WHereas by the Laws and Statutes of this Realm, constituting and appointing the Assize of fuel, It is provided and required, That all Billets and Faggots exposed to Sale, shall contain the dimensions following; that is to say, Every Billet shall contain in length, Three Foot Four Inches; And every Billet name a Single, shall contain in compass, being round bodi'd, Seven Inches and an half; And no Single to be made or marked out of Cleft Wood. And every Billet marked One, commonly called a Cast, to contain in compass, being round, Eleven Inches; And half round, Thirteen Inches; And being quarter Cleft, to contain in compass Twelve Inches and an half. And every Billet marked Two, commonly called Two Cast, to contain in compass, being round, Sixteen Inches: And half round, Nineteen Inches; And being quarter cleft, to contain in compass Eighteen Inches and an half. And all Faggots shall contain in compass, besides the Knot of the Bond, Four and Twenty Inches; And every Faggot-Stick or Bend within the said Bond, to contain in length full Three Foot, except only one Stick or Bend to be One Foot long, to stop or harden the binding thereof. Now the Right Honourable the Lord Mayor of this City of London being informed that notwithstanding the Penalty in that case provided, whereby all unsized fuel is to be seized, as forfeited: And notwithstanding a public Admonition given by Sir Thomas Davies Lord Mayor, in the time of his Mayoralty, that the said Forfeitures should be taken, great Quantities of Billets and Faggots wanting the Assize aforesaid, are continually exposed to Sale within this City and Liberties, to the great deceit and abuse of the Citizens and Inhabitants thereof: His Lordship is resolved to use his utmost Endeavour that the said Laws may hereafter, be within this City, more carefully and duly observed; and hath for that end given strict and positive Orders, That all Billets and Faggots exposed to Sale within this City and the Liberties thereof, that shall be found to want of their due Assize, according to the dimensions aforesaid, shall be seized and disposed of as by the said Laws is appointed. And his Lordship gives this public Intimation of his Resolution herein; to the end all Persons that shall hereafter bring up to this City any Billets or Faggots to be sold, may take care that the same be of the full Assize, and thereby avoid the Penalty in that behalf.
