My Lords and Gentlemen, The unrivalled excellence of the institution established for the annual meeting of the Charity Children of this great Metropolis, which exhibits a spectacle that excites the wonder and admiration of every humane and beneficent individual, who has witnessed that display of British Charity, sufficiently proclaims the virtues of its supporters, whose memory will be venerated and revered till time shall level all distinctions. My humble attempts in conducting the music on that grand solemnity having met with your approba- tion, I thus publicly return my warmest acknowledgments. Impressed with a grateful sense of the distinguished honour conferred upon me, by your permission in dedicating to you this small collection of Sacred Music, calculated not only for the use of Charity Children, but the rising generation of both sexes, who delight in Sacred Music, a work which, I hope, whilst it will soothe the ear with its melody, will also tend to excite in the mind a spirit of Piety and Devotion. — Throughout the whole 1 have made it my study to select such compositions, as I hope and trust will be sanctioned by every friend to virtue and religion. I cannot conclude without returning my sincere thanks to the different Composers, who have contri- buted in so eminent a degree by their productions to the benefit and utility of this publication, and for whom I shall ever retain the highest respect and esteem. — I remain, My Lords and Gentlemen, Your most obedient humble Servant, Warwick-Square, Dec. 1, 1804.
