Royal seal I R HONI SOIT QVI MAL Y PENSE Orders set down by the right honourable, Sir John Watts Knight, Lord Maior of this city of London with the consent of the Aldermen his brethren concerning the rates of carriages with carts within this city and Borough of southwark, At the Guild Hall the xxv. day of november. 1606.& the same to continue until the feast of S. michal th'archangell next ensuing. And then to be further considered of as shalbe thought expedient. WHereas, there is, and hath been often complaint made both by Marchants and other Citizens of the excessive Rates demanded and received of Carmen, for exceeding such prices as hath been heretofore set down for carriages within this city and Borough of Southwark, vpon special consideration had as well of former times, as of the times present, wherein the prices of things are risen and enhanced beyond the Rates aforded in times past, it is ordered and decreed by the said Lord Maior and Court of Aldermen, with the consets of the Carmen, that all Carmen trading with Cars within this city& Borough of southwark, shall receive for every carriage or load after these Rates following. Item from any of the wharves between the Tower& London bridge to Towerstreet gracious street, Fanchurch street, Bishopsgate within, and places of like distance from any of the said wharfes up the Hill with xvi. C. weight or under, and for every pack of xx. Clothes vi. pence, and backwards to the said wharfes v. pence. Item from any of the wharfes to the foresaid places or short of the said places for any kind of lading being above xvi. C. weight viii. d. and backwards to the said wharfes, vii. pence And being above xxi. C. waight the merchant to agree with the Carman. Item from any of the foresaid wharfes to Alhallows in the wall, to Lothbury, to the stocks, to the old jury, to Iremonger lane, to walbrooke, and so to Dowgate and other places of like distance or short of the said places being xvi. C. weight and under, viii. pence, and backwards to the said wharfes, vii. pence. Item from any the said wharfes to the foresaid places for any kind of lading above xvi. C. weight and not above xxi. C. x. pence, and backwards to the said wharves, ix. pence. Item from any of the said wharves to cripplegate, the cross in Cheap, Brooks wharf or short of the said places, and beyond the foresaid places for xvi. C. weight and under, ix. pence, and backwards to the said wharf viii. pence. Item from the foresaid wharfes to the foresaid places( that is to say) to cripplegate, the cross in cheap, or Brooks wharf, or any place of like distance, or short of the foresaid places and being above xvi. C. weight, and not above xxi. C. weight, xi. pence, and backward to the said wharfes, x. pence. And for every pack of xx. Clothes backward to any the wharves or keys aforesaid, ix. pence. Item from the foresaid wharves to Smithfield bars, Hoshorn bridge& Fleet bridge being xvi. C. and under, xii. pence, and backward to the said wharfes x. pence. Item from any of the foresaid places wharves to Temple bar, or holborn bars, or any of the bars on the north side of the city,& of the like distance or short of the said places& beyond the foresaid places, fourteen pence, and backward to the said wharfes, twelve pence. And going beyond the foresaid places the Marchants to agree with the Carman. Item from the 3. Cranes wharf, queen heath,& Brooks wharf, between London ston, and Ludgate or to any place of like distance with Carriage up the Hill with xvi. C. weight or under, or with 3. hogdsheads of wine, vi. pence,& back ward to the said wharfes v. pence. And from the same wharves or any of them to any the like places with above xvi. C. weight to xxi. hundreth weight and under, ix. pence, and backward to the said wharf viii. pence. Item from any of the said wharfes to Leaden Hall, London bridge foot, Bishopsgate, Moregate, aldermanburic, cripplegate, Aldersgate, or to any place of like distance with xvi. hundreth weight or under, viii. pence, and backward to the said wharfes seven pence. And from the said wharfes to any of the said places with above sixteen hundreth weight to twenty one hundreth weight eleven pence, and backward to the said wharfes x. pence For Carriage of sea-coal. Item from any of the wharves between London bridge,& the Tower, to tower street Fanchurch street, Grations street, Aldgate, or to any place of like distance, or shorter by the load, vii d. Item from any of the said wharefs to Bishopsgate, Alhallows in the wall, Lothbury the stocks, Walbrook, old jury& Dowgate or to any place shorter of the same like distance. ix. d. Itēfrō any of the foresaid wharves to Morgate& Ludgate, or to any place of like distance, xii. d. Item from any of the said wharfes to any place being without the Gates and within the bars appertaining to this city, fourteen pence. Rates in and out of southwark. Item from S. Mary Oueryes dock to the further end of Barmondsey street to blackman street, or to horsey down with xv C. weight or under, backward or forward x. pence. Item from the place aforesaid to any of those places before mentioned, or to places of like distance, backward or forward, being xv. C. and not above xxi. C. weight, twelve pence. Item from S. Mary overies dock so far as Saint Georges church, or to place of like distance with xv. C. weight or under, backward or forward, viii. pence. Item from S. Mary overies dock so far as S. Georges church or to any place thereabouts of like distance with above xv. C. weight& not above xxi. C. weight backward or forward, x.d. Item from S. Mary overies dock so far as the Counter in southwark, or to any place of like distance or short of the said places with xv. C. weight or under forward or backward, vi pence Item from Saint Mary overies dock so far as the Counter aforesaid or any place of like distance with above xv. C. weight and under xxi. C weight backward or forward. viii. pence. Item from Cheker wharf, Mores wharf, Skinners wharf or any other wharves between the bridge and pickleherring with any carriage to Barmonsey street or long lane in Southwark, Blackman street Kent street or any place of like distance with xv. C weight or under xii. pence. Item from the places aforesaid to S. Georges church or on this side Barmonsey street, or to any place of like distance backward or forward, x. pence. Item from any of the wharves aforesaid to ston bridge, the Counter in southwark or on London bridge or places of like distance with xv. C. waight or under backward or forward, viii. d. Item, for carriages of Kentish or Essex wood from the wharfes between the coheir and London bridge by the loads according to the rates aforesaid! In like manner for carriage of Kentish or Essex wood from the wharf above the bridge by the loads according to the rates aforesaid. God save the King.
