SETTLE ^SF PU BLI SHED BY JOHN L. S ETTLE [ NEW YORK ST. LOUIS T_ Jo INTRODUCTION This little book is sent forth with the hope that it may be an inspiration to patriotism to the youth of our Country. All the men who have been able to attain to the Presi dency of the United States have been great men; men who have had much to do with the shaping- of the affairs of this great nation of ours. It would be time well spent for any schoolboy or girl to get some standard biography of any or all of these men, and read how they have worked, struggled and fought for what they thought was for the good oi their Country. With this little book you can make yourself familiar with the faces of our Presidents, when and where they w r ere born, where and how they were educated, the time when they were President, some other principal event in their lives, how long they lived, and when they died. These pictures are made from the best portraits or paintings obtainable, and most of them were made from the originals that were made at the time they occupied the Presidential office. That of Thomas Jefferson is an exception, and was made from a painting made shortly after he wrote the Declaration of Inde- pendence, something like twenty-five years before he became President. So, in this little book you have the portraits of the Presidents of the United States of America. April, 1913. John L. Settle.
