All Praise and Glory be given to GOD alone. THese are to certify all whom it may concern, that the ever famous Physician Gilbert Anderson, hath traveled through the most part of the known World, in search of the most rate Secrets of physic and Chirurgery, during 35 years, 12 whereof he spent in the quality of Chirurgeon to a Ship in the Wars of Candia, in which time he never made a Voyage without fighting, and yet was so happy in his undertaking, that he never dismembered any Man, neither did any die under his Cure of their Wounds: But on the contrary, he Cured many that were to have been dismembered by others. He can speak indifferently the Language of the Turks, Moors, Italians, Spaniards, Portugals, French, Dutch, Swedes, and Danes. And for the truth of his great skill in physic and Chirurgery, he hath inserted the three following Certificates, and could have done many more, but that he thought these sufficient to convince any reasonable Person. St. GILES in the Fields Certificate. WE the Rector, Church wardens, and others, ancient Inhabitants of the Parish of St. Giles in the Fields, in the County of Middlesex, whose names are subscribed, do certify, that Mr. Gilbert Anderson ( during the space of Eighteen Months now last past that he hath resided here) hath( by Gods Blessing) performed many em●nent Cures upon the Sick, Lame, and Diseased, to his great commendations: And we never heard that any of the Patients which he undertook to Cure either missed of Cure, or Died, by reason of any miscarriage of his Cure. For which miraculous operation and his singular Charity to the Poor, We humbly conceive him to be very deserving of employment in physic and Chirurgery, by those who shall have occasion to make use of him. Witness our Hands the 18th day of April, 1673. Nathaniel Stratton Henry Hobgood Church-wardens. CONGAL in Sweden Certificate. WE the Burgomasters and Councellors of the City of Congal, do make known unto all Men, that the Bearer hereof, an honest, and respectful person, Doctor and physician, Gilbert Anderson, Inhabitant bear in Congal, has in Two Years time since he came here, through God's Providence, Cured many persons both here and in Gottenburg and Melstrand; as likewise in many other places in the said Countries, to the great admiration of us, and all others here living; likewise this aforesaid Doctor hath kept himself in an honest, sober, and godly life: And by reason he hath resolved to travail to Denmark or elsewhere, as God and Fortune shall be pleased to call him, he hath desired this our Certificate for safety in his Travels, which we not only willingly have granted him; but likewise our respective desires with our Prayers to persons of what rank, quality or condition they may be, that this abovesaid Doctor do make his appearance before: And that they for God's sake and our sakes will be pleased to look upon him with an Eye of assistance, and to let him, without any let or molestation, pass and repass by Sea and Land: And in so doing, we shall be obliged in any such manner, to you all, if any of you with the like honesty and civility appear before us. Whereunto we have put our Town Seal of Congal the 18th of September, 1665. St Botolph without Aldgate Certificate. WE the Church Wardens of the Liberty of East-Smithfield, in the Parish of St. Botolph without Aldgate in the County of Middlesex, whose Names are hereunto subscribed, do hereby certify all Persons whom it may concern, That Mr. Gilbert Anderson Doctor, during the space of 15 Months and upwards now last past, hath by Gods Providence performed many eminent Cures, upon the sick, lame, and diseased, both in this Parish and elsewhere, to the great admiration of us all and hath also kept himself in an honest, sober, and Godly Life, neither have we heard that any of the Patients which he undertook to cure, either missed of cure, or dyed by reason of any miscarriage of his Medicines: For which wonderful and miraculous Operation, and his singular Charity to the poor, we humbly conceive him to be very deserving of Employment both in physic and Chirurgery, by any one who shall have occasion to make use of him. Witness our Hands, the 30th day March, 1679. Duell Pead, Minister. Thomas friar Church-Warden. Henry Fletcher Church-Warden. He hath no Remedies that Cure all Diseases, for it is only God alone that Cures, or his Messenger Death that ends all Diseases; but he hath for each several Disease its proper Remedy; as for instance; he has a Remedy for the Ague which Cures it by one dose the price 2s 6d; another for the Rheum that falls from the Head on the Teeth, which Cures them in one hour, price 2s 6d; and one also for hollow Teeth, or the Worm as some call it, which Cures it in one hour, price 1s; and if the Face be swelled as big as ones Head with the pain thereof, he hath an Ointment which Cures it in 24 hours, price 1s; and a Remedy that Cures the Kernels under the Ears in 48 hours, if they were swelled as big as ones fist, and the party in a hot burning fever, price 5s; and a Remedy that cureth the black and blue Marks got by Blows, in 48 hours, price 1 s 6 d, and a pill that Cures the colic or gripping of the Guts, in one hour, price 1 s, and a p●aister that cureth all pains in the Body, gotten by Falls, Strains, Bruises, or Colds, but especially in the Back and Sides in three days, price 5 s, it Cures the Sciatica, or Hucklebone-gout, in a wonderful short rhyme. Hhe has also a Remedy against Childrens Fits, whosoever makes use of it will never be troubled with Fits, he has cured Babes of 3 weeks old of the Ague, and all other curable distempers in an admirable short time. It is too tedious to writ every particular, as ston and Gravel and all other Distempers but whoever makes use of him shall find him faithful to admiration. He gives B●lls with directions how to use every thing. He desires you to take notice, that he does not pretend to cure infallibly all Diseases, for no judicious Physician will pretend to that, it belonging to God alone; but he promises in the presence of Almighty God and the holy Host of Heaven, not to undertake the cure of any, but such as he has good hopes( and grounds to believe) are curable by him. As to his Experience and Knowledge in Physic, he dares venture his Life to perform as great cures as any man, he not having hitherto been outdone by any Physician in Europe; and yet he confesses that the best Doctor may sometimes( though very seldom, except when the Patient's appointed Time is come) fail; and he has known ignorant persons in Physic and Chirurgery perform some Cures by accident, when very able Doctors have failed. He hath lived ever since 1665, in the parish of St. Martins in the Fields, and St. Giles in the Fields, where the ablest Doctors of all Nations converse, who have thought it no disgrace, both here and abroad, to ask his advice in difficult matters, and have found it good to admiration. He Cures all Distempers incident to Men, Women and Children, if Curable, and though he dares not presume to pretend to Infallibility, that being the Almighty's Prerogative, yet if there be any infallible Remedy, he assures you they are to be had from him( God having always been graciously pleased in an extraordinary manner to bless his weak endeavours) for he hath Cured such as have languished under the Evil 18, nay 25 years, in less than two Months; and the FRENCH-POX with all its Accidents, as swelling of the Cods and Groin, Running of the Reins, Ulcers in the Yard or Throat, falling away of the palate, largeness in the Grisse-bone of the Nose, Sores and Pimples over the whole Body have been cured by him in less than three Weeks, and for the cure of this Distemper he invites the ablest Physician of what Kingdom soever, to wager Life or Goods( for he will venture either) to perform it sooner and safer, if the Patient will but keep his Directions, which are so easy that a new born Child, if it had but sense enough, might observe them; through Gods blessing not having yet met with his equal. He hath Cured such as have been troubled with the ston thirty years in 9 days. He has been as successful in all other Distempers, which are too many to particularise. Such Persons( whether Sea men or serving-men) as desire to have either inward physic or outward Medicaments, ready by them, upon all occasions, may( upon giving him two or three days notice) be furnished by him, with Dir●ctions how to take or apply them; which shall be so excellent in their kind, that he dares engage they shall do as much good in one Week, as what another may give shall do in 3 Months; for he having traveled most Countries, has learned by Experience, what physic is proper for each Climate. Be not scrupulous in observing times, lest you provoke God to wrath, for with him all seasons are proper for restoring his people to Health. If any good honest Man have a well educated Son, that he would have instructed in Physic, this Doctor is willing upon any reasonable Terms to undertake it, and make him equal with the best of Outlandish Physicians. From his House at the lower End of Cross-Street in Hatton-Garden, near the Cradle and Coffin, and next door but one to a Carpenters yard, and right over against a Meal Shop; where he may be spoken with any convenient hour of the Day.
