Gentlemen,

-L HE Royal Proclamation having announced that the Writs for calling a new Parliament
hare been issued, I feel It necessary, according to my promise, to address you more at large than I did in my advertisement of
the 9th June, which has continued to appear in the Gazette and the other public papers of Quebec.

It will occur to you that at the last General Election I did not offer myself by advertisement; on the morning of that
election I was conducted /o the Hustings with cordiality and friendship, and was received -within the Hustings with equal
marks of esteem and approbation.

I did not obtrude myself on the public ; I %vas unanimously chosen by shew of Iiaads.

In my address of thanks for so flattering and distinguished a mark of your favour, I pledged myself '• 'o justify your
choice by a zealous and sedulous attention to the public ser-uice ;" and now. Gentlemen, I have the confidence to declare to you
that I have not been deficient In mv duty, that I have kept my promise, and performed my covenants with the pubhc ; that
a. your Representative. I have acted a disinterested and independent part, having nothing «lse in view than the welfare of
the country.

During the .hort «ssion, of th« Us. Legislature, I >he-.v.d a solicitous and persevering regard for the concerns of the Pro-
