Pellet, the first secretary, which records the preliminaries of the founding of the Association and its activities in connection with the purchase of Mount Vernon. This is a record of the years 1854, 1855, 1856, 1857. No meetings of the Grand Council were held between 1858 and 1864, and none in 1869 and 1871. There were no minutes for the years 1858, 1867, 1870, and 1872, but reports were printed and these have been sub- stituted for minutes in the Index. Gifts which represent a group of people or individuals whose names are not mentioned, are credited in the Index to the Vice Regent through whom they were presented.
