The Seamen, who ventured their Lives for the Service of their Country, Humbly Beg leave to Offer to this Honourable House the following Three Reasons, FOR Passing( this Sessions) the Bill to Settle the Estates, given to Superstitious Uses, and Settling them upon Greenwich-Hospital, and other Charitable Uses. I. THAT most of the Estates given to, and at present Employed for the Maintenance of Superstition, are so covered by the Trust they are in, that they cannot be reached by Law, though otherwise forfeited to the King, according to former Statutes. II. THAT the Security of the Peace of this Nation depends upon Taking away the Revenues belonging to Priests and Jesuits, and the Seminaries beyond Seas, who daily endeavour to destroy the Protestant Religion. III. BECAUSE, That Money which is now Employed to support Popery, cannot be more Effectually converted to the Security of this Kingdom of England, than by Appropriating it for Encouragement of the Seamen.
