He came to Amesbur\' in 1832, when twenty-two 3'ears of age, and for nearly fiftv-four years labored diligentb,- to found a home and provide for the wants of his family. He purchased a large tract of land upon Powow Hill, and proved b^' his knowledge of farming that hills as well as valleys could be made to yield abundanth'. He was attached to his miniature mountain- home, and believed that in time it would attract the attention of builders. In his old age this expectation was realized. His death was a sudden stroke to his wife and son and daughters, all but one of whom he had lived to see well settled in pleasant homes of their own upon his loved highland. In the town where he had laljored to complete his allotted task in life, and where he was well known and highlj' respected, it was a sad occurrence.
