EDINBURGH, The twenty third of February, one thousand six hundred and sixty four.  
THe Lords of His Majesties Privy Council considering, that albeit it is appointed by the fifth Act of the second Session of this last Parliament, all persons in public Trust, or who should be called thereafter or admitted to any public Trust or Office, should publicly, in face of their respective Courts to which they relate, subscribe the Declaration appointed by the said Act; and that they should have no right to their respective Offices, till they should subscribe the same. As likewise, that in pursuance thereof, Orders have been issued from the Council to the Sheriffs of Shires and Magistrates of Burghs, for offering the same to all persons in public Trust within their respective jurisdictions, and to return an account thereof betwixt and the eighteen of this instant: Yet notwithstanding, many persons do refuse or delay to give obedience, that yet continue to exercise their Places and Offices. Therefore, they ordain a herald, as Sheriff in that part, in His Majesties name, by open Proclamation, at the Mercat-crosses of the several head Burghs of this Kingdom, to discharge all persons in public Trust and Office under His Majesty; such as Sheriffs, Stewarts, bailiffs of Regalities, or other bailiffs, Commissars, their Deputes and Clerks, Magistrates and Council of Burghs, Iustices of Peace and their Clerks, and all others in public Trust or Place within this Kingdom, who shall not subscribe the said Declaration betwixt and the fourteenth day of April next to come, to exercise any of their saids Offices or Places; With certification, that if they do in the contrary, they shall be proceeded against and punished as usurpers of His Majesties Royal Authority, and their Places disposed of to others. And ordains the same to be printed, that none pretend ignorance.
