The fountain Or Well Of life, out ot the which doth spring most sweet consolations, right necessary for troubled consciences to th'intent that they shall not despair in adversity and trouble. Taste & see how sweet the lord is Blessed is that man that trusteth in him Psal. xxxiii. ¶ To the christian reader. Behold here (christian reder) the very living mountain, the celestial treasure of gods promises, out of which do spring most fruitful consolacons for thee, when so 〈…〉 thou wilt resort unto it in thine adversity with a thirsty stomach. For here be compendiously gathered together, the things that peradventure thou mightest seek after in the Bible a great while. And here thou mayst soon find wherewith thou shalt be able, not only to cure thine own wounds but also to recomfort thy neighbour being fallen in to any adversity. And moreover to make strong and encoura● the feebleness of man's con●ence, with these most dele●●le scriptures of the great mercy of God. For all consolation or comfort of man, shall savour but like in thee, after that thou hast once tasted of this. Thy physician, thy wife, thy parents and friends do promise that nothing but bodily health and put the in hope of longer life, but the word of god doth put the in hope of the life everlasting, and causehth the to sustain the hand? of god with all patience, and to witstande the fear of death with a bold courage, even as it were with a strong bulwark, wherefore most gentle reoder, I beseech the to take in wrath this work such as it is, being bestowed only to thy use, and leaving all courageous waters & stinking filthy pudels that may infect thy mind with error heresy and sedition: Drink largely out of this uncorrupt and pure well of our saviours the knowledge of his high me●cy, And in the mean time consider how thou art bound to eschew those two. evils, whereof the prophet jeremy doth speak in this wise▪ My people Heir. 2 have committed. two. evils they have forsaken me that am the well of the water of life, and have digged out broken c●sternes that can hold no water, but rather press thou boldly to the throne Hiere. 5. of his grace, that thou mayst obtain mercy and find grace in time of need. Blessed are you, when that men do say evil unto you, & do pursue Luke. 12 you, & do speak all evil against you, dying because of me, rejoice & be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.
