Bnterod according to Act of Congress, in the year 1862, by HORACE H. HOUGHTON, In the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the United States, in atkI for the Northern District of Illinois. 2. r- <c r 1 < PREFACE. The highest earthly creation is Man. Man's highest aspiration of attainment is Justice, for that i» the foundation of Almighty Power,- and Justice in created things is the highest Mercy. By Justice, we mean that combination of all the forms of power pertaining to any thing, so propor- tioned to each other as to make the thing complete in itself, and capable of the highest use for which it was created. For instance, a Human Being, to meet the above requirement, must be so constructed that his aspirations will be true, his physical proportions exact, so that hi? actions may subserve the highest Use to himself and. others, and that his whole being may move in har- mony with the Divine Mind. Truth begets Truth by contact, and is an overmatch for error when the conditions of the former are so well understood as to permit the whole to assume the cha- racter of living Faith in the Human Mind. If the Theory contained in these pages be true, as the author believes it to be, it will in due time be universally acknowledged as such, and the one effect of its know- ledge will be, to press every thing in Man to a confor- formity with it, and bring peace on earth to him. on the Principle of Universal Justice. PHILOSOPHY. All things in being, whether pertaining to Mind or Matter, in every Form and Force, Quality and Quantity, may be accurately de- fined by means of Twenty-eight distinct Ideas. These Twenty-eight Ideas are divided into two parts of Fourteen Expressions each, the First Fourteen of which may be known by name as follows: GOD AS FATHER, GOD AS SON, GOD AS SPIRIT, ONE GOD. PRINCIPLE, LAW, RESULT, CAUSE, EFFECT, USE, NERVOUS TEMPERAMENT. BILIOUS TEMPERAMENT, SANGUINE TEMPERAMENT, LYMPHATIC TEMPERAMENT, By means of the Powers expressed by these Ideas, all living organizations are designed — all forms of things are arranged in thought. all spiritual forces controlled, all moral actions measured, and defined by the exact Rules of MORAL JUSTICE, in "all the Universe of being. In the above, in the Creation of anything of Life, the Mind of Deity gives Action; He uses the Temperaments to give general Character, and the six middle Terms to give particular Form. So as in the solution of any Mathematical problem, the Mind of Man uses the four Ground Rules of Arithmetic to give the Cha- racter of Truth to the solution, and by means of them using the Nine Digits and the Cypher to give it exact and essential Form. In the above it will be noticed that there are Three Divisions of Power — Two of Four Terms each and one of Six Terms. It may be under, derstood, that in the explanation of this The- ory, wherever a Family of Four Terms occur, the last or Fourth Term is the Power that binds the other Three together, and makes them in Use, One. And where the Family consists of Six Terms, the several Terms relate to each other as Principle, Law, Result, Cause, Effect and Use relate to each other. And the 7- First Three can combine with the Second Three as Male and Female, and a Seventh Term may be the Product, the Seventh Term representing the whole Six, from which it originates. The Second Division of these Twenty-Eight Ideas also consists of Fourteen in number^ which are named and may be signified as fol- lows, to wit: NOTHING, ONE, TWO, THREE. FOUR, FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT, NINE, OIVISION, MULTIPLICATION, SUBSTRACTION, ADDITION. By the First Ten Ideas, wrought and die- posed in the Mind by the Four others called DIVISION, MULTIPLICATION, SUBSTRACTION, ADDITION. all Material Things can be weighed and measured, and all the forms and motions per- taining to each defined with the most perfect 8. exactness, from the sun in the Universe to tht smallest mote that floats in the atmosphere of space. By them Mind can calculate the di- ameter of the spider's web, or the distance to the remotest planet that circles the heavens. By means of these Second Fourteen Ideas we attain a definite knowledge of MATHE- MATICAL JUSTICE, as in the First Four- teen Moral Justice is defined "with complete exactness in the Divine Mind. The Third great form of Power is MAN. He is constructed by and by means of the First Fourteen Ideas that define Moral Justice, working with the Second Fourteen, by which Material things are weighed, measured and adjusted so that they are organized to become the Habitation of Human Life. Man holds the highest connecting link between Mind and Matter, and partakes both of the Immortal and the Mortal. As the purposed Use of his exis- tence is perfect, and as the powers of Mind that work are Morally Just, and as that Mind works by and with exact and Just Mathematical Law in the organization of Matter for the Habita- tion of Human Life, the thing formed should be Just and perfect also. 0- The number of Ideas that constitute the Theory of Man are Twenty -eight, correspond- ing in number with those that form and de- fine Moral and Mathematical Justice. These Ideas are different expressions of power, and consist of Four Families of Six Terms each, from each Family of which is born a Seventh term, in which Seventh term each Family is represented, and each term of each Family. In each of the Four Families, the first three Terms relate to the Second Three, in the Order of Creative Power, as Male and Female, and a combination of the Six produce the Seventh, or Representative Term, thus : ACTION, l Co ^ ned ilN^RT^Aproduco 1 H ™| N FOBM, j " Vlth (TIME, J I LIFE. And so of all the Families and their several representatives. The following are the names of each mem- ber or term of these Four Families of Six, and also of the Seventh, which proceeds from and is the Representative of each Family, in the respective order of each member : io. First Family : MIND. ACTION. FORM. MATTER. INERTIA. TIME. Representative, LIFE. Second Family : SPIRIT. SPECIES. SENSES. PASSIONS. PHYSICAL MAN. MORAL MAN. Representative, CONSCIENCE. Third Family: RESPIRATORY SYSTEM. ALIMENTARY SYSTEM. SYSTEM OF THE BONES. MENTAL SYSTEM. NERVOUS SYSTEM. MUSCULAR SYSTEM. Representative, PHYSICAL STRENGTH. Fourth Family : INSTINCT. APPETITE. REASON. SYMPATHY. WILL. JUDGMENT, Representative, FAITH, 11- The Four Representative Powers of each Family above are consequently known as named as follows : LIFE, CONSCIENCE, PHYSICAL STRENGTH, FAITH. The Use of the last or Fourth Term, Faith is to bind the forces of the other Three together in every Purpose and Action, and thus make them in Effect, One. It is the sum of the whole. In these Four Terms, so combining in har- mony of action, CONSISTS THE GOVERN- MENT OF THE INDIVIDUAL MAN. So acting and operating upon and with each other, as One, they can become the receptacle of both MORAL and MATHEMATICAL JUSTICE, from which must flow PERSON- AL JUSTICE. By means of these Second Twenty-eight Ideas that constitute Man, all the general hab- its, peculiarities, beliefs, moral actions and physical excellencies or defects, or whatever pertains to Man, Individually or Nationally, may be accurately defined in Reason to the Human Consciousness and Faith; and as the 12- Cause of the Good is pointed out, so the Hu- man Mind can clearly see and comprehend the Kerned y for the Evil. NATIONAL JUSTICE is formed by a combination of the following Powers, which are the symbols of the Powers that form Indi- vidual Justice, as above. They form the National Government, as those Powers form Individual Government, viz : EXECUTIVE POWER, LEGISLATIVE POWER, JUDICIAL POWER, POPULAR POWER. The- Action of these Powers in Harmony of Purpose, the First Three bound together and thus sustained by the Popular Faith— -as the Individual Faith binds together in one the Life, the Conscience and Physical Strength — constitutes NATIONAL JUSTICE. In our Government, these Four Forms of Power are each and all represented by — THE PRESIDENT, THE CONGRESS, THE SUPREME COURT, and THE PEOPLE, Who, it will be seen, represent in the Nation what — 13. THE LIFE, THE CONSCIENCE, THE PHYSICAL STKENGTH, and THE FAITH, Represent in the Individual Man. We also get the Four Essential Forms of JUSTICE, to wit: MORAL justice, MATHEMATICAL JUSTICE, PERSONAL JUSTICE, NATIONAL JUSTICE, These Four Forms of Justice are the "Image of God" in Maw, and they were all perfect in him in his creation at the beginning of his existence. The thing to be attained, is to Res- tore this likeness of character between God and Man. It will be borne constantly in the Mind, that in the following, the Fourth Term, ONE GOD, is the uniting or binding force of the other Three, and makes perfect harmony and justness of action in the Supreme Mind : GOD THE FATHER, GOD THE SON, GOD THE SPIRIT, ONE GOD, In a like manner, the Fourth Term of Jus- tice— NATIONAL JUSTICE— is the uniting or binding force of the other Three. 14=. The Powers of ONE GOD and NATIONAL JUSTICE, and all that they encompass or bind together, relate to each other as a Principle to a Use, andf in the bringing them together in the Faith of a perfect Science, consists all Human Reform, Excellence and Progress. In PRINCIPLE Man receives Power from God, and in USE, Man returns it to Him again. By means of this System the People of the United States can attain to a perfect and per- petual Nationality. 029 708 069 6
