AlTj g"lory be to Thee, Almighty God, our heavenly Father, for that Thou, of Thy tender mercy, didst give Thine only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the Cross for our redemp- tion; Who made there (by His one oblation of Himself once offered) a full, perfect and sufli- cient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction, for the sins of the whole world ; and did institute, and in His holy Gospel command us to con- tinue, a perpetual memory of that His pre- cious death and sacrifice, until His comnig again : For in the night in which He was be- trayed. He took Bread ; and when He had given thanks He brake it, and gave it to His disciples, saying, "Take, eat, this is My Body, which is given for you : do this in rejMembrance of Me."" Likewise, after sup- per. He took the Cup : and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, "Drink ye all, of THIS, FOR THIS IS My BlOOD OF THE New Testament, which is shed for you, AND for many, for THE REMISSION OF SINS; DO THIS, AS Ol^T AS YE SHALL DRINK IT, IN RE MEMBRANCE OF Me."' Mary's H%M^,r*v:^ A COLLECTION OF Hymns, Songs and Carols FOR USE A1 The Holy Eucharist Children's Services Guild Meetings Mission Services WITH AN ALPHABETICAL LNDEX Full Index for Seasons axd Subjects BALTIMORE The Sisters of S. Mary and All Saints, 409 W. Biddle Street. Copyright, ism, BY W. C. Cl.APP. COMPILER'S PREFACE. This little book is the result of an attempt to meet the actual needs of two different raissoin works, and, with few exceptions, the hj^mns here included have stood the test of use. It has been the conviction of the compiler that Catholic and Evangelical are not contradictory terras, but that each includes the other. The present collection therefore embraces hymns subjective in character as well as those ex- pressing- the glorious objective realities of the Faith. But it should be remembered that hymns, like other poetical writings, rarely present all ides of the truth in any one composition. It is hoped, however, that each one in this book is capable of a right construction and presents a phase of the truth. The responsibility for the use of a hj^mn upon any particular occa- sion should rest, of course, with the officiant, and it is a matter for his careful considera- tion. The hymns are not arranged according to subject. It is thought that the indices will give all possible and necessary aid in selection. A pei'son, usinj*- a hymnal constantly, soon learns the numbers. No effort has been made to Include a com- plete selection of carols. The demand for a succession of new ones is quite general, and could hardly be met by any other than a peri- odical publication. The compiler ha"^ endeavored to avoid trans- gression of any copyright. He craves pardon if he has failed through ignorance in any case* He Avishes to express his gratitude to the au- thors who have kindly granted permission to use their compositions. Finally he would state that any profits aris- ing from the sale of this book will be used in the mission work of the Church. HYMNS A few more years shall roll, A few more seasons come, And we shall be with those that rest Asleep within the tomb ; Then, O my Loud, prepare ^ly soul for tliat great clay ; wash me in Thy precious Blood, And take my sins away. A few more suns shall set O'er these dark hills of time, And we shall be where suns are not, A far serener clime ; Then, O my Lord, prepare My soul for that blest day ; O wash me in Thy precious Blood, And take my sins away. A few more storms shall beat On this wild rocky shore, And we shall be where tempests cease, And surges swell no more : Then, O my Lord, prepare My soul for that calm day ; wash me in Thy precious Blood, And take my sins away. A few more struggles here, A few more partings o'er, A few more toils, a feAv more tears, And we shall weep no more : Then, O my Lord, prepare My soul for that bright day ; wash me in Thy precious Blood, And take my sins away.
