Courteous Reader, THE Consideration of the many grand Evils, Inevitably happing to most, that unfortunately engage in Venereal Pleasures; and then through shane, want of Conveniency, Tenderness of Reputation; or otherwise, through Terror of undergoing the many Cruel, Loathsome, Tormenting ways of Cures generally Used. And others hereby Having a Knowledge how Deplorable a Contagion it is, may reject all Enormous Provocations, to that on which such dangers attend: As is the Candid intent herein of thy Really well-Wisher P. B. March 10. 1669. SUch is the excellency of these Antipudendagrian Pills, that they only work agreeable to nature, as it is disposed, exceeding gently by Sweat, Urine, and Stool,( so as none need hinder their occasions, keeping but warm when they take them) dissolving, destroying, and evacuating all fermented, putrid humours, and matter, throughout all the parts of the body, purifying the whole body and humours, in such manner, as all Swellings, pustules, Sores, or Ulcers, resolve, cleans, dries, and heals, by the benefit of nature, being kept clean. They open all obstructions of the Liver, Spleen, Womb, Reins, &c. So, as for above this 12. Years experience of them in Europe and India, hath been Cured most effectually, not only this most grand Evil, the French Disease, and Virulent Running of the Reins,( which is one and the same Disease, as is declared in the Chapters of signs of the French Disease) but also all Diseases arizing of Putrefaction, Fermentation, or Obstruction( if curable) as the Scurvy, Green-sickness, all Diseases of worms which proceed of Putrefaction. All Itches, which arise by Firmentation of Humors, and such like, &c. CHAP. I. The Name, definition, Original Production, Cause, Manner of Infecting, and Cure of the French-Disease. THis name, Pudendagra, or Genital Contagion, I presume, is most genuine being of the place of it's Nativity, and the same I always met withal in the Indies, in their Languages: From whence I conceive it first Navigated by some trusty Trogians in Columbus his time, Linscho. History, the East and West Indies. for Europe, Anno 1492. where as Linschotin does relate it, is called by the Tovoupinam Boultiers Piaus. page. 262. Then that all may know this American Neapolitan, fascistious Monsieur, ab Origine, by its definition, cause, and manner of infecting, whereby to avoid it, as others by its signs admonished to seek its present remedy. It is a venomous fermental infection of the whole Substance( alias formality) of the body, for the most part gotten by contagious Vapours. Miasms, seizing and flowing through the Pores, into the liquid and solid parts of the Genitals, and thence dispersing into the several parts of the whole Body. By most Authors, Fernel parius. conceived originally to arise of occult causes,( none as yet declaring how) but by God's just judgement punishing human frailty; or rather, I conceive permissive just judgement punishing inhuman pusillanimity, or both. But by some, Fior avantus. supposed from the putrefaction of Seed, or humors in the Womb of an Anthropophagian courtesan, generated from aliment of devoured mans flesh. But if the nature thereof be truly considered, the formal faculty of parts, and the difference betwixt Firmentation, and Putrefaction, &c. Then I cannot from thence conceive any reason for its production. By others, Wallaeus. from the property of the Amboyne Water, and air. But I rather conceive the infection was transported thither, as hither; the Spaniards making their Voyages from West-India thither. By others, by Fascination, Fernel. as may be, possibly, by Diabolical preternatural means. By others, Paul of ●●idleb. Paracel. by a siderial rape of Astral influences. By others by a Lepers accompanying with a Noble courtesan in Spain, Foresius. &c. But I rather, as most rational, and probably true, Authors Opinion. ( though a paradox) conceive its original production, not from any of the above said or occult causes( considering the distinction betwixt life, which is light, and by the inherent power of the spirit of God therein, the life of all things,( except Man, who lives by a Superior only, viz. his Soul) and Form, which is but a product thereof in every kind; otherwise how could it remain after death of the compound, which is a deprivation of life, the effects remaining until the resolution of the Body into matter, to the production of new forms thereof. As also the formal faculties of parts; And the difference betwixt Fermentation, in which is a promotion of Form; and Putrefaction, in which is a solution of forms.) But from a Ferment of Seed of a Creature wholly different in kind, and formally repugnant to human formality, in the Womb of a most impious Diabolical American, and thence communicated to posterity in Coition by contagious Miasms proceeding thereof, Vapours. insinuating through the Pores, into the liquid and solid parts of the Genitals, and commixing with their excrementitious humors, and thence through their formal activity, by access of native heat and spirits, according to the malignity of the received Contagion, the Bodies infirmity or sanity, Cacochymie, or Eucrassie, more or less infecting the whole Body, and in that state rendering such alike infectious to most persons, that in any kind either lie with them, immediately succeed them on a Close-stool, suck, or sucle, or any ways happen to communicate of any contagious pollutions from them. And is most truly cured by this its specific Antidote( benevolent to nature) energically altering, resolving, Vapours. and insensibly evacuating all contagious Miasms, and matter infecting to a perfect recovery of pristine health. As in the fourth Chapter following. CHAP. II. Signs Primarily in Men, Discovering the French Disease. THis Contagious Genital attendant of Venereal pleasures is no sooner contracted, but these inevitable symptoms or signs, gradually inform the parties Diseased, of their misfortunate encounters, who are no sooner infected, but accosted with some, most, or all these morbisick arrests. First, a slothful lassitude, and soreness of all the Limbs; unusual aversion to Venery; Nocturnal Disturbances; with a general indisposition of the whole Body and mind; pain, hardness and swelling in the groins; a more than ordinary feverish heat and dryness of the palms of the Hands; painful pustules breaking out on the Temples, and Forehead: sometimes upon a very impure copulation follows an inflammation, and swelling of the perpuse and glance. And if it tend to a virulent gonorrhoea, ●… he Run●… g of the ●… eins in Men. as is most common, there ensues a Venereal priapisme stimulating to Venery, a diasuria or stoppage, heat, pain, and sharpness of Urine, matter flowing by drops at the Yard, a cord or exstream pain upon erection, as if a string were stretched alongst the nether part thereof, through ulceration of the parastata and uritary passage, caused by the malignity of the virulent flowing matter, &c. CHAP. III. Signs Primarily in Women, discovering the French Disease. THey are the same as in Men, except some peculiar to their Sex: as a slothful lassitude and soreness of all the Limbs; unusual avertion to Venery; Nocturnal disturbances, with a general indisposition of the whole Body and mind; discoulered Flowers; a more than ordinary Feverish heat, and dryness of the palms of the Hands; painful pustules breaking out on the Temples and Forehead; pain, hardness, and swellings in the groin, &c. And also, The running of the Reins in Women. if it tend to a virulent gonorrhoea, as is most common, there ensues a Feminine priapism or hardness and stiffness of the clytoris, stimulating to Venery; a diasuria, or heat, pain, and sharpness of Urine; matter flowing as in Men, exulterating the Neck of the Womb, which many suppose, or pretend, to be the Whites, &c. CHAP. IV. Medicinal, Directions, showing how to take the Pills for Cure of the French D seize. FIrst, As in Chap. 2. if there be the aforesaid( Cord in men) inflammation of the Genitals foreness, or exstream pains in either Sex, or that the parties be young and full of blood, it is necessary a day or two before the first taking of the Pills, to let blood, and then take them as followeth: Every third or fourth Day, if a strong-bodied Man, or Woman, and that the infections& pains be great, take three or four at a time, if a weak-bodied Man or Woman, and that the infection and pains be slite, two or three in a little Syrup of Violets in the Mornings, about three or four of the Clock; and drink a draft of very warm Posset-drink made with White-wine after; and cover warm to a breathing sweat, until Eight or Nine of the Clock, or that you find them begin to work, when, repeat your Posset-drink, after every Stool as they work, which exceeds not Four or Five times, if so oft, and keep warm all that Day following. A while after they have done working( after-noon) eat moderately some Panada, Rice-meat. water-gruell, Conjy, or such like. And let your Drink be the smallest Ale, always warmed with a Nutmeg Toast, very sparing taken. At Nights when you are in Bed, drink half a pint of White-wine Posset-drink, as warm as you can, and cover warm as before, all Night to a breathing sweat. The next, one or two Dayes intermitting: if the weather be warm, you may follow occasions, until the third or fourth Day, you take them again until perfect recovery. Forbear all drinking, more than just satisfies nature; all salt, course, and high-seasoned meats; Oysters, all shellfish, and Swines Flesh. And eat any other meats that are easy of digestion, and not excrimentitious, as you please: as roasted Chickens, Necks of Mutton, Rabits, Fowles, Rice-meats, Panadoes, and such like. Take no Tobacco, and associate rather in a Coffee-House, then at Taverns or Ale-Houses; drink Tee, aromatic, or Coffee: which practise most punctually followed, will in a short time put a period to your Disease. Each Box of Pills are to be sold but at 5. shillings a Box. The more curious may be directed to the Author, from any of the places where the Pills are Sold. Vale. POST-SCRIPT. MAny approbations of the excellent Cures done by these Pills; did not the indissolvable obligation of secrecy deny, might be instanced: yet something thereof in India upon the Inhabitants, I may presume to declare, being my experience there. Having the principalest Grandees of the Country, in the Isle of Celebes at Maccassar, my Patients, I was sent for by Crayn Summanna, the King's Uncle,( whom before I had cured of a Cancer) to a Buggise King, Highland. who had an Ulcer on the right Scapula, the which, with no great difficulty, I cured, and as I supposed, took my Ultimum Vale of him. But about seven Dayes after, God save you. I was saluted from him with a Tabya, and great complaint of an extraordinary itching, at some distance round about the siccatrize, with a pain and swelling in the groins, nocturnal disturbances, frontall extuberances tending to exulceration feverish heat, and dryness of the palms of the Hands, &c. And the next Day importuned to give him a Visit; with whom, upon a strict inquiry in the Malayan Tongue, I perceived his Distemper to be the Sochynia Pokey, Disease Womans Pudendale. which is the same as Pudendagria, or Genetal Disease, and thereupon proceeded in a rational Cure, by these Antipudendagrian Pills, who in Sixteen Dayes was perfectly recovered. Never-the-less, all the time he forbore not Quotidian Bathing, though desired the contrary; yet by persuasion in tepid water, whereas at first he used could, it being customary there, the Country lying under the Equinox.
