THe earl of Lindsey having ever since the beginning of this Parliament, been very active in his plots and designs against the Parliament, and so consequently against the peace of the Kingdom; first, in his practices against Hull and Sir John Hothon. Secondly, against the earl of Warwick using many many malignant endeavours to seduce the people of the County of York to make breach of their allegiance to his Majesty in persuading them to take arms against his Majesty underpretence of standing for him. Thirdly, in counseling his Majesty to engage himself in a war against his Parliament, to the utter confusion of the peace of the Kingdom and the ruin, and almost inevitable destruction of his Majesty and royal posterity. Likewise in causing them to make breach of their duties to the Parliament to whom they had resigned al power & to whom they had promised to stand close, animating them on, several Petitions, promising them to hazard their lives and fortunes in their defence, that by the seducement of the said earl they are misled, and have taken arms( as is feared) to be employed against the Parliament. And as in Yorshire, so he still persists in prosecution of his dishonourable practices for in Norfolk, he by his ministers hath endeavoured to raise a party in several eminent places of the said County as Norwich, Atleborrow, Yarmouth, lin, Thetford, Downam and many other places in the said County. Which ministers of his promised great reward to those that would be assistant to their design, but the inhabitants of the said County that were well affencted knowing the great Detriment that such actions might bee to the proceedings of Parliament, and the peace of the kingdom they thought it best to take a speedy course to prevent such a growing danger wherefore they called the aforesaid Officers to question, demanding whether they had Authority from the Parliament to do what they had done: who endeavoured to put them off with faire excuses and the like, from whence they gathered that their design was counterfeit and not warrantable. Wherefore they seized on them carried them before the mayor, who after their examination( which was that they was impeached by the earl of Lindsey) they were committed to custody, and a Messenger dispatched to the parliament, to certify of their proceedings. Which the Lords and Commons taking into consideration, caused them to be brought before them, who having examined them sent them to the Gatehouse, where they remain till that they shall have time to pass a censure upon them suiting their desert; likewise the Gentry and Commonalty of norfolk are resolved to stand firm for the Parliament, against the malignant party of this kingdom, the Kings safety, the Parliaments Security and kingdoms future Peace, and blessed prosperity, and of the kingdom depending on the proceedings of this Parliament. Also the blessed enjoyment of the true Protestant Religion, and all that is near or dear unto us, our wives, children, the inheritance of our Fore-fathers being all destined to utter ruin, and destruction by the malignant party of this kingdom, who do daily endeavour to confounded this Parliament, and by that means to take away all possibility of our ever redeeming ourselves from living under an arbitrary government. Also the Lords and Commons do declare that all their endeavours tend to the preversion of the sa●d designs, and to establish a peaceable and quiet government in this kingdom, a true settlement of Religion, and the mainteanance of the ancient laws and liberties of the Subject. news being brought to the High Court of Parliament, that there was great store of Ammunition at Cobham-Hall in Kent for some private designs, they appointed sergeant mayor Skipton to elect a sufficient Guard of musketeers and Horse, and to go to see whether those informations given were true, who being arrived there, found five wagons of Ammunition, of all sorts, as Pikes, muskets Pettronells, and one waggon of money, which they ceised on the keeper of Cobham▪ Hall, fled to a Town three miles off, but they pursued Him and took him whom they have brought up to London to bee examined, what design these. arms were provided for.
