THe humble Petition and grateful Acknowledgement of the Inhabitants of the Town of Taunton in the County of Somerset, in approbation of the late Votes passed touching the King, was this day red; and it is Ordered, That the Thanks of this House be returned to the Petitioners for their very good Affections expressed to the Parliament: It is further Ordered, That the said Petition be printed.

The humble PETITION AND Grateful Acknowledgement OF The Town of TAUNTON in the County of Somerset; To be in all humility presented, To the honourable House of COMMONS assembled in Parliament.  
AS we cannot but with deepest Thankfulness remember the eminent care of this High and honourable Court, in sending opportune and timely succour to us, when we were even ready to be made a prey to all the Miseries that human Cruelty could device to inflict: So( having lately seen the Votes of both Houses of Parliament, whereby they manifest their Resolutions to make no more Addresses nor Applications to the King) We cannot but in all humility Declare to this honourable Assembly, and to all the World, That we are fully satisfied in our judgements and Consciences, of the Necessity and Iustice of such a course; the King having utterly and finally refused, to give His Assent to those Propositions, which( as we humbly apprehended) are absolutely Necessary for the Establishment of true Religion and Peace in this distracted and almost destroyed Kingdom; Hoping that your Honors will now go on effectually and vigorously to prosecute the Settlement of Religion among us in Truth, according to the word of God( which is the dearest thing to us;) and next to that, the Kingdom in Peace, according to the Rights and Immunities thereof. And we do all unanimously profess, That as we have not heretofore been the most backward in the Kingdom, to adhere to the Parliament( according to our Duties) in its lowest condition, and to oppose the Enemies of our Religion and Peace, with the extremest hazard of our Lives and Fortunes; So we shall not account the small remainder of our Estates and Blood dear, for the promoting of those blessed ends, & the asserting of that Cause, which we by Solemn Vow have undertaken, and believe, no Danger in the world may cause us to desert.
