Captain DESBOROW, by his Petition to the Honourable House of Commons, sets forth, That he being Commander of the Mary-Galley, was the last Year, together with Fourteen other Ships, ordered to Newfoundland, under the Command of Captain John Norris. THAT Captain Norris denies Captain Desborow, and his Men, their Shares and Parts of Prizes by them taken near Newfoundland, worth 47000 l. That Captain Norris had an Opportunity of taking Monsieur Ponti, with Five Ships, wherein was Treasure computed worth Eight Millions Sterling; and the said Ships were greatly Disabled for want of Men, Provisions, &c. That the Ship in which Captain Norris Sailed, and other Men of War then under his Command, were so crowded with Prize-Goods, that were removed out of the Prize-Ships, and taken into the Men of War, that they were not able to Fight. That Captain Norris sent into the Streights a Prize-Ship, which he then caused to be Laden with Fish, and Victual'd and Man'd with the King's Men, Stores and Provisions; and that the King's Stores were also expended in Fitting Boats, and Building Stages for Catching Fish, and Curing of Fish. All which is Humbly Submitted, and Offered to be made appear to this Honourable House. THE CASE OF Captain Desborow Against Captain Norris, In Relation to Monsieur Ponti.
