THE VILLAGE OF WINTERBOUWNE-W.HITCHLIRCH.

THIS^ a Parish and- one-street village in the County ol
Dorset, in the South of En^lancl. It forms the fourth .
portion of a Rural Deanery, is five, miles from Bland-
ford, and is built on the River Winterbourne. ,

The Minister of this Parish from 1651-62 was the I^ev.
John Wesley, M. A., father of the Rev: Samuel Wesley,
Rector of Epworth, and grandfather of John and Charles
Wesley, founders of Methodism. ' ,

Samuel Wesley was born in this village in the Summ«'r
of 1662, just before his father was expelled from the living
in August of that year by the Act of Uniformity. His birth
is recorded in the Church Register and the date of his bap-
tism; There is a small Wesleyan Chapel in the village.
