A LETTER From PORTSMOUTH  
SIR,  
THE King is very busy in advice with the Lords and the rest attending His Majesty; There seems to be great hopes that the Treaty will produce good; His Majesty seeming( now) to be more willing to comply then ever; The Commissioners are expected here: And there is a guard appointed to see the Commissioners safe arrival, and that al mutinies, or insurrections that may disturb the Treaty be prevented, and that there may be a free passage, between the King, and the Commissioners, and the Parliament. The Army do acquiesce to the resolutions of the Parliament, and do not at all interpose the Treaty, expecting, and hoping the performance of what is promised both by His Majesty and the Parliament, that is, to enjoy an happy and long looked for peace, and enjoyment of the Subjects Liberties.

THe Committee of Estates are labouring to raise Forces for defence of their own kingdom as they pretend, and have chosen 91 colonels of Horse and Foot for every shire, respectively; A List of which I have sent you. It is believed that upon Lieu. G. Crumwells coming to berwick, the Clergy and the marquis of Arguile, will prevail with the kingdom of Scotland, to answer what shall be expected, and deliver the treacherous and perfidious Revolters to justice.
