BY-LAWS 
 
 HARTFORD COUNTY BRANCH 
 
 CONNECTICUT SOCIETY 
 
 SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION 
 
 PREAMBLE. 
 We, the subscribers, descendants of 
 Revolutionary soldiers and patriots, mem- 
 bers of the Connecticut Society of the 
 Sons of the American Revolution, for the 
 purpose of promoting in Hartford and 
 vicinity the objects of said society as set 
 forth in Article III of its Constitution, do 
 ordain and establish the following by-laws 
 for the government of this branch. 
 
 ARTICLE I. 
 
 NAME. 
 
 Section 1. This organization shall be 
 known as the Colonel Jeremiah Wads- 
 worth Branch, No. 7, Connecticut Society 
 of the Sons of the American Revolution. 
 
QUORUM. 
 
 Sec. 2. Ten members present shall con- 
 stitute a quorum for the transaction of 
 business. 
 
 ARTICLE II. 
 
 MEMBERSHIP. 
 
 Any member of the State Society resi- 
 dent in any town in Hartford County, 
 shall be eligible to membership in this 
 Branch. 
 
 ARTICLE III. 
 
 ANNUAL MEETING. 
 
 Section 1. The annual meeting for the 
 election of officers, and for the transac- 
 tion of any business properly coming be- 
 fore it, shall be held on the third Thurs- 
 day in October, the hour and place to be 
 designated by the Executive Board. 
 
 special MEETINGS. 
 
 Sec. 2. Special meetings shall be called 
 by the President when directed by the 
 Executive Board, or upon the written peti- 
 tion of ten members.

ARTICLE IV. 
 
 ADMISSION FEE. 
 
 Section 1 The admission fee for mem- 
 bership in this Branch shall be one dollar, 
 which shall cover dues to the next annual 
 meeting. 
 
 DUES. 
 
 Sec. 2. The regular annual dues shall 
 be one dollar, payable in advance. 
 
 ARREARS. 
 
 Sec. 3. ^Members three months or more 
 in arrears for dues may be dropped from 
 the roll by the Executive Board, and may 
 be reinstated in their membership by said 
 Executive Board upon the payment of 
 their indebtedness to the Branch. 
 
 ARTICLE V. 
 
 OFFICERS. 
 
 The officers of this Branch shall be a 
 President, a Vice-President, a Secretary, 
 a Treasurer, an Historian, and a Chaplain. 
 
 ARTICLE VI. 
 
 EXECUTIVE BOARD. 
 
 There shall be a Board, consisting of 
 three members, who shall be elected by

ballot, one for three years, one for two 
 years, and one for one year. Thereafter, 
 annually, one member shall be elected for 
 three years. These, with the President, 
 Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, His- 
 torian, and Chaplain, and the members of 
 this Branch belonging to the Board of 
 Managers of the State Society, shall con- 
 situte the Executive Board. Five mem- 
 bers shall constitute a quorum at any 
 meeting. 
 
 ARTICLE VII. 
 officers' duties. 
 Section 1. The duties of the officers 
 shall correspond with the duties of like 
 officers of the State Society. 
 
 executive board meetings. 
 Sec. 2. Meetings of the Executive 
 Board shall be held whenever called by the 
 President or Acting President. 
 
 POWERS OF executive BOARD. 
 
 Sec. 3. The Executive Board shall have 
 control of the administrative and financial 
 affairs of the Branch. They shall appoint 
 iin Auditor and a Necrologist. They shall

have the power to suspend or expel any 
 member of the Branch for sufficient cause, 
 by a vote of two-thirds of the Board 
 present at any regular or special meeting, 
 provided, that at least two weeks' notice 
 of such proposed action shall have been 
 given to such member by notice mailed to 
 him at his last known residence. A mem- 
 ber so suspended or expelled shall have the 
 right to appeal to a meeting of the Branch 
 from the action of the Executive Board. 
 
 ARTICLE VIII. 
 
 ELECTIONS. 
 
 All elections of officers shall be by ballot. 
 ARTICLE IX. 
 
 APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP 
 
 Applications for membership shall be 
 filed with the Secretary, accompanied by 
 the admission fee; and when approved by 
 the Executive Board, shall constitute the 
 applicant a member of this Branch. 
 
 ARTICLE X. 
 
 EXPENDITURE OF MONEY. 
 
 Propositions for the giving or acceptance 
 of invitations which may involve the ex- 
 penditure of money, shall only be acted

on when made in writing, by the Executive 
 Board, or by the members of the Branch; 
 and at least one week's notice shall be 
 given of such proposed action to the mem- 
 bers of the Branch. 
 
 ARTICLE XI. 
 
 STANDING COMMITTEE. 
 
 Within ten days after the annual meet- 
 ing the President shall appoint a commit- 
 tee of five members of the Branch, to be 
 known as the Standing Committee. It 
 shall be the duty of this committee, in 
 connection with the Executive Board, to 
 consider the suitable observance of Revo- 
 lutionary anniversaries, to ascertain the 
 historic localities in this vicinity and the 
 feasibility of marking the same, and to 
 solicit applications for membership in the 
 State Society, giving applicants when pos- 
 sible the assistance necessary to secure 
 their admission. 
 
 ARTICLE Xn. 
 
 THE SEAL. 
 
 The Seal of this Branch shall contain 
 the portrait of Colonel Jeremiah Wads- 
 worth.

ARTICLE XIII. 
 
 AMENDMENTS TO BY-LAWS. 
 
 Section 1. These By-Laws shall not be 
 altered, amended or repealed unless such 
 alterations or amendments shall have been 
 proposed in writing at a previous meet- 
 ing of the Executive Board, and entered 
 on the records, with the name of the mem- 
 ber proposing the change, and also adopted 
 by a majority of the members present at 
 a regular meeting of the Branch or at 
 a special meeting called for that purpose. 
 
 BY-LAWS SUSPENDED. 
 
 Sec. 2. Any By-Law may be suspended 
 for :i single meeting only by the unanimous 
 vote of the members present.

 OBJECTS. 
 
 The objects of this Society are to per- 
 petuate the memory and the spirit of 
 the men who achieved American Inde- 
 pendence; to encourage historical research 
 in relation to the American Revolution; 
 to preserve documents, relics, and records 
 of the individual services of revolutionary 
 soldiers and patriots; to mark, by appro- 
 priate monuments, historic places within 
 this State; to promote the celebration of 
 patriotic anniversaries, and by these and 
 similar means to impress upon the present 
 and future generations the patriotic spirit

which actuated our ancestors and estab- 
 lished the Republic of the United States 
 of America, 
 
 ARTICLE IV. 
 
 MEMBERSHIP, 
 
 Section 1. Any man not less than 
 twenty-one years of age, who is descended 
 from an ancestor who with unfailing 
 loyalty rendered material aid to the cause 
 of American Independence in the War of 
 the American Revolution, either as a mili- 
 tary or naval officer, sailor, soldier, or 
 official in the service of any of the origi- 
 nal thirteen Colonies or States, or Ver- 
 mont, or as a recognized patriot whose 
 services are of public record, shall be 
 eligible for membership in this Society, if 
 found worthy. 
 
 HONORARY MEMBERS. 
 
 Sec. 2. Women may be admitted as 
 honorary members, subject to the condi- 
 tions as to age and descent established in 
 the case of active members. 
 
 APPLICATIONS. 
 
 Sec. 3. All applications for membership

 upon blank forms furnished by the Society. 
 They shall be signed with the full name 
 and address of the applicant and shall also
