A Tyrall Skill, between Josias Maynard Citizen, and Cutler of London, and Master of the Noble Science of defence at the Bla●k Swan in holborn,& of the House of White-Friers. And William Swinow, alias Scot, Citizen and cook of London, and Master of the Noble Science of defence, of the House of Tower royal. GENTLEMEN, ACcording to the ancient custom heretofore used,& practised in the use of weapons by way of trials of Skill, where the Members of the said two Houses are to play one House against the other, and not to play two Members of one House against one another; Therefore for example sake, and avoiding of such disorder hereafter. I the said Josias Maynard do invite the said William Swinnow, alias Scot, to meet at the Hope on the bank side on monday next being the twenteith of this instant September 1652, between one and two of the Clock in the afternoon at the firthest▪ at these fourteen weapons The Names of the Weapons, Long Sword, Back Sword, Single Rapier, Sword& Dagger, Rapier& Dagger, Sword& Buckler, half Pike, Short Sword and Gauntlet, halberd, Case of Rapiers, Mall, Single falchion, flail, Quarter-staffe, KNOW GENTLEMEN, THat I William Swinnow, alias Scot, shall dare to meet the afore name Josias Maynord if God, ermitt, at the time and place appointed, where accarding to the the ancient custom above mentioned: I shall without question give that content unto all, deserving Spectators as shall bee, both to my credit, and the whole House of Tower royal. GENTLEMEN. If any accident may chance to happen, as you may conjecture easily may be, in playing of so many weapons; there shall be as formerly mentioned, Bengimon Dobson, and Francis Burgis, Professors of the Noble Science of defence, ready to perform what shall be wanting in my Person. Thus desiring nothing more then a clear stage& from him no favour. God preserve the Commonwealth of England.
