During many years of collecting Mr. Henry M. Johnston has had opportunities of gathering together a number of extremely fine paintings, and the present collection shows the great care and excellent judgment used in the purchase of almost every example. It is seldom that the public have offered them such choice specimens of so many fa- mous artists, insubjects and sizes which make the pictures extremely desirable. In almost every case it is stated where the paintings came from; quite a num- ber having been in well-known collections both here and abroad. Every picture is well worth having—a great many of them worthy of a place in the finest galleries. Mr. Johnston is the owner of every picture in the collection, and they are to be sold with- out reserve. There are seventy-four paintings by fifty-five different artists. No collection has been sold in a one- night’s sale, excepting Mr. Albert Spencer’s, which has embraced so many fine examples of the famous modern masters. SAM. P.
