HAving taken notice of several Distempers which have of late years been very Epidemical, as gripping of the Guts, Consumptions and Aguish Fe●vers, which may much be imputed to the unadvised drinking of Scurvey-Grass Ale, Beer or Juice, by reason it leaves such could earthy, greenish, undigested phlegmatic slime behind in the stomach, that several the year following repented the taking so humoursome a putrefying drink; for it is far more fit to be cast to the dunghill, then taken into the Stomach. And to make people more fond of it, they put in Jallop and Scamony, two Drugs( and uncorrected) so powerful to open and gripe the body, that many having taken such Colds, which have thickened that slimy phlegmatic matter at the Stomach, that not long after Violent fevers, gripping in the Stomach and Guts, shortness of Breath, and deep Consumptions hath apparently followed. For take a quart of their drink, and let it stand twelve hours, and at the bottom you shall find a heavy, greenish, shmy, putrefying settling, which taken into the body, is a sure Foundation for most desperate distempers.
