portrait of King Charles I of England A HUE and CRY AFTER THE High Court of Injustice. OR, The Arraignment and Sentence of those Blood-thirsty and unparalleled Traitors, who contrary to all Law and Justice, Judged and condemned the late Kings Majesty, CHARLES the First, of glorious Memory to Death; who by the Divine hand of Gods Justice, which always pursues and overtakes Blood-thirsty Traitots to their ruin and Destruction, are now to be made public Examples of Justice, for that horrid Act which is now by both Houses of Parliament declared to be HORRID MURDER. With a perfect List of all their Names, whose Estates are to be Sequestered for the same, for the use of his Majesty. Whoso sheddeth mans Blood, by man shall his Blood be shed. Psal. 55.23. Bloody, and deceitful men shall not live out half their dayes, Numb. 35.32. Ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a Murderer which is guilty of Death, but he shall surely be put to death. London, Printed for John Andrews, at the White Lion near pie-corner. 1660. May 22 A Hue and Cry After The High Court of Injustice. Sam. 26.8, 9. Abishai said to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand, therefore let me smite him with the spear. And David said, Destroy him not; for who can stretch forth his hand against the Lords Anointed, and be guiltless. THe divine hand of Gods Justice which in all Ages pursues and overtakes blood-thirsty Traytors and Murtherers, having now by a most miraculous way of Providence restored Englands old Liberties by a free and full Parliament, consisting of King, Lords, and Commons, the best and most flourishing Government in the world, from the hands of bloody Tyrants and Traytors, who lately tyrannized over us even almost to the utter ruin and destruction of all the three Nations, it pleased the Parliament as their bound duty to God, their lawful King, and the three Kingdoms, in the first place to restore our onely lawful Sovereign Lord and King, Charles the Second, by the Grace of God King of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland, to his just Rights and Dignities. In the next place they begin to make inquisition for blood, innocent Blood, Royal Blood; thereupon they inquire into, and examine the nature and manner of the late Kings death, and upon due consideration of the whole matter, they unanimously resolve the said Kings Death to be horrid murder, and the persons who sate as Judges in that High Court of high Injustice, to be Rebels and traitors: Whereupon they begin to consider how the Kingdom may be freed from the guilt of that horrid blood-shed and murder, they unanimously resolve some of the chief Actors and Conspirators to be made public examples of Justice for the said harsh injustice and murder; whereupon the persons concerned in that horrid Fact being conscious of their own guilt, endeavour to fly beyond the seas, thereby thinking to escape that Justice and vengeance which its impossible to escape; for God to whom vengeance belong, and who will repay it, will always sooner or later cause all such Rebels and Traytors to receive the reward of their Treason. Several of those persons being since seized upon, it is likewise ordered to seize on their Estates, Goods, and Lands of all the rest who are fled; in pursuance of which Order, several of their Estates and Gods are already seized upon, especially the Goods of that grand Rebel, and audacious Traitor John Bradshaw, President to the said Court of Injustice; whose impudence it was to pass that cursed and hard Sentence against the Kings Majesty, to the extreme grief of all good people, the scandal of the Protestant Reformed Religion, the wonder and amazement of all the world. The manner of the Proceeding of the High Court of High Injustice against the Kings Majesty. The Kings Majesty being brought before this High Court of High Injustice, a pretended charge of high Treason, of which these pretended Judges were deeply guilty of, was red against the Kings Majesty, by Mr. Broughton their Clerk; so the Kings Majesty was impudently required by Bradshaw to give his answer: the Kings Majesty resolving not to own such a horrid Court, questioned their Authority, and refused to answer. Having been three times brought before them, his Majesty was at last wickedly sentenced to die by these cursed Traitors, and accordingly he was Beheaded before his own Palace, January 30. 1648. to the great grief of all his loving Subjects. The Warrants for his Majesties Execution was subscribed by the Hands and Seals of these persons following whose Goods and Estates are now to be confiscated for the use of his Majesty Charles the Second, by the Grace of God, King of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland. Ordered by the Lords and Commons in Parliament, That all those persons following, who sate in Judgement upon the late Kings Majesty, Charles the First, of glorious memory, when Sentence of Death was pronounced against his Majesty, all their Estates, both real and personal, of all and every of them who are fled, be forthwith seized and secured.
