An Abstract of the Forfeitures and Penalties set and imposed on Offences done contrary to the Act of Parliament, for Paving and Cleansing the Streets. 1. ALL House-keepers on every Wednesday and Saturday, are to Cleanse and Sweep the Streets, Lanes, &c. before their respective Houses, Buildings and Walls, on the Penalty of iii s. and iv d. for every Default. 2. No Person must presume to throw, cast or lay, or cause, permit, or suffer any Sea-Coal-Ashes, Dust, Dirt, Dung or Filth to be laid in any Street, Lane or Alley, on the Penalty of v s. for every Offence, nor before the Houses or Walls of any other Person, nor before any Church or Church-yard, nor before any of their Majesties palaces or Buildings, nor into any Common or Private sure, Sink, Vault or Water-course; but must keep the same in their respective Houses, until the Raker comes to carry away the same, on the Penalty of xx s. for every Offence. 3. No Person shall hoop, wash or cleanse any Pipes, Barrels or other Vessels in the Streets, Lanes, Alleys, &c. nor shall set out Dung, Rubbish or empty Coaches to make or mend, or rough Timber or ston to be sawn or wrought in the Streets, &c. on the Penalty of xx s. for every Offence. 4. Every House-keeper is to keep the Pavement before his Door, so far as the Denter-Stone or middle of the Street, in good repair; and the Proprietors of all empty Houses are to do the like, so far as their Houses extend, on the Penalty of xx s. for every Perch or Rod, and xx s. for every Week it shall continue unrepaired. And the House-keepers and Proprietors of Houses, in all new Streets, which shall be ordered by the Sessions to be paved, shall Pave and Amend the same so far as their respective Houses extend, on pain to forfeit xl s. for every Perch they shall refuse to Pave and Amend. 5. Every House-keeper whose House adjoins to the Street, from Michaelmas to Ladyday, is to hang out on the outside of his House lantern and Candle from the time it's Dark until Twelve of the Clock at Night( except such as use the Lamps of any sort to be placed at such distance as two Justices shall approve of) on the Penalty of Two Shillings for every Neglect. 6. Every Truss of Hay from the last Day of August to the first Day of June, is to contain 56 pound Weight, and every Truss of new Hay from the first Day of June to the last Day of August, is to contain 60 pound Weight; and all Persons bringing or offering Hay to Sale, forfeit xviii d. for every Truss wanting of that Weight. 7. No Person must stand with his Cart to sell Hay from Michaelmas to Ladyday, after Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, and from Ladyday to Michaelmas after Three of the Clock, on the Penalty of five Shillings for every Offence. 8. The Wheels of every Cart, Carr, and Dray, used about the Streets, are to be six Inches in the Felleys, and are not to be wrought about with Iron; and no Cart, Carr, or Dray, is to be drawn with above two Horses, after they are up the Hills from the Water-side, on the Penalty of xl s. 9. No Person shall keep any Swine in any place where the Streets are paved, on the Penalty of forfeiting the same.
