IRE, man’s friend when under control but his
| enemy when uncontrolled, continues to take its
ºzº toll in the loss of home, loss of employment, and
&\lkº) loss of life. This increasing loss can in a large
measure be prevented by the exercise of ordinary care.
Realizing this and also that the correction for the waste by
fire lies in sound education, the General Assembly has
required that a day be set aside in order that a specific
opportunity for the consideration of this problem may be
had. Therefore, in compliance with the Statutes, I desig-
nate Thursday, October 9th, next, as

and I earnestly recommend that thoughtful attention be
given on that day in our schools, our places of employ-
ment, our homes, and through the press to the study and
teaching of fire prevention.

September, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and thirty and of the independ-
ence of the United States the one hundred and fifty-fifth.
