The race is not mine, but yours j the standard is yours, the cause yours and the glory or shame of success or defeat yours. You have only selected me to march at the head of your columns and bear your ban¬ ner, and it is as much your duty to stand by, encourage, support and defend your colors and color bearer, as it is his to carry it to the front and flaunt in the face of the enemy. The vote and the active agency of every man will be required—you know the strength, corruption and unscrupulousness of the ele-1 ent that opposes you, and you are called upon to overcome it, or again go without representation in the State Senate. Below you will observe the action of your convention, and the address of the commit¬ tee, and I respectfully appeal to you for a vigorous campaign, and a full vote on Mon¬ day, the 4th of March. Graves, Sect'y. I To the Democratic Voters of the 10th Sen¬ atorial District. Your Delegates from the counties of Dough- eaty, Lee and Worth, by previous appoint¬ ment assembled in this place to-day, and nom¬ inated Col Carey W. Styles, as a candidate for the Senate to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of Mr. F. 0. Welch The undersigned were appointed a commit¬ tee to announce the action of your conven^ tion, and to urge upon the people of the Dis¬ trict, the importance and necessity of a general attendance at the election on the 4th of March next. It would seem an act of supererogation to urge upon a people, that have been the vic¬ tims of misrule and misrepresentation so long', the necessity of an effort for self pres¬ ervation, We can scarcely think that there is a Demo¬ cratic voter in the entire district, who will be so listless, indifferent or unpatriotic as not to poll his vote on 4th of March next, against radicalism, and who will not feel it to be his duty to do all in his power to triumphantly elect the nominee of your convention. Col. Carey W- Styles is eminently fit for the position by birth, raising and education. He has been your unflinching advocate and standard bearer in many hard faught con¬ flicts in the past, and deserves at your hands a cheerful, cordial, and united support.— Le. every one come to the polls on the 4th of March next, and by securing his election have again, "as in days of yore," an able and patriotic Representative* Respectfully, Your Obd't Servants, John a. davis, c. p. he art we j. p. stevens, a. h. alfriend, w. a. harris.
