And now first Imprinted Anno. 1563. ¶ The Treasure of gladness. SAith the prophet: Ose 1● Take these words with you, when you turn unto that lord, and say unto him: O forgive us all our sins, receive us graciously, as for the works of our hands, we will no more call vpon, for it is thou that arte our god, thou showest mercy unto the fatherless. John 14 Saith Christ: If ye ask ought of the father in my name, it shalbe given you. ask and haue, seek and Mat ●7 find, knock, and it shalbe opened unto you. The prayer. O most merciful God,& loving father: I beseech thee for thy son Christs sake hear my prayer. O receive me graciously,& forgive me all my sins: and from henceforth give me thy holy angel to conduct me: And strengthen me with these virtues: to withstand the devill, the world, and the appetites of the sinful flesh these armours, the grace of thy holy spirit, the mighty virtue. O writ in my heart thy holy word, thy law,& commandments put vpon me the breast plate of righteousenesse, direct my life,& conversation according to thi gospel of peace give me the shield of faith to fight against sin, and desperation, the helmete of health unto my salvation, through the merites of thy dearly beloved son Iesus Christ, the which liveth,& reigneth god with thee,& the holy ghost in glory. O Lord god merciful Father the author,& governor of all creatures, the giver of al wisdom, I poor wretched sinner beseeching thee for thy sons Christes sake, that thou wilt vouchsafe to poure vpon me thy holy spirit, to work in my mind, hart& soul, thy will& pleasure to do at all times: so that I may walk in this world to thy honor, professinge vnfaynedly, the gospel of thy son,& wlake according thereafter, unto my salvation, through the merits of thy son my lords and saviour Iesu christ the which is with thee in heaven glorified. O lord god, father, for thy son Christes sake haue mercy vpon me& forgive me al my sins,& from henceforth take from me all rancour, and swellinge of my hart,& creat in me a new spirit, an nought heart, such a heart as may fear thy rigorous judgement, a heart to lament my vnkindenesse,& sinful life. O lord give me such an hart as may love,& fear thee above al things, such an heart as alway trusteth in thee, such an heart as may pa●ciently bear thy correction yea such an hart as may praise and thank thee, O lord god, father, son& holy ghost? Amen The second part. As concerning my body: Gen 1. 13 that I bequeath unto the earth from whence it came. Eccl 40 My confession. I knowledge, and confess with al my hart, that I am a sinner, yea such a sinner as hath need of the grace mercy, and favour of God. My faith joined with hope. I believe, that the lord will haue mercy vpon me: for he hath first made me,& Gen 2 if it shal please him he may save me, This I believe, whether I live, or dy: I am the lords. My Hope. I hope that I shall find both grace& mercy for my sins of God the father even for Iesu Christs sake: in him I believe, he is my redeemer: he liveth ever, and ever. He maketh intercession Rom 8 for sinners. So this I know that now John 2 I am a corruptible body, but I hope through Christ to rise an in corruptible body, Now a mortal body: but through Christ and his merites, I hope to haue an immortal body. now an earthly body: i Cor 13 then a heavenly body. For as many as shalbe saved Math 13 shal shine in the kingdom of God: as bright as the sun, this my faith& hope I lay up in my mind the mind of my soul trusting only to be saved through the merites of Iesu Christ god Marci 16 & man, which is in heaven. From whence we look a gain, the which shal change our vile body,& make it like his own most glorious body: Phi ● where by he is able to subdue al things unto himself. O Christ haue mercy vpon me, thou hast redeemed me, O christ save me. Say I will the creed. ¶ I believe in God &c. John. 17. 1. Cor 8. THe glass, wherein we should behold our in firmities proceeding to us orygynally of our natural father Adam. He first brought sin in Gen 3 to this world: In so much that sin, and death went Rom 5 over al men, as saith the prophet Psa 52 Ephe ● david: we are conceived in sin. And wee are born into this world, the children of wrath, fulfilled job 14 with much misery:& haue but a short time to live. Earth we are, and to the Gen ● earth we shal turn again. All flesh is as grass, and Esa 40 the glory of man is as the floure of the grass. And also great travails Eccl 40 are created for al men, from the day that they go out of their mothers belly, till the time that they bee buried in the earth, the mother of all things. We are all sinners, unclean, Esa 6● Eccl 7 unrighteous. Not one just vpon the earth that doth good and sinneth not. And when we are departed Eccles 9 out of this world, there is no remedy for our salvation of any thing that may be done. The prophet david Psalm 49 saith. No man may deliver his brother from hel, neither make agreement unto God for him. We now may clearly se in what case al mankind is in naturally, al sinful, infected by nature unto the dying of the soul and body: and snared always with the snares of our enemy the devil, the world, and the flesh. This is the mortal battle, the which taketh us captives into that sorrowful prison of hell. where the worms of torment mat ● never die, and the fire never goth out. And there continually, Apo 2● to remain in everlasting damnation, in that woeful second death. O vain man, O most miserable, o earth, a shes, dust, O vain beauty, O vain proud hart, o worldly covetous mind, O worldly glory, O gold& money, O what profiteth all the pleasures of this world? youth, beauty, riches, lands, rents, friends, polling, falsehood, wrong gotten goods, sumptuous buyldinges, curious apparel,& costlye fare, or long time in this world living viciously& dy ungodly. Now se then all the glory of this world whereto it hath,& doth bring al mankind, even into the everlasting fire of Hell, with the great rich man spoken of in the gospel. Therfore Luke 1● love not the world, nether the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the father is not in him, for all that is in the world, is the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes,& the pride of life, which is not of the father, but of the world. The world passeth away,& the lusts there of: but he that john ● fulfilleth the will of god, bideth for ever, saith John. Lay from you the old man, which mars himself through deceuable lusts. Ephe 4 And again he saith: who so is godly, holdeth himself content with that he hath. This saith good council, Rom 1● the holy scriptures for our comfort are written, turn unto the lord Ioel 11. thy God, for he is gracious and merciful, great in compassion, long suffering, and redy to parddn wickedness. S●ke the lord while he Esa 55 may be found, call vpon him while he is nigh. S●y not, tush the mercy Eccles. ● of the lord is great, he shal forgive me my sins, and they never so many. But truly as he is merciful, so goeth wrath from him. Therefore make no taryyng, tou●ne to the lord, and put not of from d●ye, to day, Therefore forsake thy sins, and pray that thy sins may be forgiven E●cl 11 thee. To repent is the gift of god. It is the loving kindness Rom ● of god that leadeth to repentance. Godly sorrow causeth repentance, 2 Cor 5▪ but worldly sorrow causeth death. When ye turn unto the Osie▪ ● Lord your god, say. O forgive us all our sins, receive us graciously: As for the works of our hands, we will call no more vpon. The Confession of the penitent sinner, conceived through faith, joined with a strong hope in Christes merites. Christ is he that defendeth Psa 3 his people,& blesseth them. Christ is our saving Psal 18 health and sanctifier. Christ is he in whom Psal 22 alone our fathers trusted, and he delivered them. Christ is gentle, blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Christ is he, even the Psa 34 lord with whom is mercy and plenteous redemption. He is a true god, and Psa. 119 a living god, and an everlasting king. Who so●u●r forsaketh him, shall be confounded& cursed: but blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Christ is the lord, the Iere 17 very con●uites of the water of life. He is the son that is born, and given unto us, vpon his shoulders shall the kingdom lie, he shall be called with his own name, the wondrous giver of councils, the mighty god, the everlasting father the Prince of peace. Our righteous maker, Iere 23 as he saith by the Prophet, I am even he that for my own sake, taketh away Esa 4● thine offences. I will no more think on them. I will give mine honor Esa 48 to none other. I am the first, and the last. turn unto me all Esa 4● ends of the earth,& be saved I am the true god, and Esa 45 saviour, without me there is none other god. Saith paul, God in time past, diversly and many ways spake unto the fathers by Prophetes, but in these last dayes he hath spoken unto us by his son whom God the father hath made heir of al things. Christ the only begotten Esaie 1● Gen 3 son of God. And sprung of the root of jesse, became man in the womb of the Luke ● Luke ● woman Mary the virgin. And born in Bethelem the lord and saviour, he is the Emanuel, he is the very Esaie. 12 messiah, that is to say, christ, he shall save his people from their sins. John 4 Esaie 61 He preached glad tidings, he bindeth up the wounded heart, he delivereth the captives, he openeth the prison to them that are bound, that he might declare the acceptable year of the lord. Saith Christ, the John 6 Mat 28 words that I speak, is spirit, and life. To me( saieth Christ) is John 3 given al powers in heaven and earth. God so loved the world, that he gave his onely begotten son, that who so ever believeth in him, should not perish, but haue everlasting life. The father spake from Matth 1● heaven, saying: this is my dearly beloved son, hear ye him. Father, this is life everlasting, to know thee John 1● that thou art the true god, and whom thou hast sent, Iesu Christ. WHen Iesus hath spoken Act ● unto them, he was taken up, and a cloud received him from their sight. And while they looked after hi● as he went in the heaven. The reward of sin is Rom. 6 death but the gift of god is everlasting life, by christ our Lord. O wretched man that I Rom. ● am, who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank god through Iesu Christ our Lord. There is no damnation Rom. ●. unto them that are in christ Iesu, which walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit: christ hath made me fre from the law of sin and death. christ is the end of the Rom. 10 lawe unto righteousness: for every one that believeth whether we live or die, we Rom. 14▪ are the lords. God is faithful by whom i Cor 1 we are called unto the felosh●pp of his son Iesus i Cor 1 christ. christ is our wisdom, i Cor 3 righteousness, sanctifienge and redemption Other foundation can no man lay, thē the which is laid: which is Christ. we are gods labourers: ye are Gods husbandry: ye are Gods building. Christ our easter lamb is Cor 3 offered up for vs. Wee are washed, we are i Cor 6 sanctified, we are justified i Cor 8 by our lord Iesus Christ. There is but one god, even the father by whom are all things, and our lord Iesu christ, by whom are all things and wee by him. Christ is the spiritual rock i Cor ● of whom our fathers eat, i Cor ● and drank of. No man can say that Christ is the lord, but by the holy ghost. Christ gave himself for Gala ● our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, we believe to be made righteous by the Gala 2 faith of christ, and not by the deeds of the lawe, I cast not away the grace of God. In Colos. ii Christ is hid all the treasures of wisdom and know ledge. In christ dwelleth all the Colos. ii fullness of the godhead bodily. Christ our lord is our hope. Christ hath delivered us from the wrath to come. We obtain salvation by the means of Iesu Christ ●. I cam into the world to Luke 9 save that was lost( saieth christ) for this is a true i Tim 1 saienge and by al means worthy to be received, that Christ Iesus came into the world to save sinners. Christ is the only medyatour i Tim 2 between god and vs. He hath given himself a raunsom for all men. Christ hath taken away 2 Tim 1 the power of death: and brought life and immortality. God loved us:& hath sent his son into this world that we might live through him Christ hath made the agreement 1. John. 4 for our sins. It is the spirit of god that 1. John. 4 confesseth christ to come in the flesh. It is the spirit of error that denieth 1 John. 4 christ to come in the flesh We know that the son 1. John. ● of God is come▪ and that he hath given us a mind to know him, which is true God hath spoken unto us Heb 2 by his son, whom he hath made heir of all things, by whom also he made the world. he hath purged us from Heb 2 all sins in his own person, and now sitteth on the high majesty. Heb ● He hath tasted death for all men.
