THe Kings most Excellent majesty perceiving the present increase and dispersing of the Plague into sundry parts of the kingdom, is willing by His Princely Care and providence to prevent the occasions of the further spreading thereof, by the public concourse of His People in these times of Danger; And therefore calling to mind that Sturbridge Faire, usually kept near Cambridge, is now at hand, which if it should be held this year, were likely( through the exceeding confluence of people thither from all parts of the Land) to occasion the scattering of the Infection in those places, which yet by Gods mercy stand clear and free. His majesty hath thought good to Declare His royal Pleasure and Commandement therein, And doth hereby straightly Charge and Require all His loving Subiects whatsoever, to forbear to resort this year to that Faire, and expressly Commandeth the Lords and others interested therein, That they shall not hold or keep this next Sturbridge Faire near Cambridge, nor elsewhere, nor any part thereof, nor any thing pertaining thereunto, vpon pain of such punishment, as for an offence so much importing the general safety of His People, they shall be adiudged unto, which they must expect to be inflicted with all severity. And His majesty doth hereby further Charge and Command under the like penalty, all Citizens and Inhabitants of His city of London, that none of them, for this present year, shall bring or sand any of their Goods or Merchandise to Ely, New-Marker, or any other place near unto the university of Cambridge, at or about the usual time appointed for Sturbridge Faire, which were but to transfer that Faire to other places, with no less Danger of dispersing the sickness throughout the kingdom. given at Our Court at Warwicke Castle, the twentieth day of August, in the twelfth year of Our reign. 1636. ¶ God save the King. ¶ Imprinted at London by ROBERT BARKER, Printer to the Kings most Excellent majesty: And by the assigns of John BILL. 1636.
