A Comical ELEGY, On the Death of Evan Morgan, Son of shone ap Morgan Shentleman of Wales, who Departed this Life in her Grandmothers Hen Roost, on St. Taffies Day, being the First of March 1700. ATtend you welsh Men, while I do relate, How Taffy fell by sudden cruel Fate, It was her fortune last St. Taffies Day, To sit and muse as many others may; When on a sudden her Death Pangs came on, And in spite of her Plud her life was gone: All welsh Men sure will Mourn, and who can choose, When they do hear this strange unpleasent News: Oh! cruel Fate, what harm has Taffy done, That thou shouldst snatch away his Life so soon; 'tis something hard thou couldst no longer stay, But fetch her hence upon St. Taffies Day; When her was feeding of her Granums Hens, And thought for, her past crimes to make amends: All her he Goates, and Female Kids, will Weep, When they percive that morgan is Asleep: Methinks I see, poor Taffy on his Knees, With Knife in's hand a Toasting of his Cheese; Methinks I see him eat it on a sudden, And swar's it doth exceed our hasty Pudding: Some think a Surfiet did her Vitals Seize, Which was brought on by Eating toasted Cheese'; Yet others say who are of much more Skill, That Leeks and garlic, did poor morgan Kill; He used no physic but the Juice of Leeks, And lived on that same Diate many Weeks; read Herrings too, her thought a samous Dish, And did affirm they were the King of Fish, For better Victuals he did seldom wish: But tho he's Dead, it cannot be denied, Her lived until the very Day her died, But grief prevails and gains upon my Spirits, So that I must pass by his other Merits. Item: In the tarry, one Toasting-sheese, three Oaten Cake, three pint Coat milk, one pound of Cow-putter. Item: In the kitchen, one pan with white cured, two Whitepot, two read Herring, nine Sprat. Item: In the Seller one Firkin of Wiggan, two sour cider, one pint of perrp, one little pottle of Carmarden-Sack, alias Metheglin. Item: In the armoury( of Weapons to kill her Enemy) one pack sword, two Edge, two Welsh hook, three Club, one coun, one Mouse-Trap. Item. In the Garden, one bed garlic, nine Onion, twelve Leek twelve Worm six Frog. Item. in the Lease way, two tun Cow, one Mountain Calf. This Inventory taken Note of in the presence of her own Couzen Rowland Merideth ap Howel, and Lowen in Morgan ap William, in Anno One Thousand Eight Hundred Forty Nine, upon the Ten and Thirtieth of shune. The above-named William Morgan, died when her had lived Threescore and Twenty Years, Thirteen Months, one Week and Seven Days. A Note of some Legacy of a Creat at deal of Coods bequeathed to her Wife and her two Shild and all her Cousens, Friends and Kindred in manner as followeth. Item, Was give to her Eldest Son Plack Shack, Forty and twelve carded to play at Whipper shinny, four Ty( to sheet her Cuzen) besides all her Land to the full value of Twenty and ten shillings and there Groats per Annum. Item. Was give to her second Son little Morgan ap Murgain, her short Ladder under the Wall in the Yard, and two Rope. Item. Was give to her cousin Rowland Mirideth ap h●●el, and Lowen in morgan, who was made her Executor, full power to pay all her tet when her can get money.
