Conditions of Sale,
L The highest Bidder to be the Buyer, and if any dispute arise between two or more
Bidders, the Lot so in dispute shall be immediately put up again and re-sold.
II. No Person to advance less than Is. — Above Five Pounds, 2s. fid. and so on in
proportion.
IJI.^he Purchasers to give in their names and Places of abode and to pay down 5$. in
the Pound, in part of payment of the Purchase Money, tj required, in default of
which, the Lot or Lots so purchased, to be immediately put up again and re-sold.
IV. The Lots to be taken away, with all Faults, at the Buyer’s Expense, within Four Days
from the Sale.
V. To prevent inaccuracy in delivery, and inconvenience in the settlement of the Pur-
chases, no one lot can on any account be removed during the time of Sale; and
the money must absolutely be paid on the delivery.
VI. Upon failure of complying with the above Conditions, the Money deposited in part of
payment shall be forfeited ; all Lots uncleared within the Time aforesaid shall be
re-sold by public or private Sale ; and the deficiencv (if any) attending such Re-
sale, shall be made good by the Defaulter at this Sale.

The angel, from the Revelations, standing on earth and sea ;
study on carton, of cabinet size
A lighter on the entrance to a lock, on the Thames, at Ted-
dington ; evening scene, with effect of fire light
A harbour with a ship of war furling sails, others at anchor,
and boats in motion in a fresh breeze. The buildings in a
sea-port town, and numerous vessels diminishing in faint
perspective, terminate the distance
A skirmish of cavalry in a hollow pass, between a wood and a
range of mountains ; spirited and well coloured
The river Arno, with a w^aterman in a wherry carrying a pas-
senger across ; beyond them is a barge entering the mouth
of a smaller navigable river. The view is terminated by a
range of hills seen through the effect of vapour and a sultry
sun.
The original design for the favourite picture of the snake in
the grass
A view of the Thames, at Teddington, looking down towards
Pope’s Villa, at Twickenham. Fishermen in a punt are
gliding down by a tongue of land, on which some sheep are
reposing, and shepherds are conversing in the shade. The
water reflects the objects on the bank with transparent and
glassy effect, the colouring is warm and glowing

Four infant angels in the clouds rejoicing on the occasion of the
nativity of our Saviour ; for which this beautiful group is evi-
dently a partial design ; a composition of great taste and spirit
Musidora preparing to undress for bathing, her lover looking
on from a grove of trees behind ; the well-known engraved
picture
A fresh breeze off a rocky coast, under which two smacks are
scudding, while a group of fishermen are in the act of launch-
ing their boat; painted with a very free pencil, and in fresh tone
An avalanche; a fine display of the imagination of the
painter, where, amid the crash of rocks and trees, and snow
and ice, thundering down in almost chaotic confusion, figures
are seen nearly overwhelmed, or flying in despair
Portrait of the artist, by himself
A monkey chained in a stable, and defending his pewter dish
of bread and milk from the attack of two dogs ; one of
which he has seized by the tail, while the other has slyly
crept towards the dish. The science displayed in the draw-
ing, the ingenuity of the composition, and the richness of
the colouring, are admirable

A grand romantic landscape, resembling the scenery of West-
moreland, with a water-mill sheltered by trees, in the
centre, where females are washing linen in the stream ;
beyond is seen a rich and picturesque vale, A female with
a child, upon a donkey led by her daughter, is descending
by a road from the mountains, on her way to market. The
group is beautifully coloured and finished
A female fortune-teller predicting the fortunes of a cottage
girl, who is resting upon her spinning wheel, and listening to
her in thoughtful attention
A landscape view on a coast where fish, recently caught,
have been landed, and donkies are waiting to be loaded with
them. A man, mounted on a white horse, followed by a

peasant with a landing-net and his spaniel, is jogging over a
rising ground above. The distant mountains are enveloped
in clouds, from which the rays of the sun are breaking out
with fine effect

painted with strong effect of light produced by a squally
sky
A girl at a spring; a beautiful though simple subject, treated
with great taste, both in drawing and colour
The lake and tower in Tabley Park, with woody scenery
beyond, and cattle watering or reposing on the bank.
Among these a Norman bull, and other favourite cattle are
conspicuous, and very finely finished, and painted with rich
effect. The evening tone of the sky is particularly sweet and
clear

of Sodom, and the fate of the wife of Lot, who has turned
round to view the tremendous catastrophe, in the distance.

figures bargaining for fish, and others unloading a vessel,
which is left dry upon the shingles, occupy the front ground.
In the distance the sun is richly gleaming through a sultry
morning vapour, with beautiful effect

The Rape of Europa.
Europa, on the bull, has launched with his female burthen
into the deep. A train of nymphs, swimming after her,
support her feet, and add to the security of her seat upon the
back of the animal ; Tritons precede them sounding their
conchs, and several young zephyrs are clustered round the
\eagle of Jupiter, which hovers over the group, and by over-
shadowing them with its wings, contributes to the effect of
the chiaro scuro. A splendid composition, full of movement,
and singularly rich in colour

bowered with trees, which, open to a pleasing landscape

A well-known and very favourite chef d’oeuvre of this
delightful painter, of rustic nature
