THE miseries and distractions that are now ready to be put in execution are manifold, and the plots and projects that are now hatched by the Malignant party, are ready to take place and possession, insomuch that a Civill war is beginning to play its part in this kingdom, the misery whereof is so great and terrible, and no man knoweth the cruelty, but them that bath had experience of it, God of his great mercy sand a sudden ceslation of them, and bring to ruin those that e●deavour to disturb the peace of the kingdom, yet still doth these rumours of war increase in several Counties of this Realm and more especially in Wiltshire, as may appear in this ensuing Relation: Upon the 19 of this present month of August, there arose many disturbances in the County of Wiltshire, occasioned by these parties that came to put the Commission of Array in execution, and to withstand those Gentlemen that were sent from both Houses of Parliament to see the Ordinance of Parliament performed, and having a meeting together, after some time spent in parley, they not liking of the propositions that each part tendered to one another, there began a sudden fray or combustion together, and having spent the whole day in controversy and debate thereof, they had some blows, wheresome there were hurt, and three or four slain, and then the County coming in with speed, and siding with those that held with the Ordinance of Parliament, they were forced to fly, otherwise they had both taken prisoners, as the earl of Berkshire and divers others are, and praised be the Almighty the whole County in general stands for the Parliament, and are resolved to fight to the uttermost of their power against all those that shall oppose them; and for the cavaliers, they make no question, it being the worst of their fear to make a sudden way with them and to drive and beat them out of their country, which God grant that they and all the rest of the Countries in England may dot the same, not dreading nor fearing all the foes that ever shall come against them, that so this kingdom may flourish in its own glory and prosperity once again. It is credibly reported from Northamtonshire, that the Kings Majesty is come into those parts, and doth ride by and through the Country with some small guard, to know who stands for him, and who does not; some when they see His royal Person cries, For King Charles, For King Charles, but presently when His royal Majesty is gone, then they stand for the Parliament, and indeed it is thought that they do it for fear, for they think that if they should withstand His royal Majesty, that then the cavaliers would come and ransack their houses, They are in a great and terrible perplexity in those parts, by reason that the cavaliers do commit many outrages against them, and do strive and endeavour to ransack their houses, and take all that they find therein from them by violence. And concerning the proceedings in warwickshire, His Majesty is resolved to come thither, and it is supposed that he came thither upon saturday last; the cavaliers in that County do not so much domineer, as they do in other Countries, by reason that there are many that stands in opposition against them; for information being given to both Houses that there were a great many of them, and that they had made many attempts against the Castle of Warwick, and therefore after some time spent in debate thereof, they Ordered, that the Lord brooks should have Forces raised for the securing of the said Castle, which he hath accordingly, and is now marching down with his Forces, together with colonel Hampden, colonel Hollis, colonel Fines, and colonel Goodwin, their Army consisting of about 6000. Horse and Foot, and are resolved to march towards the said Castle, for the preservation thereof against all those that shall feel or endeavour to make any attempts against it, it being supposed that the cavaliers do thirst very much after the same: His Majesty likewise is resolved to come in person to the said town of Warwick, and to desire the surrending up of the same into his custody. From gloucester the House of Commons received Letters, intimating that the Lord Shandois was coming into the said County with an intent to execute the Commission of Array, but the whole County stands for the Parliament, and had like to have took Sir William Swig prisoner, who came to execute the said Commission. Ordered to be forthwith Printed and published. Hen. elsing, clear. Par. D.C.
