Courteous Reader,  
THE work and business of this small Treatise, is to reduce the Warrants, and recognisances, Process, Inquisitions, and other Proceedings, made, and taken by, and before His Majestie's Justices of the Peace, to their ancient style, and Language: So that such Clerks, as were not acquainted with matters of that nature, in the time of the late King, may be fully instructed touching the true manner, and form of all sorts of such Warrants, and Instruments, as they shall have occasion to make use of in that employment.

It is an offence against the security of the King, and Kingdom.

A man robbed of Goods in one County, and the fellow taken with the Goods in another, he may be Indicted, where he is taken.  
Informations against Felons ought to be upon Oath, and no man committed, but for apparent cause.  
Hue and Cry ought to be made from Town to Town, and County to County, with Foot, and Horse, and every one in the Hue and Cry may apprehended the fellow, done by the whole Town.  
Watch is to be kept from Ascension-day till Michaelmass, from Sun-setting to Sun-rising. Dalt. 171.  
If a man be arrested for Felony, his Goods shall not be seized, until Attainder, or Conviction, upon pain to forfeit the double value to the Party grieved; for the party grieved may sell them bona fide, for his maintenance in Prison before conviction. 1 R. 3. cap. 3.  
Justices of the Peace cannot try any Felons, but such, as stand Indicted before themselves, or some other Justices of the Peace, or the Sheriff in his Turn, and where the trial may be onely by the County, where they are Justices.

None are to keep Inmates in Cottages, except by order from the Justices, and leave of the Lord of the Wast; and the Inmates to be maintained at the charge of the Town, Hundred, or County.

7. High-ways.  
Every one, having a Plough-land in Tillage, or Pasture, shall find a Cart six days with Tools, and two men; or forfeit ten Shillings per diem.  
Every householder, or Cottager( not being an hired Servant) is to work six days, or forfeit twelve pence per diem.  
Every person, that is 5. p. Goods, or 40. s. Lands, in the Subsidy-Books, shall find two men.  
The owners of Grounds, next the Highways, are to keep their Ditches, and Fences, and lop their Trees, and to cut down the Trees, and Bushes in the Highways; or forfeit 10. s.  
They are also to remove the Earth cast out of their Ditches, within six moneths▪ or they forfeit 12. d. the Rod. 3 M. 8. 5 Eliz. 13. 29 Eliz. 5.    


A COMMON WARRANT TO Answer to such matters as shall be objected.  
To all Constables, Headboroughs, and other His Majestie's Offic●rs, to whom the Execution hereof doth, or may concern.  
THese are to will, and require you, and in His Majestie's Name straitly to charge, and command you, and every of you, presently, upon sight hereof, to apprehended, and bring before me, or some other of His Majestie's Justices of the Peace, for this County, the Body of A. B. of whom C. D. the Bearer hereof, will give you particular Notice; To Answer unto all such matters, as, on the part of His said majesty shall be objected against him, upon the complaint of the said C. D. And for so doing, this shall be your Warrant.  
Dated the 10th. Day of October in the 12th. Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord King Charles the Second, &c. Annoque Domini 1660.   

A Mittimus to the House of Correction.  
mid.  
WHereas O. P. was brought before me for the Felonious taking and stealing of One Silver Spoon, contrary to His Majestie's Laws; These are to will, and require you, and in His Majestie's name straitly to charge, and Command you, to receive the said O. P. into your Custody, and him safely keep, until it shall be otherwise ordered by Order of the Sessions, and, during all the time, he shall continue with you, that you hold him to work, and labour; yielding him for his maintenance onely so much, as he shall deserve for his Labour, and work. And hereof fail not, &c.   

A Warrant for levying of 20s. a piece of certain Unlicensed Alehouse-Keepers, and further to proceed according to Law.  
Suff. ss.  
FOrasmuch as the Parties hereunder name of your Town do stand lawfully convicted before us, for Alehouse-Keepers without Licence, and have thereby forfeited the sum of 20s. apiece to the use of the poor of your said Town, according to the Statute, in that Case made, and provided; These are therefore in His Majestie's name to Will, and require you, that you demand of the said Parties, and every of them, the said sum of 20s. apiece, and, if they, or any of them, shall refuse, or neglect payment thereof; That then you levy the said sum, or sums, of the Party, or Parties, so refusing, or neglecting, by Distress, and Sale of the Offenders Goods, according to the Statute, in that Case made, and provided: And, if no Distress can be taken, or had, that then you bring all such Persons before us, or one of us, to to be dealt withall, as to Law, and Justice, appertaineth. And also, that you give warning to all such Brewers, within your said Town, as serve such Unlicensed Alehouses with Beer, that they Surcease, and leave off selling any more unto them, upon pain of being Indicted, and proceeded against according to Law. And hereof fail you not.

A Warrant of the Peace.  
mid.  
FOrasmuch, as F. G. of your Town, hath personally come before me, & hath taken his Corporaloath That H. I. of your Town hath assaulted, and beaten him the said F. G. and further hath threatened him in such sort, that he is afraid, the said H. will wound, or kill him, or do him some other bodily hurt; and thereupon the said F. G. hath prayed Security of the Peace to be granted against the said H. I. These are therefore to will, and require you, and in His Majestie's name straitly to charge, and Command you, that, immediately upon sight hereof, you Attach the Body of the said H. and bring him before me, or some other of His Majestie's Justices of the Peace, within the said County of Middlesex to find sufficient Sureties as well for his personal appearance at the next Sessions of the Peace to be holden for this County, as also for keeping of the Peace towards his said majesty, and all his liege people, and especially towards the said F. G. And, if he shall refuse to do the same, That then you carry him to the Goal of Newgate, there to remain, until he shall perform the premises. And hereof fail you not, &c.   

A Warrant to bring Persons to be bound, to give Evidence against a fellow, at the next Sessions.  
To the Chief Constable of the Town of R. Norff. ss.  
THese are in His Majestie's name, straitly to charge, and Command you, and either of you, that punctually, upon sight hereof, you, or some of you, do cause to come before me, or some other of His Majesties Justice's of Peace within this county, the Persons hereunder-named, to the end, that they, and every of them, may be found to make their Personal appearance at the next General Goal-delivery, or Quarter-Sessions, to be holden for this County, then, and there, to testify their, and every of their knowledges, concerning certain Felonious Acts committed, and done by A. B. now a Prisoner in the Castle of N. &c. And hereof fail you not, &c.   

A Warrant for the Good Behaviour.

THese are to will, and require you in His Majestie's name straitly to charge, and command you, and every of you, that, immediately upon the sight hereof, you bring before me; or some other of His Majestie's Justices of the Peace, for this County, the Body of K. L. of H. to answer such matters; as on His Majestie's behalf shall be objected against him by M. M. And also, that you require him to bring Sureties for his Good Abearing, until the next Sessions. And hereof fail not, &c.   

A Warrant to destrain one, that was drunk.  
To the Constable, Church-Wardens, and Overseers for the Poor, for the Town of Bromley. Oxon. ss.  
FOrasmuch as A. B. of your Parish was, on Wednesday last, being the Second of this Instant month of July, drunk, as appeared, upon my own view by his Staggering, and reeling to and fro. These are therefore in His Majestie's name to charge, and Command you, forthwith to levy by distress, and sale of the Goods of the said A. B. the sum of 5s. and if you can find no Distress, whereof to levy the same, and that he shall refuse, or neglect forthwith to pay the same Money upon Demand thereof; That then you set him into the Stocks, there to remain, by the space of six hours according to Law. And, if he shall pay the said 5s. that then you deliver the same money to R. M. one of the Overseers of the Poor of your Parish, for the use of the Poor there. And that you render to the said A. B. the Over-plus, that shall remain upon your Sale of his said Goods, if any be. And this shall be your Warrant.

A Warrant to search for stolen Goods.  
To the Constables of G. Greeting. Oxon. ss.  
WHereas Complaint hath been made unto me, by N. O. that, of late, he had certain Goods Feloniously taken from him, and that he hath in suspicion divers lewd, and Evil-disposed Persons within your Parish. These are therefore, in His Majestie's name, straitly to charge, and command you, that, immediately upon sight hereof, you make diligent search in all, and every, such suspected Houses, and Places, within your Parish, as you, and the said N. O. shall think convenient. And, if upon the said Search you find any of the said Goods, or other Just cause of suspicion, that then you bring all suspected Persons, as you shall so find, before me, or some other of His said Majestie's Justices of the Peace, within this county, to answer the premises. And hereof, &c.   

A Mittimus against Persons, which keep Ferrets, and Nets, to kill Conies, and refused to enter recognisance for their appearance at the Sessions.  
Norf. ss.  
FOrasmuch, as T. P. and T. R. late of R. afore-said, being this present day brought before me by Warrant by the Constable of R. aforesaid, and, being examined, did, upon their Examinations, confess, that they had kept, and used Nets, and Ferrets, for the taking, and Killing of Conies, by the space of a year last past, contrary to the Laws, and Statutes of the Realm. And, being required to enter into recognisance for their appearance at the next General Quarter-Sessions of the Peace, to be holden for the said County, they did both refuse so to do. These are therefore to will, and require you, and, in His Majestie's name, straitly to charge, and command you, that you receive into your Custody the Bodies of the said T. P. and T. R. whom I sand you by I. D. one of the Constables of R. afore-said; and them safely to keep, until they shall enter such recognisance as afore-said; or that they be otherwise discharged according to Laws. And hereof fail you not, as you will Answer the contrary.

A Warrant for sending a Bastard-Child to the place of its Birth.  
To all Constables, Headboroughs, and other Officers of the several Parishes hereunder mentioned; whom it may concern.  
WHereas R. S. being the Bastard-Childe of T. G and of the age of four years, or thereabouts, hath been found Wandring, and being up and down the Parish of Saint M. and other places thereabouts, and was, as we are credibly informed, born in the Parish of N. D. as appeareth by the Church-Book of the said Parish: These are therefore in His Majestie's name to will, and require you, that according to the general Usage, Custom, and common Acceptance of the Law in point of a lost child, you do convey the same child to the said Parish of Saint D. and that you the Church-wardens, and Overseers for the Poor, of that Parish, do take due Care, that the said child may be there provided for; according, as you will answer the contrary, &c.   

A Warrant from my Lord Chief Justice to apprehended one for Cozenage.  
To all Constables, He adboroughs, and other His Majestie's Officers within the city of London. England.  
THese are in His Majestie's name to charge, and Command you, and every of you, forthwith upon Receipt hereof, to apprehended T. S. and to bring him before me, or some other Justice of the Peace near the place, where he shall be taken, to answer all such matters, as shall be objected against him, on the behalf of His majesty, upon the Complaint of A. B. of London, Esquire, for Cheating; and Cozening of him of a Necklace of Pearl to the value of six hundred pounds, or thereabouts, by false Tokens. Hereof fail you not at your perils.   

A Warrant against a Woman, upon suspicion of having murdered her child.  
To all Constables, and other His Majestie's Officers, and Ministers of Justice, within the City, and Liberty of Westminster.  
WHereas I am Informed, That A. B. hath had a child lately born alive of her Body, and is suspected to have murdered, or made away the said child, since the Birth thereof: These are therefore in His Majestie's name, to charge, & command you, that, immediately upon sight hereof, you apprehended, and bring the Body of the said A. B. before me, or some other Justice of the Peace for the city, and Liberty afore-said, to answer to all such matters, and things, as on the behalf of His majesty shall be objected against her, touching the premises: Likewise, you are to make diligent search, by all lawful means, to find out the truth of the premises, and to bring before me, or some other Justice of the Peace for the City, and Liberty afore-said, all such Persons, as can give any Information on the behalf of His said majesty touching the premises. And hereof fail you not, as you will answer the contrary at your perils Givenunder my Hand, and Seal, &c.   

A Warrant upon a Supplicavit, &c.

R B. One of the Justices of the Peace, of our Sovereign Lord, the King's Majesty, within the County of Middlesex, To the Sheriff of the said County, the Constable of the Hundred of W. the Borshoulder of the Town of Suff. And to all, and singular, the King's Majestie's Bailiffs, and other Ministers, as well within liberties, as without, in the said County, and to every of them, Greeting. Know ye, that I have received the Commandment of our said Sovereign Lord the King, in these words, ( reciting the whole Writ of Supplicavit, which is not always of one Form; because it is sometimes directed To all the Justices of the Peace; sometimes To them, and the Sheriff, and sometimes To one Justice alone: or reciting onely the effect of the Supplicavit) thus, Know ye, that I have received the Commandment of our said Sovereign Lord the King,) to compel A. B. of C. in the said County, Yeoman, to find sufficient Sureties for His Majestie's Peace, by him to be kept toward C. D. of the said Town of C. tailor: and therefore, on the behalf of our said Sovereign Lord the King, I command, and charge you jointly, and severally, that, immediately upon the receipt hereof, you cause the said A. B. to come before me, at my house in C. to find sufficient Surety, and mainprize, for the Peace to be kept towards our said Sovereign Lord, the King, and all his Liege People; and especially towards the said C. D. And, if the said A. B. shall refuse thus to do, that then you him safely convey, or cause to be safely conveyed to the next Goal of His Majestie's, in the said County, there to remain, until that he shall willingly do the same: So, that he may be before the Justice of the Peace of our said Sovereign Lord, the King, within the said County, at their next General Sessions of the Peace,( to be holden at M.) there to answer to our said Sovereign Lord, the King, for his contempt in this behalf. And see, that you certify your doing in the Premises to the said Justices, at the said Sessions; bringing then thither this Precept with you.

The Precept for the Peace.  
〈◇〉 ss. CHarles the second, by the Grace of God, &c. To Our Sheriff of Middlesex, the Constables of the Town of D. and to all, and singular Our Bailiffs, and other Our Ministers in the said County, as well within Liberties, as without, Greeting.  
Forasmuch as A. B. of B. in the County aforesaid, Yeoman, hath personally come before G. B. Esquire, one of the Justices of Our Peace within the said County, and hath taken a corporal Oath, that he is afraid, that one C. D. of S. in the said County, Yeoman, will beat, wound, maim, or kill him, or burn his Houses; and hath therewithal prayed Surety of the Peace, of the said C. D. Therefore we command, and charge you jointly, and severally, that, immediately upon the receipt hereof, you cause the said C. D. to come before the said G. B. or some other of Our said Justices, to find sufficient Surety and mainprize, as well for his appearance at the next Quarter-Sessions of Our Peace, to be holden at M. in the said County, as also, for Our Peace to be kept towards Us, and all Our Lieg People, and chiefly towards the said A. B. and that he the said C. D. shal not do, or by any means procure, or cause to be done, any of the said Evils, to any of Our said People, and especially to the said A. B. And, if the said C. D. shall refuse thus to do, that then immediately, without expecting any further Warrant, you him safely convey, or cause to be conveyed to Our next Prison in the said County, there to remain, until he shall willingly do the same. So that he may be before Our said Justices, at the said next General Sessions of the Peace, to be holden at M. afore-said; then, and there to answer unto us, for his contempt in this behalf. And see, that you certify your doing in the premises to Our said Justices, at the said Sessions; bringing then thither this Precept with you.

A Supersedeas of a Warrant for the Peace.  
R B. Esquire, one of the Justices, &c. forasmuch as A. B. of &c. Yeoman, hath personally come before me at S. and hath found sufficient surety, that is to say, C. D. and E. F, &c. Yeomen, either of the which hath undertaken for the said A. B. under the pain of 20. l. and he, the said A. B. hath undertaken for himself, under the pain of 40. lb. that he, the said A. B. shall well and truly keep the peace towards our said Sovereign Lord the King, and all his Liege people, and especially toward G. H, &c. Yeoman; and also, that he shall personally appear before the Justices of the Peace, of our said Sovereign Lord the King, within the said County, at the next general Sessions of the Peace, to be holden for the said County, therefore, on the behalf of our said Sovereign Lord the King, I command you, and every of you, that ye utterly forbear, and surcease to arrest, take, imprison, or otherwise by any means( for the said occasion) to molest the said A. B. and if you have for the said occasion( and none other) taken, or imprisoned him, that then you cause him to be delivered, and set at liberty, without further delay,

F. de M. in eadem come. Husbandman, tunc, & ibidem, propriis personis similiter venerunt, & manu-ceperunt pro praedicto A. And this may be done also by a single recognisance in latin, with a Condition added, or endorsed in English, for the keeping of the Peace, and for the day, and place, of the Partie's appearance.     


The Return of a Supplicavit.  
ss. First, let him note upon the Back of the Supplicavit, thus.

A Precept for Good Abearing.  
R. B. and W. C. two of the Justices of the Peace, of our Sovereign Lord, the King's Majesty, in the County of M. To the Sheriff of the said County, to the Constables, &c. For as much as A. B. of C. afore-said, is not of good famed, nor of honest Conversation: but an Evil-doer, Riotor, Barrator, 
Any one of these is a sufficient cause.  and perturber of the Peace of our sovereign Lord, the King, as we are given to understand, by the complaint of sundry credible Persons. Therefore, on the behalf of our said Sovereign Lord, the King, we command you, and every of you, that you cause the said A. B. to come before us, or some other of His Majestie's Justices of the Peace within the said county, to find sufficient Surety, and mainprize, as well for his Good-Abearing towards our said Sovereign Lord, the King, and all his Liege People, until the next Quarter-Sessions of the Peace, to be holden in the said County, as also for his appearance then there. And, if he shall refuse, &c. As in the Precept of Peace.   


The recognisance for Good Abearing.  
MEmorandum, quod quarto die Martii, Anno, &c. venit coram me R. B. Armigero, &c.( ut ante in Recognitione Pacis usque ad hoc) Quod idem R. B. personaliter comparebit coram Justiciariis dicti Domini Regis ad pacem, &c. ad proximam Generalem Sessionem, &c. et quod ipse interim se been gerat erga Dominum Regem, & cunctum populum suum, & praecipue erga I. B. de C. &c. & quod ipse non inferret, nec inferri procurabit per se, nec per alios, dampnum aliquod, seu gravamen praefato I. The Record of a forcible Entry.

Where as upon complaint made unto me, this present day, by A. B. of B. in the said County, Yeoman, I went immediately 
For such, as were said detaining by force.  to the Dwelling-House of the said A. B. in B. afore-said, and there found C. D. E. F. and G. H. of B. afore-said, Labourers, forcibly, and with Strong hand, and Armed Power, holding the said House, against the Peace of our said Sovereign Lord, the King, and against the Statute of Parliament, thereof made, in the 15th. year of the Reign of King Richard the Second. Therefore I sand you, by the bringers hereof, the Bodies of the said C. D. E. F. and G. H. convicted of the said Forcible Holding, by mine own View, Testimony, and Record, Commanding you in His Majestie's name, to receive them into your said Goal, and there safely to keep them, until such time as they shall make their Fines to our said Sovereign Lord, the King, for their said Trespasses, and shall be thence delivered, by the order of the Law of this Land. Hereof fail you not, upon the peril, that may follow hereof.

Proclamation for Silence, upon the reading of his Majestie's Writ upon the Statute of Northampton.  
THe King's Majestie's Justice of the Peace straitly chargeth, and in His Majesties Name commandeth all, and every Person, to keep silence, whilst His Majestie's Writ, upon the Statute, made at Northampton, in the second year of King Edward the Third, his Noble Progenitur, delivered to the said Justice, be red, and Proclamation hereof be made accordingly, &c.   


The Proclamation of the Statute of Northampton( 2 and 3.) against wearing armor.  

Then may be red the Writ, or declare the effect hereof in English.   
HIs Majestie's said Justice doth in His Highness Name, and by virtue of His said Writ, straitly charge, and command, that no manner of Person, of what estate, degree, or condition soever, now being within the house of B. &c. ( name in the said Writ) shall go Armed, or keep force of armor, or Weapon, nor do any thing there, or elsewhere, in disturbance of His Majestie's peace, or in offence of the said Statute, upon the pain of losing his said armor, and Weapon, and of imprisoning his body at His Majestie's pleasure.

A Testimonial for a Vagrant Rogue.  
IS. a sturdy Vagrant Beggar, of low parsonage, red-haired, and having the Nail of the right Thumb cloven, was ( tali die, et anno) openly whipped, at D. in the County of M. for a wandring Rogue, according to the Law, and is assigned to pass forthwith from Parish to Parish, by the Officers thereof, the next straight way to S. in the County of D. whereas he confesseth he was born; 
* Or, dwelled by the space of one whole year.  and if the case be such. And he is limited to be at S. afore-said, within ten days now next coming, at his peril.

The Condition of the recognisance.  
THe Condition of this Reoognizance is such, whereas one A. B. late of G. Labourer, was this present day brought before the said Justice, by the above-bound D. E. and was by him charged, with the Felonious taking of twenty Sheep of him, the said D. and thereupon was sent by the said Justice to the King's Majestie's Goal; if therefore he, the said D. shall, and do at the next general Goal-delivery, to be holden in the said County, prefer, or cause to be framed; and preferred, one Bill of Indictment of the said Felony, against the said A. B. and shall, and do then also, give Evidence there concerning the same, as well to the Jurours, that shall then inquire of the said Felony, as also to them, that shall pass upon the Trial of the said A. B. That then, &c. or else, &c.    

A Precept to the Sheriff, for enquiry upon a Riot.

The Condition of a recognisance for Ale-house-keeping.  
THe Condition of this recognisance is such, whereas the within-bounden A. B. is admitted, and allowed, by the within-named R. B. and D. D. two of the King's Majestie's Justices of the Peace, within the said County of Middlesex, within-written, to keep a common Ale-house, or tippling-house; and to use common selling of Ale, or Beer, onely within the now house of him, the said A. B. and not elsewhere, situate in the High-Street of the Town of M. within-written, and called the Sign of the Hart. If therefore he, the said A. B. during such time, as he shall keep such common Ale-house there, shall not suffer any unlawful play at the Tables, Dice, Cards, Tennis, Bowls, Chess, Coyts, Loggets, or other unlawful Games to be used in his said House, or in his Garden, Orchard, or other his ground, or place; Nor dress, or cause, or suffer to be dressed, any Flesh, to be eaten upon any day forbidden by the Laws, or Statutes of this Realm of England; Nor witting, nor willingly admit, or receive into his said House, or any part thereof, any person notoriously defamed of, or for Theft, Incontinency, or Drunkenness, or that shall be beforehand notified to him the said A. B. by the Constable, or Borshoulder of M. aforesaid, for the time being, or by the Deputy of either of them, to be an unmeet person to be received into a common-Ale-house; Nor keep, nor lodge there any strange person, above the space of one day, and one night together, without notice thereof first given to the Constable, or Borshoulder, or the Deputy of one of them, there. And finally, if the said A. B. during all the time, that he shall keep common selling of Ale, or Beer, within the said house, shall, and will there use, and maintain good order, and rule; Then this present recognisance, &c. or else, &c.

Oath of an Under-Sheriff, and his Deputies.  
I, William B. shall not use, nor exercise the office of under-Sheriff-ship, Deputy, clerk, Bailiff, &c. corruptly, during the time, that I shall remain therein, neither shall, nor will, accept, receive, or take by any colour, means, or device whatsoever, or consent to the taking of any manner of Fee, or Reward, of any Person, or Persons, for the impanelling, or returning of any inquest, Jury, or Tales in any Court of Record for the King's Majesty, or betwixt Party and Party, above two Shillings, or the value thereof, or such Fees, as are allowed, or appointed for the same, by the Laws, and Statutes of this Realm: But will, according to my Power, truly, and indifferently, with convenient speed, impanell all Jurours, and return all such Writs touching the same, as shall appertain to be done by my duty, or office, during the time, that I shall remain in the said Office. C. of I. in the said County, was this last night broken open by divers persons, who Feloniously, and Burglarily, did take, and carry away out of the same, Cloaks, &c.( so, naming the Goods, the colours, and marks thereof) These are in His Majenstie's name, straightly to charge, and command you, and every of you, that forthwith, upon the sight hereof, you make diligent search, and enquiry, throughout your several Precincts, as well for the said Goods, as for the Breakers of the said Shop; and, if you shall find any of the said Goods, that then you shall make seizure thereof to His Majestie's use; and to apprehended all such Persons, in whose hands the said Goods, or any part thereof, shall be found, to be examined touching the having of the said Goods, and to apprehended also the Bodies of all such Persons, as you shall suspect to be breakers of the said shop, and them to bring before me, to be examined touching the same, and to be dealt withall as Law requireth. THat, about five weekes since, he was riding from F. afore-said, towards Saint Edmonds-bury, in the County of Suffolk, and in the High-way, within the Parish of R. in the said County of E. he was set upon by two Persons, and was by them robbed, and they took from him, &c. and he saith, upon his Oath, that he doth know the one of those Persons, and saith, that his name is R. D. a Norfolkman, born in, &c. and of the age, as he adjudgeth him, of 28 years, or thereabouts: and the other, he saith, he knoweth not.

The form of an Order for keeping a Bastard-Childe.  
A. & B. two of the Justices of Peace, &c. To all people, to whom this present shall come to be seen, greeting. Whereas E. A. of, &c.( tali die) last past, unlawfully begotten of her body: which child is name A. we therefore the sai Justices, calling before us as well the said E. A. as also one G. T. of, &c. suspected to be the Father of the said child, and thereupon examining as well the said E. A. as the said G. do find by the confession, and oath of the said E. and other Circumstances, appearing unto us, that the said E. is the true Mother of the said Bastard-childe, and that the said G. T. is the reputed Father of the same. And therefore, according to the Statute made in that behalf, we, the said Justices, do set down by these presents an Order, as well for the punishment of the said Mother, and reputed Father, as also for the finding, and relief of the said child, &c.   

A Licence for Badgers, and carriers of Corn, tali die, & Anno. R. B.

AT the General Sessions of the Peace, holden at W. in the County afore-said, the day, and year, above-written, T. C. of, &c. Badger, is admitted, and licensed by the Justices of the Peace in the same County, to be a common Badger, ladder, Keddar, Carrier, Buyer, or Transporter, of all manner of Corn, or Grain, in any Market, or Fair, within the Realm of England, and the same, so bought, to convert to Meal, and the same to carry to the City of L. or the Suburbs of the same, or to any other Market, or Fair; so that he use, and occupy the same, according to the tenor, and true meaning of the Statute, made in the 5th. year of the Reign of our late Sovereign Lord, Edward the sixth, against Regratours, Fore-stallers, and Ingrossours; and not otherwise: the same Licence to have continuance until the next General Sessions, holden at W. afore-said.

FOr as much, as divers persons within your Parish, as we are informed, being assessed by you the said Church-wardens, and Over-seeers, to a weekly contribution, for, and towards the necessary relief of the Poor, and towards a convenient stock of necessary wears, and Stuff, to set the poor on work, according to the Statute made in the 31st. year of the Reign of the late Queen Elizabeth, in the third Chapter, being Inhabitants, and Land-holders within the said Parish, have refused, or from time to time have neglected, to contribute according, as they be assessed: These are therefore, according to the Authority given us by the said Act, being two Justices of Peace, dwelling near the said Parish, to Authorize you the said Church-wardens,

Whether the Goods of Sirangers remaining upon any land, for which these Duties are not satisfied, be distrainable?  and Over-seeers or any of you, to levy all such sums of money, as shall be unsatisfied, and unpaid by any the Inhabitants, or land-holders, as aforesaid, by distress, and sale of the Offender's Goods; rendering to the Party, or Parties, whose Goods you shall so destrain, and sell, the Over-plus: and, if you cannot find any Goods to distrain, you shall return their names to us, that we may proceed therein, as the cause requireth. A passport for a Rogue, according to the Statute of Anno 39. Elizabethae.

WHereas John P. this present day, being the fifteenth of March, 1634. at H. was taken as a rogue, or wandring beggar, and hath received punishment according to the Statute, in that behalf lately provided; Know ye that I, R. B. Esquire, one of the Justices, &c. have licensed, and appointed the said I. P. to travail, and pass from hence-forth-wards, the next, and directest way unto C. in the County of L. whereas he saith he was born,

And from thence, by divers Prorogations, prorogued until, and to the fifth of November, last past, before the Date hereof, and then, and there likewise holden, do certify to the Right Honourable the Lord High Treasurer of England, the Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer, and all other the King's Majestie's Commissioners, and Officers, to whom it shall appertain; That R. &c. is one of the Commissioners of our Sovereign Lord, the King, for the Taxing, Levying, Collecting, and Payment of the said first Payment of the first Subsidy afore-said, within the said County of Middlesex; and that he, the said R. S. in M. aforesaid, and there have been aiding, and assisting to these Persons above-named, in forcible manner to carry away the Wood, and Timber, there of late growing, being the Wood, and Timber of M. S. These are therefore in the King's name, to command you, and every of you, to Arrest as well the said Parties before-named, as the said Persons unknown, being shewed unto you by the said M. S. and to bring the same before me, and this shall be your Warrant, and Discharge.

FOr as much as N. D. of W. in the County of H. Yeoman, hath taken a Corporal Oath before me, that he stands in fear of some bodily Hurt to be done unto him, by T. C. of E. in the County of H. afore-said, Gentleman, or by some other, at his procurement; These are therefore, in the King's Majestie's name, commanding you, immediately upon the sight hereof, that you cause to come before me, or some other of His Majestie's Justices of the Peace within the County of H. afore-said, the said T. The Condition of this recognisance is such, that if the within-bounden R. L. and J. S. or either of them shall, and will personally appear at the next Goal-delivery, to be holden in the County of H. and shall then, and there give evidence against T. S. of K. Labourer, M. his wife, and W. his son, as well to indict, as to find them guilty of a Felony, which is laid to their charge, viz. against the said T. S. for breaking the house of T. L. in H. and stealing out of the same his goods in the night, and against the said M. and W. as accessary for Receiving the same goods, that then this recognisance against them, or him onely, which shall so appear, and do as afore-said, to be voided, and of none effect, or else to, and against him, or them, which shall make default, to stand, remain, and be in full strength, and virtue.   


A recognisance to give in Evidence.

THe Condition of this recognisance is such, that whereas C. D. of Q. is suspected for stealing a cloak, of the goods, and Chattels, &c. If therefore the within-bounden M. H. shall, and do, at the next Goal-delivery to be holden in the said County, prefer, or cause to be framed, or preferred, one Bill of Indictment of the said felony against the said C. D. and shall, & do then also give Evidence there, concerning the same, as well to the Jurors, that shall inquire of the said felony, as also unto them, that shall pass upon the Trial of the said C. D. that then this recognisance, &c.

A form of a Testimonial for a Rogue after punishment, secundum Statut.

B. whipped, as a Rogue, at S. in the said County, according to the late Statute in that behalf made in the 39th year of the Reign of the late Queen Elizabeth, and assigned to be sent from thence forthwith after the punishment by the officers of S. aforesaid, to the Parish of Saint, &c. being the next Parish, the strait way to Q. in the County of F. where, he saith, he was born, and so to be sent by the officers there to the next Parish, the same strait way, and so from Parish to Parish successively by the officers there, until he shall be brought to the Parish of Q. and delivered to the officers there to remain, and be provided for according to the said Statute. A Precept to fetch back a Servant, gone into another County.

Esquire, one of Her Majestie's Justices of Peace in the County afore-said, to the Sheriff of the County of E. and to all Constables, and Head-boroughs, in the same County, and to every of them, greeting. Where by a Statute made in the first year of the Reign of the late Queen Elizabeth, it is ordered, that, if any servant shall unlawfully depart from his Master, Mistress, or Dame, from any one Shire, or County, into another, it should be lawful for any one Justice of Peace of the same County, from whence any such servant shall so depart, to sand his precept, or precepts, into the other County, into which any such servants shall so come: and for as much as E. D. a servant to Q. R. of E. Tailor, is gone from his said Master, without any Testimonial, or his lawful Licence, into the said County of E. These are therefore by authority of the said Statute, and in His Majestie's name, to require, command, and charge you, that forthwith upon the sight hereof, you go with the Bearer hereof, and, as speedily as you may, apprehended the said E. D. and him bring before me, or some other Justice of the Peace in S. to be ordered, as in that Case appertaineth. And hereof fail you not, as you will answer, &c.   

A Warrant for Victuallers.

THese are, requiring you in the King's Majestie's name, that you make forth your Precepts to all the Petty Constables within your Hundred, commanding them therein, that, by virtue hereof, they do summon, and warn to appear before us, at W. on the tenth of this September, by seven of the clock in the fore-noon, all the Victuallers within your Hundred, and all such, as have sold any Ale, or Beer, with Licence, or without, at any time within the space of one whole year last past; that such, as have been licensed, do also bring their Licence with them, that we may take such course therein, as Law, and Justice shall require. Whereof fail you not, as you will answer the contrary at your perils.

A discharge to the Constable.  
To the High Constable of the Hundred of H.  
THese are, requiring you in the King's Majestie's name, that you make out your Precepts to all the Petty Constables within your Hundred, commanding them therein, that by virtue hereof they discharge all such, as shall keep a tippling-house, or shall commonly sell Ale, or Beer, within their Jurisdiction, other then such, as are lawfully licensed thereunto, whose names are here under written, & do forbid them in our names, that they shall not from henceforth keep any common tippling-house, or use commonly to sell Ale, or Beer, contrary to the Statute in that case provided; and if ye shall know of any offending, and doing contrary to the said commandment, that then ye shall bring the said persons so offending before one of us, that they may be forthwith committed to the Common-Goal for the County of H. there to remain without Bail, or mainprize, by the space of three days, and before their deliverance to enter into recognisance with two sureties, that they shall not offend in the like again, besides their penalty of 20s. which is to be assessed upon themat the Quarter-Sessions then next following. Whereof fail you not, as you will answer the contrary at your perils.

N. of F. in the County afore-said, being a very poor man, and blind, by reason whereof he is not able to labour, nor get to live of himself, without the charitable relief of others, and being now resident in the same Town, is therefore to be relieved, and being likewise informed, that the Town is, at this present, charged with more poor, and impotent folk, then it is able to relieve; Know you therefore, that we, the said Justices, have licensed, and allowed the said poor man, and his leader, to go abroad, and beg, gather, and receive the charitable Alms of well-disposed people, inhabiting, and dwelling within the Hundred of, &c. in the said County; requiring you not to molest, or trouble the said poor man, or his leader, for so doing, but desiring you rather to relieve him and his leader in their necessity, as to you shall seem meet. A Licence for a Pettie-Chapman.

G. of H. in the County afore-said, Yeoman, to be a Petty-Chapman, to wander, and go from Town to Town, Village to Village, and place to place, to sell Pins, Points, Tapes, Laces, Knives, Gloves, Purses, Aqua-Vitae, Aqua-Composita, and such other kind of small wears, and also to gather, and buy Coney-skins, and such kind of small wears within the County aforesaid, and not elsewhere: Provided, that this our Licence to endure in effect, for, and during the space of one whole year next ensuing the Date hereof, and no longer.

A Certificate for a Trained soldier.  
THese are to signify unto you, that A. B. the Bearer hereof, is a Trained soldier of the Borough of S. for His Majestie's service, appointed under my Colours, and therefore not otherwise to be charged, or molested, as you will answer the contrary. Given at P. &c.   

A Licence for Badgers of Corn, primo die Maii, anno Regni 3.  
AT the General-Sessions of the Peace, holden at K. in the County afore-said, the day, and year, above-written, T. C. of W. in the County afore-said, is admitted, licensed, and appointed by the Justices of Peace, of the said County, to be a common Badger, ladder, Keddar, Carrier, Buyer, or Transporter of all manner of Corn, or Grain, in any Market, or Fair, within the Realm England, & the same, so bought, to convert to Meal, and the same to carry to the City of L. or the Suburbs of the same, or to any other Market, or Fair; so that he use the same according to the tenor, and true meaning of the Statute lately made in the first year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord, King Edward the Sixth, against Regratours, Fore-stallers, and not otherwise. The same Licence to have continuance from the Date hereof, until the next General-Sessions of the Peace, after the Feast of E. next coming, to be holden at K. afore-said.

Orders, and Rules, to be observed in the time of the Plague.  
A Warrant to the Church-Wardens, and Over-seers of the Poor of C. and to every of them, &c.  
FOr as much as the Sickness of the Plague doth so exceedingly increase within the City of L. Borough of S. and the Parishes adjoining, as it hath occasioned the King's majesty to defer the public heroic Solemnizing of His Coronation, to avoid Concourse of People, which might increase the Infection through all parts of the Realm, and purposeth to be crwoned at Westminster, very shortly, without any great show, and yet must repair hither, whereupon His Highness hath specially directed, that we shall, as well by good Orders, endeavour, as much, as in us lieth, to cease the Infection in such places, where it already is, as also to prevent the same in the Parishes near L. whereas it is in performance of our Duty herein; We do, in His Highnesse's Name, Command, and Charge you, the Officers, to give Example of good Order, and to give warning to the Inhabitants, to observe the Order, hereunder prescribed, during the time of this Infection.  
1. That from henceforth yourself, nor any of them, do receive into your Houses, or harbour any Citizen of L. or other Person, their Children, or Servants, that come from Houses Infected.  
2. That no Person whatsoever shall, from henceforth, receive any Napery, or other Linen, out of L. or the Suburbs, in other Parishes, that are Infected, and the same to wash, and dry within this Parish, and if those, that are Washers, be so poor, as, without that help, they cannot relieve their Family, to give notice, that Order may be taken for their succour, during this time of restraint.  
3. That no Ale-house-keeper do suffer to drink, or abide in his House on the Sabbath, or other days, any, that shall come from L. or the Suburbs, during the time of this Infection.  
4. That alehouse-keepers shall not make any public Dinners within their Houses, to occasion concourse of people, either upon Marriages, or other Meetings.  
5. That two honest ancient women, of good carriage, inhabiting within the Parish, be appointed for Searchers, and presented unto some of us to be sworn, that, if any Sickness should happen within the Parish, which God prevent, shall search, and view the Bodies of such dying, to discover the quality of the Disease, and thereof to make Certificate.  
6. That, if any, being poor people, happen to die of the Plague within this Parish, then to cause their Houses to be shut up, and the Church-wardens, and Over-seeers of the Poor, to see them relieved, and, if they have not in their hands sufficient, to give notice unto us, that we presently take Order for their relief.  
And, for that annoyances are chief occasions of infection, you shall command all dunghills, lay-stalls, and other noisome annoyances, being in the Villages, or near the High-ways, within the Parish, presently to be removed.  
And, if we shall find yourselves negligent, or remiss in your office, or offenders, touching these orders, you shall be certified to the Lords of His Honourable council, to be punished, as the quality of the offence requires.  
And, if any other person offend you, you shall presently present his, or their names to us, that such punishment may be inflicted, as is fit. And thereof fail you not.

The Justices appointment of Over-seers of the poor.  
Vicessimo Maii, 1660.  
MEmorandum, that we, the Justices of Peace, in, and near the Parish of N. in the County of S. according to the Authority of the Statute in the forty third year of Elizabeth,( Capite secundo) for Relief of the poor, do appoint unto the Church-wardens, R. C. I. G. P. L. and T. C. to be Over-seers of the poor of the said Parish for the year to come; who are, by the said Statute, to raise weekly, or otherwise, by Taxations of every Inhabitant, and every occupier of the Land, within the said parish, by the consent of two, or more such Justices of Peace, in such competent sum, and sums, as they shall think fit, a convenient stock of wears, and Stuff, to set the poor on work, and also competent sums of Money, for, and towards the necessary relief of the lame, old, impotent, and such other among them, being poor, and not able to work, and see the putting out of children to be apprentices, and to do, and execute all such other things, as by the said Act they be authorised. These are hereby further to charge, and command the Church-wardens, and Over-seeers of the Poor, for this year past, within four days after the publication hereof, to make, and yield up unto us a true, & perfect account of all sums of money, by them received, and also of such stock, as shall be in their hands, or in the hand of any of the Poor to work, and of all other things concerning their said Office, and such sum, or sums of money, as shall be in their hands, to pay, and deliver to such of the Church-Wardens, and Over-seers newly nominated, and appointed, upon pain of twenty shillings to him, or them, that shall fail therein.

Further Directions against the Plague.  
To the Church-Wardens, and Over-seers of the Poor, of the Parish of &c.  
WHereas we gave long since special Orders unto you, for the avoiding of the increase of the Contagion, and considering, it hath pleased God now, of his goodness, to assuage the Sickness in great measure amongst us, we are let to understand by letters, from the Lords of His Majestie's Privy Council, that there hath been a slackness, and no due regard in the performing your duties on your parts; and therefore we are required again by them to do our best endeavours for the executing of such former directions. These are therefore, in the King's Majestie's name, strictly to will, and require your careful, and speedy endeavours in the observation, and keeping all those orders, and directions( concerning the stay of the Contagion) whereof we have formerly prescribed unto you; both for the preserving them, that be already infected, and preventing from others, that are now whole. And, if any person shall be obstinate, and hinder the proceeding of the said directions, that you cause them to be brought before one of us, to receive such condign punishment, as the quality of the offence shall require, or deserve. Whereof fail you not, as you will answer the contrary at your perils.

And, if the Bailiff do not deliver the Plaintiff his cattle upon this Alias Replevin, nor show sufficient cause, why he did not, then the party may have a Pluries Replevin, which must be made verbatim, as the Alias Replevin was made, onely changing this word Alias into Pluries.  
And Note, that upon all these Replevies there must be a Bond, of forty pounds at the least, taken of him, to whom the Replevie is granted, for his appearance, at the next Court after, and for the prosecution of his svit, and to make return of the cattle, if return be adjudged. For as much as it hath been duly proved before us, according to the Statute in that behalf provided; That R. M. of A. in the said parts, and County, Gentleman, upon the 23d. and 24th. days of this instant August, hath been, and continued drinking, and tippling in the House of W. R. of M. in the County afore-said, contrary to the form of the same Statute: These are therefore, in His Majestie's name, to charge, and command you, and every of you, forthwith to levy by distress, and of the Goods of the said R. M. the Sum of three shillings, and four pence, if he shall refuse, or neglect, forthwith to pay the same; and that you render to the said R. M. the Over-plus, that shall remain upon your sale of his said Goods. And so that you pay the said sum of 2. s. and 4. d. so by you levied unto the Church-wardens, and Over-seers of the Poor of M. which said Torfeiture shall be bestowed, and employed by them to the use of the Poor there: And, if he shall refuse, or neglect to pay the said Forfeitures, and that you can find no sufficient distress, whereon to levy the same; That then you, the Constables, or one of you shall commit the said R. M. for refusing, or neglecting to pay the said Sum, or Forfeiture,( and not having sufficient, whereon to be destrained for the same) to the Stocks: there to remain for the space of four hours. And this shall be your sufficient Warrant herein.

Whereas complaint hath been made unto me by K. I. of your said Town, single Woman, that she is gotten with child by one T. D. also of your said Town; These are therefore to will, and require you, &, in His Majestie's name, to charge, and command you, and either of you, that, presently upon the receipt hereof, you attach the Body of the said T. S. and thereupon to bring him before me, or some other of His Majestie's Justices of Peace for the said Parts, and County, to find sufficient Sureties, as well for his appearance at the next General Quarter-Sessions of the Peace, to be holden at B. for this County,( To the end, he may be forth-coming, 
Or, by the space of 20. days next after the date of this Warrant.  when as order shall be taken for the relief, and discharging of the said Town of B. and for the keeping of the said Child, when it shall happen to be born.) According to the Statute in that Case provided, as also for his good behaviour towards his Majesty, and all his liege People in the mean time, &c.

WHereas I have received information under the hands of some of the Justices of Peace, of the parts of K. that one A. M. the retained Servant of E. A. of your Town, for time yet to come, is put away from her said Service, unduly, and contrary to the Law of this Realm: I charge you therefore, and hereby authorize you, to convey her the said A. unto her said Master E. A. and, if he shall not her receive, as his servant, or make any refusal, or dilatory excuses, that then you will him to come presently before me, or some other my fellows, and in Commission of the Peace for the parts, and County aforesaid, to answer as well such his refusal, &c. as also why he should not pay unto our Sovereign Lord the King the sum of five pounds, for such his unlawful putting away of his said Servant: which if he shall refuse to do, that then, by virtue hereof, you him attach, and convey to the Goal for the said County, until he shall willingly perform the same.  
Given at C. the 26th. of April, in the sixth year of the Reign of our liege Lord King Charles, &c. 1630.   

Another for relief of a man-servant, that is out of service.  
WHereas complaint is made unto me by T. S. that he, being lawfully retained in the service of T. H. of your Town, Husbandman, at Michaelmass was twelvemonth, and being put away from his Service at Michaelmass last, hath been at the Statute-Sessions, and cannot provide himself of a service, being destitute of means wherewith to relieve himself; These are therefore, in his Majestie's name, strictly to charge, and command you, that presently upon the receipt hereof, you do receive the said T. S. into your Town, and see him set on work, and provided for according to the Statute, in that case made, and provided. Hereof fail you not at your peril.  
Given at S. the fourteenth day of December, in the sixth year of His Majestie's Reign, &c. 1630.    

To the Church-Wardens, and Over-seeers of the poor of C. &c. and to every of them.  
A Warrant for the bringing forth of Corn in the time of Dearth.  
WHereas we have lately received Letters from the Lords of his Majestie's most Honourable Privy-Council, commanding us thereby in His Majestie's name, to cause a diligent and exact Survey to be taken of all the Corn, and Grain within this Hundred; Now for so much as they, whose names are hereunder written, are presented to us by such, as have enquired thereof to have Corn to spare more, then is needful for the maintenance of their Families. These are therefore to command you, to summon, and warn all the said parties to be, and appear before us at G. the 20th. of this instant May, by one of the Clock in the afternoon of the same day, there to receive such further directions, as then, and there, shall be given them in charge, according to such orders as are appointed by His majesty to be straitly observed in that behalf. Hereof fail you not at your peril.  
Dated at W. this eighteen day of May, in the Seventh year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles, &c. Anno Dom. 1630.   

A Warrant to levy 3. s. 4. d. upon a Constable for neglecting his duty.  
To the chief Constables of A. and to the under Constables of H. and to their Deputies, Greeting. Lincoln. Kesteven.  
FOr as much as at our Assembly at F. the 26th. of October last, for the taking up the account of the under-Constables, concerning the execution of the Statute made in Anno Septimo Jacobi nuper Regis Angliae, &c. touching Rogues, and wanderers, T. C. of H afore-said, being one of the then Constables there, was fined at 3. s. 4. d. for that he, being negligent in his office, refused to make such an account, as by the said Statute is appointed. These are therefore to will, and command you, or some of you, forthwith upon the receipt hereof, to demand of the said T. C. the said fine, and, if he shall refuse, or neglect to pay the same unto you within three days, that then immediately you do levy the said 3. s. 4. d. by distress, and sale of his goods, and chattels, rendering unto him the overplus thereof, if any such shall remain; and lastly, that one of you the Chief Constables do pay the same unto the now Treasurer of the marshalsea, at, or before the next Quarter-Sessions of the Peace, to be holden at B. for these parts. And this shall be your sufficient Warrant in that behalf.

A Warrant to levy the forfeiture of such as do not repair to Church.

FOr as much, as it hath been sufficiently proved unto me upon Oath, that G. H. of your said Town, Gentleman, did not yesterday,( being Sunday) in the Forenoon repair to any Church, Chapel, or other usual place for Common-Prayer, contrary to the form of the Statute in that case made, and provided; These are therefore in His Majestie's name to command you, to require him, the said G. H. to come before me, to show some reasonable excuse for his neglect therein, and also provided to make due proof thereof, or else to pay twelve pence to the use of the Poor of your said Parish. And see, that you make return of this Warrant, and certify your doings therein. And hereof fail you not at your perils.

An hue and cry after Robbers.  
To the Constables, and other His Majestie's Officers, as well within the County of C. or else-where within the Realm of England.  
WHereas Complaint hath been made unto me, M. D. one of His Majestie's Justices of the Peace, within the said County of C. by I. S. of, &c. Husbandman; That upon Tuesday at night last, being the 11th. day of Novemb. he was robbed of certain Linen, taken out of his House, with 
They would be name.  some other things, and that he hath manifest cause of suspicion of one A. B. a lewd Rogue ( here describe his Person, Age, and Apparel.) These are therefore, in His Majestie's name, to require you, and every of you, to make search within your several Precincts, for the said A. B. and also to make hue and Cry after him, from Town to Town from County to County, and that as well by Horse-men, as by Foot-men. And, if you shall find him the said A. B. that then you carry him before some one of His Majestie's Justices of the Peace, within the County, where he shall be taken, by him to be dealt withall according to Law.   

A Warrant for one, who hath dangerously hurt another.

FOr as much, as I am credibly informed, that I. B. of your Town, tailor, hath now lately dangerously hurt one T. G. Yeoman, by a Blow, which he hath given him the said T. on the Face, and another on the Back, so as the said T. is in danger of death; These are therefore, in His Majestie's Name, straitly to charge, and command you, that, immediately upon the sight hereof, you, or one of you, do bring the said I. B. before me, or some other of His Majestie's Justices of the Peace of this County, to find sufficient Sureties, as well for his appearance before the King's Majestie's Justices, at the next General Goal-delivery to be holden for this County, then, & there to answer unto the premises, and to do, and receive therefore that, which by the Court shall be enjoined him. As also, that he the said I. B. shall in the mean time keep the King's Majestie's Peace towards His said Majesty, and all His Liege people, and especially towards the said T. G. And hereof fail you not at your perils.

Where a Maid-Servant is got with child, and from thence sent to her place of Birth.  
FOr as much as I. M. for the space of two years now last past, hath dwelled in the Parish of W. in the County of E. and being there settled in Service with B. E. of W. afore-said, was got with child, and, being so with child, is now sent, or conveyed to your Town of B. under colour, that she was there born; to the burdening your said Town, and contrary to the Law: These are therefore in His Majestie's Name, to charge, and command you safely to convey the said I. to W. afore-said, there to be set on work, or otherwise to be provided for according to the Law: And that you deliver, and leave, or offer to leave the said I. to, and with some one of the Church-wardens, and Over-seers for the poor of the parish of W. afore-said. And hereof fail you not, &c.  

NOte, that such Maid-servants cannot be sent from the place, where she is( or last was) in service, to the place of her birth, but must set her self to labour where she last dwelled, or served, being able of body: or being impotent, she is to be relieved by the Town where she last dwelled, or served. See hic antea Tit. Poor, &c.    

A Warrant to distrain such, as refuse to pay their rates for the poor.  
To the Church-Wardens, and other the Over-seers for the poor, within the Parish of W. and to every of them.  
FOr as much as I am credibly informed, that the persons here under-named do refuse to contribute, or pay the sums of money here under-mentioned upon their heads, being assessed, and ranted upon them severally, for, and towards the necessary relief of the poor of your said Town, according to the form of the Statute in that behalf lately provided: These are therefore in his Majestie's name to charge, and command you, and every of you, forthwith to levy all, and every the said sums of money unpaid, and all the arrearages thereof, of all, and every the said persons so refusing, by distress, and sail of the offenders goods, you rendering to the parties the over-plus that shall remain upon the sale of those goods. And this shall be your sufficient warrant therein

RH. Knight, one of the King's Majestie's Justices of the Peace, within the parts and County afore-said, &c. To the High-Corstables of the Hundred of W. These are in his Majestie's name to require you, that you direct the precepts to every petty Constable within your Hundred, requiring them, that they warn all Alehouse-keepers, and victuallers within your said hundred, to be, and personally to appear before us at L. upon Thursday, &c. then, and thither bringing with them their Licences; and further, that every of them bring with them a Certificate of their fitness, and honest behaviour in keeping of their Alehouses, and Victualing-houses, under the hands of four, at the least, of the most substantial, honest, and discreet inhabitants of the Parishes, where they so keep, or dwell. And hereof fail you not, &c.   

A Confirmation of the Rates for the poor.

And we do hereby Authorize the present Church-wardens, and Over-seers for the poor, within the Parish of R. and every of them, to levy by way of distress, and sale of the goods of all such persons, as shall refuse, or neglect to pay the several Taxations afore-said( upon them imposed) rendering to the owners the over-plus, which shall remain upon the said sail, according to the Statute in that case made, and provided.

A Warrant for the levying of money for the repair of St. Paul's Church.

WHereas we have received his Majestie's Commission to us, and others, directed for Collectors to be made for the repairs of Saint Paul's Church in London, and, in pursuance thereof, have called before us divers persons of the best abilities, within your several Parishes, whereof most of them have already contributed towards the same, and for as much as His Majesty, out of his Princely care towards the meaner sort of his people( of whose willingness to further to pious a work he makes no doubt) lest by drawing them from their affairs, and occasions, they might suffer damage, hath been graciously pleased to authorize us, by the said Commission, to give you Directions, and Authority to ask, and receive the Benevolence of well-disposed people within your several Parishes: These are therefore by virtue thereof, to Authorize, and direct you forthwith, upon receipt hereof, and, at the furthest, before the twentieth of the next month, with all care, and diligence, to ask, and receive the said Benevolence within your several Churches, or at their own Houses, which shall be most expedient for the best advancement of the said work: Which being collected, you shall make the same forthwith known to your several Curates, or Ministers, who, by the tenor of the said Commission, are in writing to keep a Double thereof, written in the Books of accounts of your several Parishes, and that you make Certificate and payment thereof unto John Brownly, Esquire, within one week after the receipt thereof; and do then also set your Names, or Marks, unto such Books, as we are to keep for that purpose. Whereof fail you not.

THese are to will, and require you, and, in His Majestie's name, straitly to charge, and command you, that presently, upon the Receipt hereof, you bring before the next Justice of Peace unto your Town, the bodies of these Persons here-under-named, to give account for their refusing such Apprentices, as were appointed unto them heretofore by His Majestie's Justices, or else to stand to such Order, as shall be agreeable to Law, and His Majestie's pleasure declared therein. Herein fail you not, as you will answer the Contrary.

A Bond to stand to an Award.
