CHAPMAN NOTE ] N offering at auction this collection of prints, largely by modern artists, there is afforded a rare opportunity to all print col- lectors to enrich their portfolios. Fine prints of all kinds have become very scarce these last few years, none more so than Whistlers and Zorns, many examples of whose work are comprised in this collection. Among the old masters are choice prints by Rembrandt, Diirer, Rowlandson, Debucourt and Meryon; and among the modern masters, fine examples of the work of Sir Francis Seymour Haden, Frank Brangwyn, Hedley Fitton, Ernest Lumsden, Max Klinger, Alphonse Legros, Sir Frank Short, D. Y. Cameron, James McBey, Frank Duveneck and Felicien Rops. The.collection is made notable by the presence of several dry- points by Rodin in rare and fine impressions. Rodin etchings have become very scarce and are much sought for now that the great French sculptor is dead. The star prints of the sale, however, are the Zorns and Whustlers. Among the Zorn etchings are, for example, the exceedingly scarce Portrait of Besnard and ‘‘My Model and My Boat,”’ both issued in less than thirty-five impressions; and very fine proofs otf ‘‘Betty Nansen,’’ ‘‘Devant le Poele,’’ ‘‘Byst’’ and others of the more recent etchings. Among the Whistler lithographs are the rare ‘Ete: Duet,,7 ‘The Forge: Passage du Dragon,’’ ‘*Chelsea Rags’’ and ‘‘The Shoe- maker.’’ Among the etchings are ‘‘Long Lagoon’”’ and ‘‘ Fishing Boat’? from the Venice Sets; ‘‘Rotherhithe,’’ ‘‘Becquet,”’ ‘
