I 7 R dieu ET MON DROIT HONI SOIT QVI MAL Y PENSE royal blazon surmounted by a crown and flanked by the English lion and Tudor rose on one side and the Scottish unicorn and thistle on the other A PROCLAMATION Anent the Peace of the Highlands. james by the Grace of GOD, King of Great-Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith ▪ To 〈…〉 Macers of Our Privy Council, or Messengers at Arms, Our Sheriffs in that part, conjunctly and severally, specially constitute, Greeting: Whereas by reason of the present sitting of Our Parliament, several of the Commissioners appointed for the Districts in the High-lands, are necessarily withdrawn from attending the Meetings appointed, by a Commission granted to them of the ninth day of August 1682. years, We have therefore, with Advice of Our Privy Council, hereby thought fit to appoint the first Meeting of these Districts for this year, to be at the places and Diets after-specified, viz. These for the District of Balquhidder, to be at the Rannoch, the twenty ninth day of June next; These of the same District, and those of the Districts of Lochness, and Kincarden of Neill, to meet altogether at Inverlochie, the sixth day of July, then next ensuing: And thereafter appoints the saids Commissioners of the saids three Districts to meet at Keppoch in the Brae of Lochaber, the thirteenth day of the said month of July, and then and there Authorizes and empowers them to appoint their own general Meetings, and Circular Meetings, as they shall think most convenient for securing the Peace of Our Highlands, every manner of way, comform to Our Laws and Acts of Parliament, Proclamations of Our Privy Council, and Commission above-written, and Our Proclamation of the twentieth day of July 1685. years, Reviving and renewing the same. It is always hereby Declared, That the alteration of the saids Diets and Places of meeting for this year, is not to derogat from the Diets and places appointed for the meeting of the saids Districts, comform to Our said Commission for the ensuing year, or any year thereafter, but that the same is to be punctually observed, as is thereby prescribed, unless We shall think fit to Order otherwise; And to the end Our Pleasure in the Premises may be made public and known, Our Will is, and We Charge you strictly and Command, that incontinent, these Our Letters seen, ye pass to the Mercat across of Edinburgh, and Mercat Crosses of the head Burghs of the Shires of Innerness, Cromarty, Nairn, Elgin, Bamff, Aberdeen, Kincardin, Forfar, Perth, Dumbarton, Stirling, Argile, Tarbet, and other places needful, and there, in Our Royal Name and Authority, make publication of Our Pleasure in the premises, that obedience may be given thereto, by all persons concerned accordingly. And further, We hereby Require the Sheriffs, and other magistrates of the respective Shires foresaid, to cause this Our Proclamation to be red, and affixed at the several Paroch Kirk-doors, on the first Lords-day, after the same comes to their hands, and after Divine-worship, besides the causing publish the same at the Mercat Crosses aforesaid, as they will be answerable.
