Appended hereto, you will find separate statements, numbered one, two, three, four, five, six, se¬ ven, eight and nine, showing the condition of the Principal Bank and each of the Branches on the same day. The statement marked No. 10, (which is also appended,) will show the amount of Exchange furnished by the Bank and Branches for the last two years, viz: from first of July, 1851, to first of July 1853. In conformity to the Act passed on the 9th of February, 1850, to amend the charter of the Bank, and for other purposes, the amount of profits for the last two years, has been paid into the State Treasury, with which the Treasurer is chargeable in the set¬ tlement of his accounts, viz: From 1st July, 1851, to 1st July, 1852, - - $199,629 98 From 1st July, 1852, to 1st July, 1853, - - 248,010 82 Total amount of profits for the two years, - 447,640 80 Reserved to meet former losses, - - - 52,822 26 Amount chargable to the Treasurer, - - $394,818 54 As required by the Act of the last session, of the day of February, 1852, the Branch at Athchs has been re-established, and it affords me pleasure to say that it has been prudently and safely managed by the present Board of Directors. The location is, beyond question, a good one, and I respectfully recommend its continuance; but owing to its former heavy losses, and a conse¬ quent reduction of its capital, large profits cannot be expected. With the same prudent management, however, it will soon be made useful to the public, and its profits greatly increased. Accompanying this report, you will please find the petition of Capitol Hill Fire Company, No. 4, of this city, addressed to the President and Directors of the Bank, asking for an appropriation to aid them in building an Engine House, near the Capitol. The Board of Directors have no power to make the appropriation asked for, and therefore beg leave to bring the subject to the notice of the General Assembly, and to recommend the several Fire Companies of the city, to your most favorable consideration. As the Bank pays no part of the Corporation Taxes, it would seem to be but reasonable that it should bear a fair proportion of the ex¬ penses of keeping up the Fire Companies. Any further information that may be desired by your honorable body, or any of its members, in relation to the Bank, its manage¬ ment or condition, will be most cheerfully given. All of which, is respectfully submitted, WM. LEDBETTER, Pres't. 10 (No. 2.) To the President and Directors of the Bank of Tennessee: Gentlemen—The undersigned, Committee on behalf of Capitol Hill Fire Company, No. 4, of the City of Nashville, respectfully request you to make a donation of funds to said Company for the purpose of aiding in the erection of an Engine House. We desire to erect a building which will probably cost $5,000. The Corporation of Nashville has, very generously, purchased us a lot of ground, fronting the West side of the State Capitol, and, also, a new and substantial engine. As the bui4ding will front the Capitol, it is desirable to make it a neat and genteel house—one which shall at once be an ornament to the city and the eligible lo¬ cation on which it is to be erected. We think your institution, whose property will be protected from the ravages of fire as well as other buildings, should make a lib¬ eral donation, for the reason that your Bank pays no city taxes, (an expense which all the other city Banks have to meet,) while you enjoy alike with them the advantages of our excellent Fire Department. And then, too, for the credit of the State, we wish a building in keeping with the location. The other Banks have liberally made us donations, and we hope you will do the same. Very respectfully yours. A. NELSON, T. N. HUNDLEY, Committee. September 1, 1853
