 A PROCLAMATION, 
 
 WHEREAS I have been informed tHat a number of French- 
 men, principally from the Iflands cf St. Pierre and Mique- 
 lon, have, without any permiffion or licence for fo doing, efta- 
 blished th^|?3Jfclves on the Magdalen Iflandi in this Province, where 
 many of tEem have married and have faitMr« T I have, Aerefore, 
 thought fit, and do hereby, with the aC^ce and confent of His 
 Majefty's Executive Council, iflue this my Proclamation ttf warn 
 all fuch Frenchmen, or Aliens of whatever defcription they may. - 
 be, that they do demean themfelves in a peaceable and orderly 
 manner, fubmitting, in all things, to the lawfiil authority of thi 
 Magiftrates, and conforming, in all refpedts, to the Laws of thi^ 
 Province, while they are permitted to remam on the faid IflAids. 
 And, in cafe of any of them conducing themfelves otherwife mart 
 as here recommended, on due report being made to me thereof^ 
 meafures (hall be forthwith taken for apprehending and bringing fuch', f 
 perfons here, either to be dealt with according to Law, or to be treat-, 
 ed as Prifoners of War, as the cafe may require. {

 VU que j*ai etc informe qu'un grand nombre de Fran9ois, prin- 
 cipalement des Isles de St. Pierre et Miquelon, fe font etablis, 
 fans permiffion ou licence, dans Its Ifles de la Magdeleine, en cette 
 Province^ ou plufieurs d'eux fe font maries et ont des families ; j'ai 
 en confequence j -e,a propos, par et de Tavis et confentement du 
 Ccnfeil Executif de iSa Majefte, d'emaner, et, par ces prefentes, 
 emane ma prefente Proclamation, pour avertir tous tcls Fran9ois ou 
 Etrangers, de quelque defcription qu'ils puiflcnt etre, de fe corn- 
 porter paifiblement et dans I'ordre, fe foumettant en toutes chofes a 
 rautorite legale des Magiftrats, et fe conformant en tout aux Loix 
 de cette Province, tant qu'ils auront permiffion de rester dans les 
 dites Ifles. Et, au cas ou aucuns d*eux fe conduiroient autrement 
 qu*il n'eft ici recommande, fur rapport a moi fait, des mefures 
 feront incontinent prifcs pour faire arreter et amener tclles perfonnes 
 ici, pour etre traitees ou felon la L«i^ ou comme Prifonniers de 
 Guerre, fuivant que le cas Texigera.
