which resorted thither. Acts 16.13. And he reasoned in the Synagogue ery Sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and th● Greeks, Acts 18 4. Quest. 11. Whether the Lord hath been pleased to invest and aedora the seventh or last day of the week, as a weekly Sabbath-day, with any relative, concreated blessing: or Holiness, as also with any Titles of honour and pre-eminency. Answ. And Elohim blessed the seventh day and sanctifi●d it, because that in it he had restend from all his work, which Elohim created and made. Gen. 2.3. And restend the seventh day, wherefore Jehovah blessed the Sabbath-day and hallowed it, Exod. 20.11. Tomorrow is the Rest of the Holy Sabbath, Exod. 16.23. It is holy unto 〈◇〉, Exod. 31.14. The seventh-day is holiness to Jehovah ver. 15. The seventh day is— an holy Convocation, Lev. 23.3. An holy Convocation, ver. 8. Thy holy Sabbath, Nehem. 9.14. The Sabbath— my holy day, the holy of Jehovah Isa. 58.3. The seventh day shall be Holiness, Exod. 35.2 A Sabbath of Rest to Jehovah, Exod. ●5. 2. The seventh day is the Sabbath of Jehovah Elohiicha, Exod. 20.10. If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath from doing thy pleasure on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight the holy of Jehovah, honourable, and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, not speaking thine own words, Isa. 58.13. The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath, Mat. 12.8. Mark 2.28 Luk. 6 5. Quest. 12. What works of Wonder, 〈◇〉 miraculous Transactions hath the Lor● Jesus wrought and performed upon 〈◇〉 seventh or Sabbath-day, as a declaratin of his divine estimation of that 〈◇〉 beyond others. Answ. Jesus went on the Sabbath-da● through the corn &c. Mat. 12.1. There was a man which had his hand w●thered, Luke 6.6 Mat. 12.10. Then said he to the man, stretch forth thi● hand and he stretched it forth, and it was restored whole like as the other, Mat. 12.1 Luke 6.8. And he was teaching in one of the Synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman which ha● a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed down together, and cloud in no wise lift up her self. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made strait and glorified 〈…〉 L●ke 13.10 11, 12.13. And on the Sabbath-day. There was a man before him which had the 〈…〉.
