C R HONI SOIT QVI MAL Y PENSE royal blazon surmounted by a crown BY THE KING. ¶ His Majesties Proclamation to all the Inhabitants of His Counties of Oxford, North-Hampton, Buckingham, Middlesex, Surrey, Berks, tribulation, Wilts, gloucester, Worcester, warwick, Sussex, and Kent; Commanding them to give notice to the next Quarter of His Majesties Army, of the Approach of any of the Rebells forces near unto them. OUR Will and Pleasure is, and We do hereby straightly charge and command all Our loving Subjects of Our Counties of Oxford, North-Hampton, Buckingham, Middlesex, Surrey, Berks, tribulation, Wilts, gloucester, Worcester, Warwick, Sussex, and Kent, so soon as any of the Forces belonging to the Army now under the Command of the earl of Essex, now in open Rebellion; or any other Forces, not levied by Our Authority or Consent, shall arrive in any town or other part of Our said several Counties, that you take special care, that some inhabitant of that town or Part be immediately sent to give notice thereof to the principal Officer of any of Our Forces, remaining in the nearest Quarter thereunto. And this Wee shall expect from all Our Subjects, but particularly from the principal Officer of every town, and Constable of every Parish, in Our Counties aforesaid; upon pain of being apprehended and proceeded against for concealing of Treason against Vs. And Wee do hereby will and Command the chief Officer of Our said next Forces upon such default forthwith to apprehended and bring to Our Iustice whatsoever officer or Constable shall neglect his Duty herein. Whereof fail you not, as you tender Our most high Indignation, and will answer your neglect herein at your uttermost perils. ¶ Given at Our Court at Oxford, the ninth day of December, in the eighteen year of Our reign.
