A Proclamation For trial of the KING. Proclaimed By sound of Trumpets and Drums, in Westminster Hall, at the Exchange, and in Cheapside. With the Proceedings of the High Court of Justice against him. ALSO An ACT of the House of Commons for further prosecution against the KING: Die Martis 9 Januar. 1648. ordered by the Commons assembled in Parliament, that the same Proclamation that was made this morning, touching the trial of the King, be made at the Exchange, and in Cheapside in London. At the High Court of Justice, appointed by an Act of the House of Commons for trial of Charles Stuart king of England, met this day in the Painted Chamber near the Lords House at Westminster. AN Act of the House of Commons was brought before this High Court of Justice for trial of Charles Stuart King of England, by Authority whereof they met. And first called over the names of the Members of this High Court, which are in number one hundred and fifty. There being at this time present nigh one hundred of them. After which the aforesaid Act of the House of Commons in Parliament Assembled was red, giving power to the said Committee for present trial of the said Charles Stuart King of England, And to adjudge him according to Law, and this to be finished within one months space. But as for the time, and place, they are to adjourn from time to time as they shall see cause. After the Commissioners were called, and the Commission red. This high Court proceeded to election of Officers, and choose them 4 Lawyers to bee assistants, 2 Clerks, 4 Messengers to sand into the Country, and two Messengers to wait on them where they shall sit from time to time. And it was Ordered that all those of this high Court of justice who are in Countries shall be forthwith sent for, to join with them, And the Messengers to bring the positive answers of each of them. The Commissioners are 150 some Members of the House of Commons, Some Officers of the Army( viz.) the Lord Gen. and chief of his Officers, some Citizens of London, and some from all the counties of England. Councellors assistant to this Court are 4. viz. Dr. Dorislow, Mr. steel, Mr. Ash. Mr. cook. Clerks chosen by the court are 2. viz. Mr. Philps, and Mr. Graves. Messengers to attend the court are 6 whereof 4 are for sending forth abroad, and 2 to attend the sitting of the court. And they are. Mr. Walford, Mr. King, Mr. Coomes, Mr. pain, Mr. powel, Mr. Hull. The court agreed upon a Proclamation to be published for the kingdom to take notice of the trial of the King, concerning which they sent to sergeant Denby sergeant at Arms for publication therof accordingly as followeth. The copy of a Commission from the high Court of Justice to sergeant Denby sergeant at arms for trial of the King. WEE the Commissioners whose names are hereunto subscribed, do hereby authorize and appoint Edmond Denby sergeant at arms to cause this to be proclaimed, according to the tenor therof, and to make due return of the same with a precept to the said Court at the time and place therein mentioned, Signed by 46. of the Commissioners of the Court in the name of all the rest. By the Commissioners of the High Court of Justice for the trial of the King, by Authority of an Act of the House of Commons. A PROCLAMATION, BY virtue of an Act of the Commons of England assembled in Parliament, for erecting of an High Court of Justice, for the trying and judging of Charles Stuart King of England. We whose Names are hereunder written, being Commissioners( amongst others) nominated in the said Act, do hereby appoint, That the High Court of Justice mentioned in the said Act shall be holden in the Painted Chamber in the palace of Westminster, on Wednesday the tenth day of this instant january, by one of the clock in the afternoon, and this we appoint to be notified by public proclaiming hereof in the great Hall at Westminster to morrow being the 9. day of this instant january, betwixt the oours of 9 and 11 in the forenoon; In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands seals the 8. day of january, An. Dom. 1648. Signed and sealed by 46. of the Commissioners in the name of the whole Court. Die Martis january 9. 1648. This day according to the Commission aforesaid, sergeant Dendy caused the aforesaid Proclamation to be made according to his Instructions from the Court, which was done in this manner. sergeant Dendy rid into Westminster Hall with the Mace belonging to the House of Commons on his shoulder, and some Officers attending him all bare: And the guard of Horse and Foot being in both the palaces 6. Trumpeters were sent to attend him. The Names of the Trumpeters Mr. Bre● the Lord Generals Trumpeter, and of the Lieut. Gen. Regiment Mr. Thomas Williams of Capt. Blackwels Troop; and Mr. Henry Bulkley, and Mr Oliver Holms belonging to Capt. Ainrers troop, and Mr Robert Hadrey, and Mr John Reynolds of Capt. Canons Troop of colonel Whalies Regiment. These 6 Trumpeters sounded on horseback in the middle of Westminster hall, and the mean time the Drums did beat in the palace yard, after which Proclamation was made. The aforesaid Proclamation was red by Mr. King one of the Messengers of the High Court of Iustice. After public Proclamation made in Westminster hall, The House of Commons ordered that the like should be done in the city of London, according to an order of the House here unto annexed, which accordingly was done in this manner. First sergeant Dendy rid with his attendance And a Troope of Horse before him, with the Mace of the House of Commons, on his shoulder, and proclaimed it in Cornwall against the Exchange, and afterwards in the middle of cheap side in London. It was red and published by Lieutenant Chellington and Mr. King the aforesaid messenger, in the presence and by order of sergeant Denby, in cornwall before the Exchange, and by Mr. Chellington, in the presence and by the command of the said sergeant Dendy in cheap side according to the order of the House of Commons, herewith annexed. The aforesaid painted Chamber which is appointed for the place for the high Court of Justice to sit, is nere unto the House where the Lords sit. Here followeth an Act Ordered by the House of Commons for publishing the aforesaid Proclamation in London at the several places aforesaid. An Act of the Commons of England in Parliament assembled for publishing a Proclamation in London for the trial of the KING. Die Martis 9 Janua. 1648. ORdered by the Commons assembled in Parliament, That the same Proclamation that was made this morning in Westminster Hall touching the trial of the King, bee made at the Old Exchange, and in Cheapside, forthwith, and in the same manner. And that sergeant Denby, the sergeant at arms do proclaim the same accordingly: And that the Guard that lieth in Pauls do see the same done. Hen. Scobell clear. Parl. Dom. come. FINIS.
