 Toronto Church School

 ^•

 ALEXANDER STREET. TORONTO.

THE Toronto Church School has been established on the plan of
the English Public Schools for the purpose of giving, in o^^^nection
with all the usual branches of a sotuid literary education, =ycii, matic
daily instruction in religion and morals. After roll-call each morning
therefore the School is opened in the School Chapel with a short service
taken from the Book of Common Prayer ; then follows instruction in
the Bible or Church Catechism, after which the routine Class-work of
 the day is proceeded with.

 Discipline.

In the Class-room discipline is maintained by the Masters, not
only by the exertion of their authority in requiring an exact observance
of the ordinary School regulations, but also by inculcating in the minds
of the boys a reverence and scrupulous regard for those principles of
honor and honorable action which are the essential attributes of the
good citizen and the Christian gentleman.

During the intermissions such strict supervision is exercised over
the pupils, as effectually to prevent any improper language or conduct

THE TORONTO CIIUKCH SCHOOL.

 cTbmission.

Pupils will be admitted at any time during the term, hut entranc^e
may be most advantageously made at the beginning of Michaelmas and
Lent terms, when the classes are organized after the Semi-annual Pro-
motion Kxaminations, which take place at the close of the preceding
 terms.

Entrants are required to present a certificate of good moral charac-
ter from the Head Master of the School last attended.

 €xaminations an^ Hcports.

Besides the regular Promotion I'lxaminations at the end of Trinity
and Michaelmas terms, review examinations are held at intervals in the
course of each term, the results of which are embodied in the reports
of conduct, progress and standing which are sent to parents monthly.

 Course of instruction.

The School is divided into six Forms, which may, however, be
subdivided, as it is an aim ever held in view that no class shall be so
large that it becomes impossible for the Master to have personal cog-
nizance of the work of the individual pupil.

Pupils are prepared for the matriculation examinations of the
Universities, and the entrance examinations of the Law and Medical
Schools, the Royal Military College, &c.

The regular curriculum embraces an extended course in Classics,
Mathematics, French, Germun, Scripture History, and the usual English
subjects, including Literature and Composition, History and Geography
(Ancient and Modern), Natural Science. Drawing and Military Drill.
