Dear Sir, — The Committee originated by the Canadian Institute, which has the above undertaking in hand, having progressed so far with the preliminary work, by securing the concurrence of the Historical Societies and Universities of Ontario and Quebec, the promise of ample and suitable premises, in public buildings, and the probability of necessary railway facilities, now feels justi- fied in inviting the broad co-operation which is necessary to assure success. The Historical Exhibition is to be held during the summer of 1897, in the public buildings in Queen's Park : namely, the Parliament Buildings and Victoria and Toronto Universities. Ample space for the purpose having thus been placed at the disposal of the Committee, free of all charge, by the liberality of the Ontario Government and the University authorities, it re- mains to provide for the other attendant expenses. For a sketch of the plan and scope of the work which ought to be undertaken, and t'^i means of providing for it, we beg to refer you to the accompanying report. It is proposed to create a joint stock limited liability corporation with, in the first instance, two hundred charter members, subscribing for five shares of ten dollars each, payable in instal- ments during the four years 1895, 1896, 1897 ^"<^ '898, making an annual payment of $12.50. The original parchment charter will contain the names of the two hundred charter members. Subscribers will also have the right to receive entrance privileges and copies of publications to the amount of their subscriptions. Further subscriptions for shares, returnable in privileges and publications, will afterwards be invited from the public of Canada. The debenture powers of the Corporation will be utilized to such extent as may be found necessary and practicable, based upon the gate receipts, when the prospects of the enterprise have become more fully developed. It is proposed that municipal and government aid shall also be solicited. You are respectfully appealed to to become one of the original two hundred charter sub- scribers, and thus help to initiate the Canadian Historical Exhibition upon a substantial basis.
