THE prophecy OF Thomas Becket, Arch-Bishop of Canterbury In the Reign of King HENRY the Second; Concerning the Wars betwixt England France, and Holland; Lately found in an ancient Manuscript at Abington, by Dr. Ailsworth; and by him sent as a Rarity to the University of OXFORD. With the Interpretation and judgement of divers of the Learned Masters, Presidents, and Principals of colleges, touching the great things foretold in the following Particulars. London, Printed for G. Freeman, Anno, 1666. The strange prophecy. Honoured Sir, I Have here sent you a prophesy, the truth whereof time it s probably may produce,& that I hope, to the comfort of all his Majesties Loyal Subjects. The said prophesy was lately found in Abington, in a Manuscript there by Dr. Ailsworth, and by him sent as a Rarity to the University of Oxford. And the Heads of several Houses, viz. the Masters, Presidents, Principals, &c. have given their judgement of it; amongst others, Dr. Tully, President of Edmond-Hall , who sent down a Copy of it in a Letter of his dated Jan. 26. last to Mr. Yates, B. D. my Neighbour, from whom I transcribed this verbatim. By Lilium, they all unanimonsly conceive may be meant France, the lilies being the Arms of it. By lo, Holland, that being its Arms. By Aquila, the Emperour of Germany, that being his. And, which is the chief thing, by Filius hoins, the King of England, being deciphered by Ferens feras in brachiis,& cujus regnum est in terra Lanae. By Caput Mundi, the Turk or Pope, as followeth in the prophecy. The Marks you have accordingly, as they were sent to Mr. Yates by the said Doctor Tully. W. LITTLETON, Minister of the Gospel.
