royal blazon or coat of arms C R HONI SOIT QVI MAL Y PENSE dieu ET MON DROIT ❧ By the King. ¶ A Proclamation that all Captaines, Lieutenants, and other Officers shall repair to their Companies, and that all Souldiers shall repair to their Colours. WHereas vpon the return of Our fleet from spain, Wee did direct and appoint, that none of Our Souldiers employed in that service, and which should return in any of those ships, should be disbanded or departed from their Colours, but remain and continue under the command of those under whom they serve, Wee having occasion then and yet to use their service again, and yet We were enforced for a time to Lodge and Billet the said Souldiers in several Counties and places near adjoining unto the Sea-Coasts, where with most conveniency for the Souldiers, and least trouble to the country, it might best be performed, until We should haue opportunity to employ them. Now, to the intent the said Souldiers may bee exercised, Trained, and kept in good Order, for the better performance of Our service when occasion shall require, We do hereby publish and declare Our royal pleasure to be, And Wee do straitly charge and command all& every the Captaines, Lieutenants, Corporals, and other Our Officers, who haue the command of any of Our troops or Companies, or any part of them, which were the remainder of Our army that returned from spain; That forthwith they and every of them do repair to their several troops and Companies, as they tender Our pleasure, and will answer the contrary at their perils: And that all and every the Souldiers being in Our Pay, who are from their Colours, do forthwith, vpon pain of death, repair unto such captain or Captaines, or other Officers under whose Command they formerly served, and there continue in Our service until they shal be lawfully discharged. And for the better execution of this our just and necessary Commandement, Wee do hereby charge and command all and singular Lieutenants, deputy Lieutenants, Maiors, Sheriffes, Iustices of the Peace, bailiffs, Constables, Headboroughs,& other Our Officers, Ministers and loving Subiects within this Our realm of England, That if they or any of them shall find, or be informed of any soldier or Souldiers, who contrary to this Our Command shall not repair to their Colours, but do neglect the same notwithstanding this public warning; That then they sand and convey such soldier or Souldiers, so negligent, as aforesaid, from Constable to Constable, until he shall be brought to his own Company. And for the preventing of all disorders, which otherwise may be committed, it being feared, that there being souldiers in entertainment, many lewd persons under the colour of that name, do, and will wander as Rogues and Vagabonds, whereby much harm and prejudice may ensue to Our loving Subiects: We do hereby strictly charge and command all and singular Maiors, Sheriffes, Iustices of Peace, and other Our Officers and Ministers aforesaid, That they finding any such Rogues, Vagabonds or disordered persons, under the name of souldiers, or otherwise, they sand them from Constable to Constable, until they come to the place where they were born, there to remain: And Wee do give strict charge and command to all and every Constable and Constables, and other Our Officers to be diligent and attendant in conveying& conducting such Rogues, Vagabonds and disordered persons, which from time to time shalbe committed to their care and charge to bee conveyed as aforesaid, and in the due execution of Our command, concerning the premises, as they tender their duty and Allegiance to us, and the peace, and the good of their country, and will answer for the contrary at their uttermost perils. And lastly Our will& pleasure is, and We do hereby publish and declare, That if any person or persons, who haue heretofore served in the Warres, and not in Our entertainment, or any others who are desirous to serve, will voluntarily present him or themselves to the Commissioners in any of Our Counties, wherein the said troops are billeted, they shall bee there received into Our Pay. given at Our Court at White-Hall the nine and twentieth day of january, in the second year of Our reign of Great britain, France and Ireland.
